Frustrating Experience As a young person struggling with a condition that causes me a lot of pain, I've had to deal with a number of doctors not taking me seriously despite the imaging results I've received. I had my first visit with Dr. Tom and he at first seemed very aimiable and seemed to be listening, but his advice and responses did not appear to match what I was telling him. He invalidated me and my condition and the amount of pain I experience, and refused to fill my prescription that my previous doctor has been prescribing me for a long time now. He would not stop suggesting physical therapy to build strength (which I have done several times with no improvement, and I am already incredibly strong and in great shape despite my condition). I felt like he was not listening to me at all and left my appointment feeling incredibly frustrated and invalidated.

My visit with Dr. Tom was disappointing after seeing him as a new patient (29 F) he reviewed my labs and gave me a lecture on the importance of diet and exercise. After telling him that I see a personal trainer twice a week, take Pilates class, ride a peloton, and am training for a 10k (running 3-5 miles 3 times a week) while keeping a food journal. To note I have had this exercise regimen since 2018. Prior to seeing him I had been treated by an urgent care a month prior to chronic bronchitis and had gained 20+ lbs and urgent care told me my lab work had shown a lot of irregularities. Despite this Dr. Tom told me to “put the fork down” had his staff print me an article on a healthy diet and told me to walk 30 minutes a day… a week later I had a routine appointment with my OB, she reviewed the same labs ordered additional labs and diagnosed me with Lupus and ordered an ultrasound for my liver. Turns out it’s enlarged. Extremely disappointing that this was all missed by Dr. Tom. To top it off, his office sent me a statement that was higher than the OB, ultrasound, and urgent care bill combined. I would not recommend Dr. Tom.

Dr. Tom is thoughtful, caring, and knowledgeable. I rarely feel calm and relaxed in a doctor’s office, but he makes me feel more at ease during my visits. I selected my next insurance for 2024 based on him being my PCP.
