What an amazing doctor! Very personable, caring, funny, with solid medical knowledge. Goes the extra mile. If you have to go to the emergency room, go to Shasta Regional and be lucky enough to get Dr. Pena.
Came in with right back pain for the 2nd day in a row. It was unbearable, I was crying. I had a stone from the previous night ER trip but since it was too small, he would not admit me. Well guess what, I suffered another week and had to come back, be admitted because I had fluid backup, a UTI and the kidney stone was stuck. Thank god for the MD who admitted me. I had to have surgery for it to be removed and a stent placed. This could have been done earlier if he admitted me like I asked. The admitting physician was upset that I had to wait for my 3rd visit to be taken seriously.
Had an emergency from the coast and no specialist in our area. Dr. Pena went above and beyond to connect us with a surgeon to get us in before giving up and heading back to the coast. Forever grateful and such amazing patient care ??
My son was taken to the SRMC ER because he could not keep down food or liquids. Dr Pena was adamant that his diagnosis was the flu, despite being told by 3 separate people that my son had sores on the back of his throat that were consistent with Tonsillitis; he didn't even bother to check my son's throat. We ended up in the ER a total of 3 times based on his misdiagnosis. My son had tonsillitis, not the flu and he could have easily seen that if he had checked his throat.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
