List of Dena Amr, Md's Reviews
I am leaving a review based on my nightmare experience with hernia surgeries in hopes that someone else can avoid the chronic pain I have been suffering for 14 months. I think Dr. Amr is a great doctor but my surgery was not a success for me in having chronic stomach pain, which is now much worse in my groin as well as back and hip. I also have two seromas that are not going away from the surgery that is more than likely going to require another surgery per my gynocologist. Dr. Amr is very good in having tests to rule out all other possibilities but it obvious this pain that started three weeks after my surgery is from the mesh and/or tacks placed in my body. Doctors have no problem putting mesh in but they don't want to remove it when things go bad. They keep prescribing different pain meds with bad side effects and not good for your health long term. Bandaids. I have a gallon zip lock bag with all the meds I have been prescribed over the last 14 months for pain. It has been a nightmare as a very active person that use to lift weights, hike, play pickleball and attend social events that now cannot plan or do much of anything because I always have a stomach ache radiating to groin, hip and back. I have done pain management, PT, acupuncture, yoga....anything and everything to help and this chronic pain that is getting worse. Today I wanted to take a walk on the beach for my birthday and was in so much pain I barely made it back to my car and home to take more pain meds. Another surgeon referred me to UCI and a doctor not in my network so has been over two months with appeals and now trying to get an appointment for help and mesh removal. Something is very wrong. Please do you research before you agree to any mesh in your body. It has ruined people's lifes. I have had two surgeries from Dr. Amr because I had a third hernia that was not discovered until I went to ER and had a scan. I have been to ER three times in the last year for pain and have learned too that all they want to do is give pain meds and send you back to the same surgeon who does not know why you are having pain. My second surgery, I was told mesh would not be needed and then she put mesh in again. Not happy about that. I was told there were adhesions to my colon from the first surgery that were removed but something is VERY wrong and getting worse. I like Dr. Amr very much but the pain I have suffered, the depression and anxiety and not having my life back after surgery had been horrible for me. Do your research on having mesh, tacks, etc. put into your body and if possible have a hernia specialist do your surgery and ask about different options and repair WITHOUT mesh.
The Doctor Tam h. Lee is the best!! He is compasionate, caring, explained what needed to be done and how long it would take. Very friendly! CANNOT say the same for his staff (Tania and Kim), rude, condecending, never call you and, at least to us, lied about them not allowed to reach the Doctor to ask questions.l, the doctor had said patient needed surgery asap (and said within 2 weeks to schedule) staff said, no, that wss wrong and would minimum be 3 weeks, maybe. Take for ever to schedule your appts, had to call out insurance and even they got upset at how they work. Insurance finally got them to schedule the surgery, but disability paperwork was not done or return to work clearance, I delivered the paperwork to office same day as surgery, and next day they said it would take a month to get it back from the doctor, They offered a refund to us and the insurance agent, and then lied to us saying that wasnt what they said. GREATEST Doctor, too bad his staff ruins it.
Was my 1st ever surgery. Went in for Inguinal hernia repair. Doctor Amr and her team made me feel at ease from the entire process. Everything from the 1st visit, day of surgery and post-op follow up. She made me comfortable with it all and I didn't even need pain meds after for the recovery. I healed well and just wanted to make sure her and her team know that they were great and I wouldn't mind going through her for any possible future surgeries if I ever have any. Anyone that isn't sure and this is their 1st time, please go see her and her team. My surgery was on 11/6/23 and have been back to working out quickly. I had Nurse Garcia M and April M listed on the chart and they were beyond great. Her anesthesiologist was the best. I didn't feel drowsy and no pain after I got home from surgery. Please give them all raises and their flowers. Dena and her team are the best. I was terrified being it was my 1st ever surgery but they made it so pleasant from begin to end.
Dr Tam Le is an excellent surgeon at memorialcare. He works all day until midnight often doing surgeries. If he isn't always available for his office appointments, this is why. He is an experienced senior Doctor and I was told that he is brought in for complex surgeries. If you go to him, you'll be in good hands. He is a good human and saved me. I will always be grateful to him and am always so thankful to have him at my nearest hospital.
Dr. Amr is the best I had an inguinal hernia causing lots of pain. My primary Dr. referred me to Dr. Amr and I was so fortunate to have her as my surgeon. She was very generous with her time when she initially met my wife and I to examine me and schedule the surgery, and she went above and beyond when a scheduling complication arose, to make sure the surgery would happen as planned. On the day of surgery, Dr. Amr met with my wife and I, pre-op, and took her time to make us feel absolutely comfortable, explaining the entire process and post-op expectations. We truly appreciated her bedside manner and professionalism. She is an expert on the da Vinci and the surgery was a complete success. Minimally invasive and a quick recovery. If one must go through a hernia surgery, Dr. Amr is the best there is for the job.
Dr Amr is fabulous. However, the office is one of the poorest ran facilities I've experienced. Unfortunately, this is the first contact and representation for the Doctor. Guarantee this gentelman/receptionist is costing this doctor referrals and repeat patients.
Dr. Amr is great. Extremely friendly and helpful. My surgery was a success and the entire experience was very smooth. Even though I got off on the wrong foot with Tanya in her office, she went the extra mile in the end to make sure I was able to have my surgery as scheduled after I had a change in insurance very late in the process. I am very grateful for the extra effort everyone gave to take care of me. Thank you, Tanya, Dr. Amr and to the entire team. 🙂
Dr. Le is a very nice and good surgeon. However, I never saw him at the hospital and he was too busy covering for another surgeon to reply to the nurses. Had emergency gall bladder surgery and finally after 4 days in hospital was discharged home with a drain. Calling his office staff trying to book an appointment to get follow up care and the removal of the drain was a NIGHTMARE! First, the male assistant refused to book me because they didn't take my insurance. Said you are a cash patient and it was a minimum of $150.00. I am very familiar with how global days work in conjunction with billing for an emergency surgery CPT coding. It took multiple phone calls, my insurance was involved, authorizations were obtained. My primary Dr.called him directly. And still his office staff refused to schedule me! It took a week and 3 days to finally get this painful, not needed drain removed. I had to text him and say this must be removed, you put it in, your staff refuses to schedule me and no other surgeon will remove it. I also have urgent authorization from my insurance company and it was covered by the 90 global days for follow up. After text, the office manager called me and scheduled appt. They even had the nerve to charge me my copay even though it is considered part of the follow u care.
A super talented surgeon with a great personality and bedside manner. He really cares for his patients but the office overbooks his appointments.
I hate to leave a 1-star review, but the staff at Dr.Amr's office is terrible! Dr. Amr was a wonderful surgeon for me. It's unfortunate that she does not take calls and requires an appointment for everything. There is no way to leave a message for her. I asked to s/w the office manager over 5 times. Her staff continues to submit the wrong MRI request. My entire arm is numb after surgery, and the staff continues to submit a PA for my hand?!?! I am now seeing another specialist who is able to answer my questions and order to correct MRI. I hope that Dr.Amr is able to get better staff that puts the needs of the patient's 1st.
