I have worked with Dr. van Schoor for several years. She is a professional in every sense of the word.
Dr. van Schoor saved my son's life. He had been under the care of a child psychiatrist since he was a small child. His symptoms were subtle, but significant. Over the years crises continued. He was medicated, but nothing seemed to change. Once he saw Dr. van Schoor, she tested his genetics and found that his medication wasn't being utilized - so it was worthless. She changed his medication and it was like turning on a light switch in a darkened room. His brain is now getting the chemicals it needs to be a functioning adult. She is a caring and dedicated professional whose calm demeanor put everyone at ease. She also could sense underlying issues like a heat seeking laser. Highly recommend her.
0 stars it it were possible.I already posted this on Eric Van Schoor’s page, but I really want to give people a fair heads up.I was misdiagnosed 10 years ago by the Van Schoors and even after multiple meetings they never re-evaluated me… for 10 years! Not only this but when it came to medication I had many issues, one of which was that when I brought a possible side effect to Julie Van Schoor’s attention instead of listening she upped my medications. I then learned, after connecting with another mental healthcare professional, that the exact medication that was upped, was what was the cause of the side effect that I mentioned. Not only this but it was a common side effect that she should have caught. And the latest is receiving a billing statement saying that I had 2 Telehealth appointments. The second of which all Julie Van Schoor said to me was, essentially, that she could not help me, for which I am now being billed $500. At the time I was having a mental health crisis, alone, in a new place.I will never recommend them to anyone. The lack of care and interest in me as a patient, as well as discounting my struggles because they never bothered to know me or the stuff that I have witnessed and dealt with.I have now found someone new, and after one appointment with her actually listening to me (amazing how that works) my diagnosis has changed and I am seeing improvement in my mental health for the first time in forever, or so it feels. In short, do not go here. Go somewhere that values you, your mental health, understands how hard it is to struggle but still have hope and looking for help.
Julie began treating my Grandson M. Dunlap when he was 16 years old. When Julie moved from Ukiah to Healdsburg We followed her. I can honestly say if not for her superb knowledge and understanding of psychology relating to young people, he would not be as compliant with his medications as he is today. She addresses the problems he is having and explains the reasons why it is necessary for him to take specific medications and how they will affect him. I have had many family members who have had behavioral health problems and without doubt the majority of the suffering they've encountered has resulted from not taking the medications as prescribed. There has only been one time in 9 years that M stopped taking his medications. I received a phone call from Julie's office this week to see if M would be willing to switch over to another Dr. in her office in order to diminish her case load. I was opposed to the idea but when I ask him his opinion he responded, "You know, I can legally stop taking my meds if I want to". That was all I needed to hear from him in as far as his feelings about changing doctors. Thanks for all the Psychiatric Doctors that are as caring and understanding as she is. She's one in a million and M loves and trusts her. She's the "Best of the Best" Pokie Dunlap
She was patient and sweet with my daufhter. I would 100% recommend her.
