Dr. Thakkar is one of the kindest and most compassionate Doctors I have ever seen. Not to mention his great skills as a Neurologist. He is thorough and had a comprehensive approach to my issues. He has been a bright light into what has been a difficult diagnosis and treatment for many years. Thank You Dr. Thakkar!
I have had chronic neck pain for 15 years. I saw multiple specialists during this time, but none could really improve my pain. I tried medications and physical therapy and trigger point injections, massage, chiropractors and acupuncture. None of it helped very much. Then I found Dr Thakkar and he diagnosed me with Cervical Dystonia. He listens very well and he's personable. He's not rushed during appointments. He suggested Botox injections in the painful muscles. My pain is nearly gone. It's amazing. I am extremely thankful to be almost pain free.
After several neurologists, we were blessed to be referred to Dr Sandeep Thakkar at Hoag In Newport Beach. A few years before, my husband had been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. He had to quit his job and go on disability. The medication was only helping part time. The past Drs weren't very personable or encouraging. We changed insurance and were referred to Dr Thakkar.

Our first meeting I was impressed. He comes to the waiting room himself to greet his patients and escort them to his office. He took a full history, sent my husband for a full evaluation that took several days, but most of all he gave us hope.

Dr Thakkar is a Movement Disorder Specialist. Movement disorders specialists are neurologists with additional training in Parkinson's disease and are often the best kind
of doctor to see for a definitive diagnosis or to work with to create an ideal effective treatment plan.

Dr Thakkar immediately changed his medication to a newer one: Rytary. He explain that my husband qualified to have Deep Brain Stimulation Surgery. It was scheduled and appointments set up for programming. Everything he does is tailored to the individual patient. Since the surgery, my husband has only had to continue on the Rytary. He was able to go off of several additional medications. My husband has seen him for over 3 years now. Dr Thakkar has always been compassionate and positive with every appointment. He encourages us to email him with any concerns and always answers them promptly. He cares about his patients but also about the family unit.

Dr Thakkar sees patients in Newport Beach, Irvine and Orange. We drive from the Inland Empire and it is worth every mile.

We can't recommend Dr Thakkar more highly. If you have Parkinson's Disease or another Movement Disorder, call his office today.
Dr. Thakkar has helped my 76 year old mom, who has Parkinson's, improve incredibly and he has done so with a great bedside manner. She has Parkinson's related dementia with hallucinations and delusions. As hard as this has been for my mom and our family, Dr. Thakkar slowly and carefully changed her medications and gave me hope. While there is no cure, Dr. Thakkar has brought back my mom to someone who knows what is going on around her again. He listens to our concerns and patiently works with us to figure out the best solution. I am so very grateful to Dr. Thakkar and I recommend him highly!
While most of the reviews here are for Parkinson's, I am being treated for Blepharospasm, which is the involuntary spasm of the eyelid muscles. I have to get Botox injections in my eyelids every 8 to 12 weeks. Dr. Thakkar is one of the only neurologists in the area who treats this. I am so glad I found him (with the help of Anthem, my medical carrier) and am extremely confident in his ability. He actually teaches other doctors how to do these injections. I have never had any issues trying to reach this doctor, in fact he called me directly to change the time of one of my appointments. I highly recommend him!
I've been diagnosed with youngonset Parkinson's disease and was so incredibly fortunate to have been referred to Dr. Thakkar 3.5 years ago after having seen two other underwhelming neurologists.

Dr. Thakkar is an outstanding physician (and I've seen many). He is great with followup and followthrough. He is not the takethispillandI'llseeyounextyear type; I've seen him at least a dozen times now to adjust medications and discuss treatment, which is important because Parkinson's is a progressive disease.

Dr. Thakkar is very personable and takes time during appointments to treat me as a whole; I've never felt rushed, even when he's running behind. He is extremely knowledgeable from current treatments and therapies to the latest research and clinical trials. He answers every question I ask in detail. He tailors my treatment specifically to me, which is so important because Parkinson's affects each patient differently. He is concerned, compassionate, and absolutely accessible; my emails have always been answered, personally by him, within a day.

About 7 months into my treatment under Dr. Thakkar, I found myself in an unusual, highrisk situation with limited medically documented precedent. Dr. Thakkar was extremely responsive, consulted his mentors, did additional research, communicated with my other medical specialist at the time, and successfully guided me through with care. Afterwards he even thanked my for my trust.

Dr. Thakkar is an involved, handson physician who genuinely cares about his patients. There currently is no cure for Parkinson's disease, but if I have to live with it, I am at least thankful to have Dr. Thakkar on my side.
Dr. Thakkar is an outstanding neurologist at Hoag Hospital with two locations to choose from. He can be seen in Irvine or Newport Beach. We are extremely grateful to be working with him. My husband has Parkinson's Disease and just recently had the Deep Brain Stimulation surgeries. Dr. Thakkar has been expertly programming the new device and helping my husband to reduce his medications. My husband has never felt better. It has been a great experience working with him. He is incredibly knowledgeable about Parkinson's, great recall from visit to visit, superior listening skills, easy to email and get a quick response and has a wonderful, caring and positive manner when working with you. Everyone I have spoken with about Dr. Thakkar has great respect and admiration for him. He is a truly wonderful doctor who is positive, encouraging and a real expert in his field.
Just had my first visit with Dr Thakkar. He was so caring and open to treating a difficult patient like me. He admitted that what I have isn't his specialty but that he wanted to help me and would work with me to see what we can do.

Also, his office staff was also caring and helpful. Especially Edward. He was so helpful getting me scheduled in a timely manner.

Thank you Dr Thakkar and Staff!!
Best neurologist I have EVER met!!! Brought my mom in bc she tested positive for Fragile X which causes memory and balance issues later in life and he was able to suggest new medications for us that could help, and even suggested looking into Parkinson's as well. He is a movement disorder neurologist and is very very thorough. He is in the Hoag network right by the hospital and great staff and he is great himself. He even gave me his email for follow up with concerns. Love this guy!
I *love* this doctor! After a very bad experience with another Neurology practice, I was nervous about seeing a neurologist at all, but Dr. Thakkar was just wonderful. I see why he's received so many positive reviews! He's kind and down to earth, thorough, doesn't rush things at all, and he's clearly great at and cares about what he does. I feel like I'm finally in good hands! (Sigh of relief.) If you're here because you're wondering whether or not to make an appointment with him: don't hesitate!

All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
