Dr Carlson and his staff were awesome. I was very pleased with their patient protocol and treatment. They were on point. I was in & out in a reasonable amount of time as a first time patient. They work well with the VA system. Again, thank you. You guys get a big shout out.

After being diagnosed with a retinal tear I was referred to Retinal Consultants of Southern California and was able to go in and get it repaired the same day! My ongoing follow up care with Dr. Carlson and the entire office staff has been excellent. Every step of the way from ease of making an appointment, thoroughness of exams and Dr. Carlson's manner in explaining his findings (and easing my nerves) has been top notch. I highly recommend this practice and Dr. Carlson.

I have been seeing Dr. John Carlson for eye injections about every 6 to 8 weeks for about a year. I came to this specialist after five years with another eye doctor. When I came to Dr. Carlson I had been experiencing stressful and painful injections with this other doctor. I finally switched because I could not take the lack of compassion that I was experiencing any longer. This new experience has been like night and day. Dr. Carlson is very calming, gentle and caring. He explains everything he is doing in a very compassionate, relatable way. Since I have been going to Dr. Carlson, I have not had any painful or scary experiences. Furthermore, he is involved in up-to-date studies while teaching at a nearby world-renowned university. I can't say enough good things about this wonderful doctor. In addition, his staff is always organized, polite and helpful. I am happy to recommend this office to anyone.

It is my great pleasure to recommend John P. Carlson, MD of Retina Consultants of Southern California. Put very simply, Dr. Carlson saved my vision. I had cataract surgery on both eyes the previous summer, and for the first time in my 73 year old life I had perfect vision! Then suddenly, my left eye gradually filled with protein deposits and floaters, my perfect vision vanished. I called optometrists and ophthalmologists to ask about fixing the problem and none of them were encouraging. But then I found Dr. Carlson of Retina Consultants of Southern California. I explained my problem to them and his staff made an appointment for me within a couple days, an extraordinarily short time! (Beaver Medical couldn't give me an appointment any sooner than 2 months away!) By the way, Dr. Carlson's staff are the most dedicated and supportive professionals in any office I've been to. When Dr. Carlson examined my eye, he explained that a complex surgery called a "Vitrectomy" could remove the deposits and floaters from the interior of my eye. He cautioned me that it was a major surgical undertaking and there was no guarantee of a successful outcome. But he also said I was a favorable candidate for the surgery. Dr. Carlson performed the surgery earlier this year and the results are just amazing! The floaters and deposits are gone, and my vision has been restored. I can enjoy movies and I can drive at night, both of which were previously impossible. I have to give Dr. Carlson and his staff the highest recommendation possible. If you are suffering from troubling vision problems, I highly recommend you contact Dr. Carlson.

Dr. John P Carlson, MD takes excellent care of my eye post op. I had a complex retina detachment and surgery to fix it in Michigan then moved to California a couple months later where he now treats me. He is very professional and cares about his patients. He respects my need to know about my eye and takes the time to answer the questions I have by tailoring his explanations to my level of understanding. He is great at attempting less invasive methods first seeking to improve your conditions. He found a medicine my swelling responded well to and was able to significantly reduce my swelling almost to the point where there was none. I definitely recommend him!

I am a retired physician. I had cataract surgery November 2021 in Illinois with my own long time opthamologist. On my final post op visit I was told I was at risk for a retinal tear. I then traveled to our winter home in La Quinta, CA. I became concerned I was experiencing early signs of the retinal tear which could compromise my vision longterm. I was referred to DR Carlson from a local opthamologist. The office staff member, Paula, was very understanding of my situation and scheduled me the next morning. I underwent a comprehensive evaluation starting with the technologists and DR Carlson himself. Dr Carlson was excellent. He took much time to examine my eyes, explain and educate me about retinal issues. In addition, he performed an imaging test of the vasculature around the macula and determined I had early macular degeneration. He recommended I begin AREDS 2 supplements and monitor my vision with the Amsler Grid. I traveled over an hour to see him. Highly recommend him.

I have been seeing Dr Carlson for the last few years as a referral from my optometrist, Dr. Doug Soderblom. I had a retina issue that needed evaluation. He has been very thorough in his care, testing, and explanations. He has a gentle demeanor and is very kind and patient to listen and answer my questions. When he learned I was moving out of state in five months, he wanted to see me again to be sure that everything was unchanged. He also told me how to find a competent retinal specialist in my new location. He is a very skilled physician, and I would highly recommend him.

Dr. Carlson and his staff at the Retina Consultants office in Redlands provided amazing professional care for me from the first phone call and during each visit. Dr. Carlson's demeanor was calm and patient even under the emergency treatment for my detached retina. He explained each step of the treatment and made sure I was comfortable during the procedure.
