City Of Hope Glendale's Online Review Report Card

Even in the midst of pain and illness, it is deeply touching to see how many people truly care about you. Everyone knows you by name, and they greet you with a smile. You never feel like just another patient or just another name on a medical chart. I don’t want to mention specific names because the list would be long, but from my heart—thank you to each of you, and to Dr. Ucar Kalust, for your kindness and caring hearts. Your compassion means more than you know.

My Mother was diagnosed with stage 4 MBC with mets to her bones after a hospital visit in late December, early January. After doing a ton of research and getting recommendations we decided to go to City of Hope in Glendale and my Mothers oncologist was Dr. Ucar. During our first visit, where she was going to hear for the first time her official diagnosis and learn more about what was going on- He basically said, this is what you have, you will probably live 2 years, and said word for word, "We all have to die some day." and gave us all of 5-10 minutes of his time, if that. The whole staff twas pretty all over the place, not very understanding, and to be honest just seemed to be not the most educated relative to what you would expect from such a renowned Cancer Center/Facility. After a handful of visits to COH I decided to do some searching and we found LA Cancer Network and an absolutely wonderful Oncologist with an amazing staff. My Moms attitude changed completely and they gave her hope and an education on what she is dealing with. They gave her/us a new treatment plan and they gave her time, empathy, and knowledge. Since then my Mothers tumor has shrunk 3x, her bloodwork is excellent, and the referrals for things such as physical therapy to radiology, etc. have been great. Obviously a lot of people have had good experiences at City of Hope, and the one thing I can say that is positive is the initial intake/admins I spoke with over the phone were very kind and informative- but for us the best thing we ever did was get a second opinion. I write this in-depth review hoping if someone else is reading this who is dealing with cancer, or if you are an advocate for a friend or family member, please consider getting a 2nd or even 3rd opinion elsewhere and find what's right for you. No one should be treated the way my Mother was when dealing with such a serious matter, and the doctor, the staff, and the Medical Center as whole should look at themselves and look into this location to maybe reconsider if they are the correct people for the job. Anyone can go to school, get a degree, and get a job- all that takes is the ability to have the time, discipline, and the ability to retain and regurgitate information. That does not mean that they have what it takes to be great or even good at what they do. It takes intellect as well as emotional intelligence to deal with medical needs at this level, and that was severely lacking here. I feel as though the majority of the Glendale City of Hope would be better off utilizing their degrees or certificates in a setting like an Urgent Care or a Dentists office, and I mean that honestly with no ill-intent. Lastly, I want to make it clear that this wasn't a case of not being able to accept reality, or expecting personalized 24/7 special care just because it is my Mother. I understand they are dealing with 100s or 1000s of patients every day and I realize and respect that. This was a case of receiving the bare minimum at a time and place that was completely inappropriate and frankly lazy.

The Infusion Center at City of Hope exceeded every expectation. From the moment we arrived, the nurses made my wife feel completely at ease. Yeva and her team were incredibly patient, attentive, and compassionate — not only explaining each step but making the experience feel calm and comfortable. What could have been a stressful procedure was over before we even realized, thanks to their professionalism and gentle care. What really stood out was how genuine and warm the nurses were in conversation. They treated us not just as patients, but as people, creating a supportive environment that made all the difference. We left feeling deeply grateful for their skill, kindness, and humanity. City of Hope is fortunate to have such extraordinary caregivers, and we will never forget the comfort Yeva and the entire team provided.

I am very happy to be a patient of this clinic. Everybody in the clinic is very friendly and attentive. My doctor Farah Quyyumi always explains everything and pay attention to all my concerns. I feel that she is not only a knowledgable doctor but also cares and really wants to help me as much as she can. The nurses (Lala and Yeva and others) always try to make injections less painful, I see a lot of empathy from them. They always offer additional help. Receptionists are friendly as well. I have only good things to say about this clinic.

My name is Juan Ibarra , desesperated husband, don’t know what to do, my wife is battling cancer , in a community hospital, we tryed to get some service at this hospital but insurance issues don’t let her been admitted, I wish all people with cancer ahold be admitted with out restrictions, life matters to humans being

4 years going here. Not a single moment that was less than perfect. I have had a very hard life and these people walked me through the worst of it so far. They were perfect towards me. And I am not an easy person to deal with due to autism and related issues. So I have nothing but compliments for the doc and the staff. I thank them very much for helping me so much and being so kind through an admittedly rough experience due to the process of treatment that my condition required. I couldn't ask for more.

AVOID this infusion center. 1. They do not enforce a mask policy and patients walk around unmasked - while getting chemo! Nurses do nothing about this. Life or death much ? 2. If you come here you will be forced to pay for a Drs visit for a rando Dr to make proclamations about you without knowing anything about you our your case - this alleged Dr is an oncologist - you are FORCED to see him in order to be treated, even if you don't have cancer or need an oncologist. They want your money honey. If you self advocate or speak up, staff will act as if you are crazy. STAY AWAY. (when it was Pacific Shores it was amazing - no longer)

If you need to visit this place, then I'm sure it's not for a great reason. BUT, the people are so nice and welcoming that you will be pleased. they are very good at what they do and definitely have a great knack for showing you how much they care for you while you are visiting their facility. I highly recommend.

It’s all about listening and answering to all your concerns, and Dr. Ucar is doing it with compassion, attentiveness and professionalism. Very friendly, supportive and positive attitude staff.
