List of Lars R. Newsome's Reviews
I’ve seen Dr. New some for radio frequency ablations to my neck, he is gentle and quick. I showed him my genetic testing to medications and he was very understanding that I would need more sedation meds than most due the some genetic anomalies and he made the required changes right away and made sure I was comfortable before starting the procedure. I’ve seen him 4 times now. I hope he doesn’t plan on retiring any time soon!
I’d love to see Dr. Lars Newsome, I heard he is great!! However, I’ve been dealing with with different Dr’s and front desk people for 5 years between UCSD, Scripps and UC Davis with some great front desk & Doctors as well as medical staff. I’d like to try Newsome as my person to do Cervicle injections, since my surgery. I have switched insurance carriers & had my surgery at UC Davis because of the great Doctor and because of type of insurance. Diana who runs Dr Newsome’s books at Surgery Center has an attitude, seems like she is just there to get a pay check… rude.. with her tone. I asked to have Dr. Newsome’s email she wouldn’t give it out. She said she is manager, basically it’s ok I guess to be very rude with tone. About the requirements to have Dr. Newsome see me. I’ve talked to plenty of front desk medical workers in San Diego and US Davis… She has an attitude, who clearly doesen’t understand nerve pain. It’s really not ok! So basically no way of getting a hold of the Dr.
Dr. Lars Newsome is the Best Dr. I have ever had who has done all My Nerve Root Injections at the La Jolla Surgery Center. Unfortunately I need more nerve root injections, but I am happy to have them done at the La Jolla Surgery Center and always By Dr. Lars Newsome! I give Dr. Newsome as well as the La Jolla Surgery Center 5 Stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!
I have no doubt that Newsome is a well informed Dr. and I his education is impressive. I saw him for about 2 years and then for about 6 months. I understand why he has fairly poor bedside manner, and that is becasue he has little respect for his patients. I am confident that he sees many as drug atttics, pure and simple. I am confident, that becasue I had surgery on and had 1/2 my disc at C3-C4 cut out, and had a bulging disk at C6-C7, along withe severe narrowing of the spinal canal, he felt my pain was real. No doubt in my mind. I met so many other paitents, while sitting in his rented office space (just for that night), that had no surgery and were being given powerful pain meds. Many were very strung-out. But, my issue, I would have a 6PM appointment and I did not leave that office until 9:30-10:30PM. Just no respect for my time. He does his job. He does not go above and beyond, he will likely never be sued, as he covers his bases. He needs to give up on the cash and focus on other areas beyond narcotic pain manegment. He is a competent doctor, I don't care what anyone writes. He just does not have allot of respect for the drug attics he knows exist within his practice. I have finally realized, the idea of treating chronic pain with massive amounts of opiods is a ridiculous notion. I am in the process of getting off and taking a completly non-narcotic approach. He never offered that as a suggestion. I think he knows we want the drugs. He was more of "good doc" or his bedside manner improves significantly when he is performing procedures, such as trigger points and epidurals. He should focus on that and stop being the big time drug dealer he essentially is. I do have respect for his knowledge and education.. But he had no respect for my time and he was no help when I wanted off the pain meds. He just gave me a 30 day supply and said "taper" off. I threw up for 5 days straight, calling him in-between vomiting. Never a return call. I had to call my Psychiatrist to ask what was going on? I did not know that is what they meant by withdrawal. My ignorance tho. All I had to do was Google it. AND yes, I over-took them when he first prescribed; he should really edcuate us more. He belives in "tough-love" (kinda). He knows we usually are not going to die, just get really sick, and it will likely never happen again (taking too much at first and then running out). I just wish he would have reinforced that. I think he over-prescribes, but I am the one that accepted that amount of opiates and I am the one that did not follow his directions. It is just a nasty side of pain treatment. Focus should ALWAYS be on non-narcotic options and it should be reinforced. Problem is, 50% of the people there, just want the strongest opiates that they can get b/c they make you feel great; "great" at a very high cost. Oh, and Vickie is awesome and NOT rude. She ALWAYS helped me out and she was ALWAYS understanding. Anyone complaining about her, is a patient that Vickie has identified as a drug seeker. I know this. She was nothing but kind and competent with me. She told me reality on times and waits, while Newsome would not. Bottom line, if your time is not that important to you, you are retired or on disability, then he's fine. If you have a job or own a biz, them I would go elsewhere. It, for me, was all about time. He is a good doctor that I think, became kinda greedy. And again, if you're just getting pain meds from him, with no non-narcotic treatments, he will loose repsect for you. Which I get.
After I got my injection have very bad pain. There's a warning from the FDA about this injectionin, my back got worse after the injection ,I will not take this again
I highly recommend Dr. Newsome for anesthesia. He is the only physician who has not left me shaking and vomiting after surgery.
Dr. Newsome has been my Dr. since 2002. He has done all my Nerve Root Injections amd I needed several due to unrelenting Pain from a bad fall at work ending up in a not so successful back surgery. I have had the Honor of Having Dr. Lars Newsome not only perform all my Nerve Root Injections, but He was also my Anesthetiser for all my Surgery’s I had to under go. I am hoping to get my next injections done from Him again. He is the absolute best Anesthetiser I have ever worked with, and feel Blessed that I found Him. I Give Him 5 Stars ?? ????????! He also has an incredible Bedside Manner that unfortunately most Doctors I have had to work with do Not have. He is the Best! Thank You Dr. Newsome for everything. Sincerely, Suzanne Torkar
Results are going to vary heavily as everyone has a different response/issue. This guy is to the point and doesn't mess around. These injections have been nothing short of a miracle for my lower back pain. Thank you Doc!
He is straight and to the point. I like that. I had him do my epidural injections for a couple years until my condition degenerated and required surgery at which time I requested the be my anaesthesiologist. Request pre-meds if you're at all jumpy or anxious. I'd let him do just about anything to me after the pre-meds he ordered. There's no place to comment but his scheduler, Diana is awesome. She's always able to get me in very fast, often same week and is very proactive.
Dr. Newsome is one the most caring Doctor's my wife and I have ever met. I don't know what we would ever have done without his guidance on my wife Janice's constant battle with severe pain over the last 20 years. She has 3 herniated discs in her neck, that she deals with day in and day out. She is not a candidate for surgery so her only alternative is to visit the pain clinic monthly to get some sort of relief. Without it she would not be able to function normally. She often say's that Dr. Newsome is her guardian angel. Sincerely, Janice & Manuel Sousa

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
