List of Thomas W Ela's Reviews
We were referred to Dr. Ela by close friends who also see him and sang his praises. My father has suffered 2 strokes battling Afib and it's been a whirlwind since the pandemic occurred in 2020 to not only get him stable but to understand what exactly he's going through as it's been very frustrating for all of us. Dr. Ela provided detailed and sincere care at our first appointment and I'm grateful to have found a doctor who has obvious experience and just as important, a gentle approach with my Dad. I absolutely recommend this Dr. & location is both easy to find and accessible.
After waiting weeks for a scheduled telehealth visit on 5/31, I was never contacted for the appointment. I sent my new patient paperwork and recieved a confirmation of receipt the morning of my appointment. Originally I was scheduled for 1:15pm but when I had not heard by 1:30pm I called the office and was told he was running 45 minutes behind. That's not unheard of but I was told to stay by the phone because he would be calling. 4pm comes around and I call the office again and wait on hold for 10 minutes before I had to hang up and return to work. I left a voicemail at 5pm asking for a call the next day. Never recieved a call the next morning so I called the office again and was told that the assistant "gave the doctor everything he needed for the appointment so I don't know why he didn't call" and offered me an appointment 6 weeks away. I said that was unreasonable given that I already had an appointment and I needed him to make an exception. The assistant was supposed to call me back after speaking with him, again never recieved a call. I called back today AGAIN and was placed on hold for 35 minutes while she tried to speak with the doctor only to be told he can't help me with the prescription I need without an appointment and he's not going to fit me in sooner. This was not my mistake but I'm being forced to suffer because of it.
My mother suffered a severe stroke six months ago and received poor neurological care - until she visited Dr. Ela. Knowledgeable, kind and experienced, Dr. Ela has patiently answered her myriad questions directly, honestly and thoughtfully. His compassionate candor has alleviated many of my mother's fears and helped her mentally, physically and emotionally. I cannot speak highly enough about Dr. Ela. He's that good.
Can't believe this doctor.prescribes seizure medication to my 86 year old mother.it was too strong. We called his office every day for four or five days for him to change the dosage.never returned a call.i called my mom's insurance co. They called .no retuned calls at all .he never even ordered the EEG test he said he would order.his office was a little scary.i felt I was back in the 70,s. I would think twice before I would go to this doctor.he doesn't seem to care about his patients.i hope other doctors see this review. Very scary ! ! !
I think that this Dr. really does know his stuff. But he is NEVER at this office, they either always close early or are on vacation. Staff rarely answers the phone. My son was sent for a MRI, they for sure charged us for the visit for him to be told that, but no one EVER called us back with the results. Its been over 3 months. He is late to virtual appointments and then calls back at a different time when people aren't available. Now I am stuck looking for a new doctor for my son because this one is not dependable.
Caring, knowledgeable with excellent bedside manner -highly recommend.
Dr Eba was very kind and knowledgeable. And understanding.
Poor manners with patient. Did not pay any attention to what the patient was saying.
My husband had a stroke last year and is battling cancer this year and is experiencing TIA’s. Dr. Ela has been wonderful in explaining things to us about his conditions and he knows so much about not only neurology but how the entire body works together. He has recommended us to other specialists to get things checked out. In other words, he thinks out of the box and he cares about your entire health. We’re so grateful to him for the time and attention he gives us. We never feel rushed and by the end of each appointment we feel we have really learned a lot about my husband’s conditions. Can’t speak highly enough of him. Much better than any of the neurologists at St. Joes, I have been to 3 of them there personally and Dr. Ela is far superior in so many ways.. Dr. Ela is the only neurologist we will see now. When we mention to other doctors in the St. Jude system that Dr. Ela is our neurologist, they always say he’s the best...and we agree!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
