List of Andrew P. Gerken's Reviews
Dr. Gerken was dismissive and abrupt. He didn't really want to answer my questions about my broken foot. It felt like I was wasting his time. I left with a shoe they fitted me for but I was in horrible pain when I walked in it. He told me to basically drag my foot, and to ignore all that I was told about the boot I was put in at Urgent Care. I went for a second opinion and was given very different advice. I'm back in the boot, on crutches, and in less pain. His arrogance was what bothered me the most.
Great doc with exceptional bedside manner. I've been here more than once and each time felt confident, comfortable and we'll treated.
I couldn't recommend a doctor any more highly than Dr. Gerken, as well as the entire team. I had a very pesky tib/fib fracture that required a rod and screws, and then due to the location of the injury and the limited blood flow to that region of the body, I actually required a 2nd procedure called a bone marrow aspiration to stimulate bone growth. Throughout the entire process, Dr. Gerken was highly competent and highly skilled. He told me, "We will get you right" and he was true to his word! It's been 8 years since the original injury and I can ski normally and squat well over 300lbs as if the injury never happened at all. This is also a doctor that really cares about his patients and their outcomes. I highly recommend.
Had surgery for multiple breaks in my lower leg. Dr Gerken took great care of me. The surgery was handled really well. This was my first time with full anesthesia and I was a bit nervous. But the whole process was nurturing and easy. I was put under anesthesia in the pre-op area and woke up back there after surgery. The anesthesiologist also took time to talk with me and I let him know that my body is pretty sensitive to medication as I rarely take any. Whatever he gave me was perfect. I didn't have any lingering side effects. Working on recovery now and it's been going well.
Dr Gergen did a minor surgery on my foot -everything -the office staff - the operating staff and Dr Gergen made it easy to understand and were very good at what they do - a success for me
I had my appointment with Dr. Gerken a few hours ago and I have been upset since I left. I called the office to see the former podiatrist who I previously had for surgery. I was informed Dr. Gerken had taken his place. After explaining my problems to him, he said he couldn't do anything. I questioned about some procedures I had learned of and he went off about "not watching any of that crap on TV "and he was so tired about hearing issues from TV. I apologized saying I didn't mean to offend him. Then I explained what the other dr did for me and he said " I'm not a podiatrist, IM A MEDICAL DOCTOR, IM A SURGEON!" Why did your office send me to you then??? He then wrote the name of another Dr. on the sanitary paper on the table and send to call him. He really liked him and he could probably help with small stuff. He then sent in someone with a small spacer for my toes and that was it! Wow, I guess if you fit his description of what he does, then he might be good. Obviously he felt insulted by me being there. It was a useless experience for me and I was sent to him by his office!
I saw Dr Gerkin on a recommendation of a neurologist I had seen. I waited 55 minutes to be seen and was in his office for 10 minutes. He did a cursory exam and told me he really didn't know what was wrong with my foot. I then went to another orthopedist and he took x-rays and diagnosed my problem as having chronic plantar fasciitis with a possible tear. My new doctor gave me 2 treatments to choose from and 2 months later I am almost 100%. Dr Gerkin charged my insurance $480.00 for the 10 minute exam. My new doctor charged $388.00 for an extensive exam including the x-ray. I would not recommend Dr Gerkin to anyone.
I am sorry to give this man 5 stars.I want to give him 10 stars--- he deserves. !0 minutes solved my foot problems.... and saved me a bunch of money
I've have orthopedic problems since I was born over 30 years ago and I can't remember seeing anyone with the incompetence and utter lack of interest in treatment that was displayed by Dr. Gerken. Not only could he not offer a straight answer for questions like if I would be able to walk with my heel bone removed, after about 10 minutes of non-answers and smug indifference, he started to abruptly make his way out the door and I had to keep peppering him with questions to keep him from walking out on me. He should have retired years ago if he cares this little about patient care.
My whole experience is not finished yet, but so far I am extremely satisfied with Dr Gerken and all staff members. They have made my foot surgery seamless as possible. Dr Gerken is to the point. He has no problem answering any questions you have. Thank you to the whole Hoag Orthopedic team that works with Dr Gerken!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
