My dad recently had cataract surgery with Dr. Chao. He was 20/20 (normal vision) but Dr. Chao made it seem like it was urgent. Dr. Chao said his angles were getting narrow and would go blind, which is not true. I knew ophthalmic terminology and I said my dad wants to see 20/20 and J1+. Dr. Chao charged extra but couldn’t deliver the results. My dad is seeing distance 3 lines worse than prior to surgery now. Dr. Chao offered to do free “cleaning” which sounds harmless but when I asked what that was, he said PRK. PRK is basically shaving the front part of the eye. PRK is not really done nowadays and I feel that it’s like a cover-up. It causes chronic dry eyes that is untreatable with even excessive artificial tear use and not even medicated eye drop companies want to cover. We wanted to use a more noninvasive approach to fixing the problem with glasses but his staff tried to schedule. At a post op appointment, Terry did not clean the tip and was mad I asked him to clean it.

This doctors should stick to his care for patients rather than also solicit health insurance.

i have gone to dr. chao now for a few yeard as my primary care doctor really just for my annual physical. this past year after a swimming accident in mexico when i injured my nee and a major fall resulting in a tramatic brian injury here on june 15th and the need for shoulder surguery, the doctor, his assistant willa, the staff n.p and the balance of the team has been outstanding in providing medical care across many care areas. i have had to see many doctors and the chao staff has been key in all of this. i strongly endorse them. so much, due to my surgery three days ago, i am writing this one handed... ed reidy san francisco

I have been seeing Dr Chao for many years, after struggling to find an eye doctor that met my needs. Dr. Chao is very personable and it feels like he truly cares about his patients. He is willing to spend as much time with me as I need, to answer all of my questions and he is extremely knowledgeable in his field. In addition, Dr. Chao has surrounded himself with very helpful and friendly staff. Lastly, I have never had to wait long for my appointments, which has not been the case at other Optimologist offices. I highly recommend Dr Chao and I have done so to friends and family.

I cannot recommend Dr Chao and his office highly enough. I have gone to Dr Chao for eye exams and cataract surgery. After being treated by many eye doctors over my 85 years, I have not met any office or any eye doctor of this quality. Dr Chao was highly recommended by my internist and friends. This office is always on time and uses the latest equipment. Dr Chao is also very personable and gives each patient as much time as needed.
