Dr. Kapner provided me with excellent care for years, including taking care of me with my cataracts. My case was difficult due to previous lasik surgery and having an astigmatism and he was able to correct my vision to where I no longer need any glasses after many, many years of contacts and glasses.
Do not see Dr. Kapner for cataract surgery!!!! Our experience was so poor I had to write this review to inform others. We went to Dr. Kapner based on his reviews knowing my mom had dense cataracts in both eyes and was in need of cataract surgery. After the standard eye exam Dr. Kapner scheduled her for pre-op. We reviewed all of my moms details during the eye exam and we talked about her short term memory loss and dry eyes. Dr. Kapner said he felt we needed to do the surgery now while my mom only has beginning stages of short term memory loss from dementia because as that disease progresses it can eliminate the option for surgery & she would go blind. He told me it’s good you came in now and this is her window to have the surgery. Our next visit 2 weeks later was the pre-op and at this point we have waited 6 months due to Covid and Dr. Kapner was noticeably agitated when we sat down! His entire demeanor was much different than the last time we met with him. He was absolutely rude to us from the moment we sat down and while he was measuring my moms eye for the surgery, his machine rebooted and he said “your eye shape is so odd the machine can’t even calculate the algorithm & shut down!” I couldn’t even believe he was taking out his frustrations on his patient, my mom in the few minutes we sat down. After he measured her eye he said she has extreme dry eye in the left eye and with her memory loss I don’t have time to do her surgery. I do 7-8 surgeries in a row on Wednesday’s and if she ends up needing more than 20 minutes and a general anesthesia then she needs to see someone else! I asked him why he didn’t say something last time when he told us he could do it. He did not have a good answer for me. Clearly he is was not coping with his stress well and taking it out on us. I don’t want any doctor like that doing surgery on my mom!!!We left and that same day I found Morris Eye Group on the internet and Dr.Zenzen did the surgery. They fast tracked my mom after hearing about our experience. They are warm, knowledgeable, patient and treat you like family. Their office is clean, they are extremely efficient and I’m so glad things turned out the way they did and Dr.Kapner’s inability to maintain a calm, kind and rational demeanor was exposed before he operated on my mom. Dr. Kapner was nothing like the positive reviews we read and good luck if he does your eye surgery...I just hope he’s not having a bad day.
I couldn’t express my experience any better than the previous review by Kathleen San Juan and her mother the patient. Dr Kapner met with me for Preop 10/8/20 after 4 previous appointments beginning 1/28/20 when he told me Medicare didn’t pay enough to make it worth his time for complications such as mine but he would do my surgery. Then came COVID-19 and 2 more appointments each time although he was a frustrated agitated man running out of coping skills he would say “I’m going to take your case last - you’ll be last of my day for more time “. At 10/8/20 he was rude and very anxiety ridden but scheduled my Cataract surgery for 10/21/20 then took me to the room next door and announced the surgery was off he would refer me to UCSD he couldn’t do my surgery for what Medicare paid and the time involved. Dr Kapner walked out of the room and sent in Kristen Murphy the Director of Office Operations who would schedule appointments for me at UCSD and call me with dates and details. Three business days later and no communication whatsoever.
Dr. Kapner is extremely knowledgeable and caring. He recently performed my cataract surgery and now I am free from glasses and contacts after decades of needing them. Dr. Kapner gives such personalized attention to each of his patients and I am so grateful for him and his kind staff for improving my vision and my way of life!
I am sure he’s not only a very kind person but he’s extremely talented and capable. I had this chance of taking my father there, and all I saw was sheer compassion and help from him and his entire team !!!
Dr. Kapner and his staff have been caring for my eyes since 2011. Dr. K & staff are great about explaining various conditions including dry eye and high ocular pressures and finding treatments that fit each patient. He was sensitive to the problems I was having with using eye drops and successfully got me completely off of drops after a successful SLT procedure. I recommend Dr. Kapner and his fabulous staff as a friendly, top-notch team of professionals who really care about your eyes.
Dr. Kapner performed my cataract surgery five years ago and I'm extremely pleased with the results. He listens to his patients concerns, answers questions and has an excellent staff that supports him. His explanations are clear on concise. Never did I feel rushed. He is he absolute BEST opthalmologist in San Diego.
