He is just looking for your money,
If you are looking for a surgeon who is professional, attentive, compassionate, caring, patient, extremely knowledgeable and possesses a long history of successful surgeries, then contact Dr. Bhoyrul first. Dr. Bhoyrul's knowledge and extensive review of my condition (which may have been due to a previous surgery by another doctor) led to him quickly isolating an issue that he was able to immediately correct. Now, six years later, I still see Dr. Bhoyrul for occasional checkups (at my request). He still brings that genuine and caring concern for his patients' best interests, and does not leave the appointment until the patient has all of their questions answered. I know my health care is in excellent hands under Dr. Bhoyrul's watch and know my quality of life would be very different (much poorer) without his genuine and continued interest in my success and well-being.
I have been wanting to write this review for THREE years.I have a LOT to say. If you are thinking about getting gastric surgery with Dr. Bhoyrul... please read this.Let's start from the beginning. I was supposed to have a different weight loss surgery with a different doctor in September 2018. When the doctor went in for surgery she had to stop because she said I had a hiatal hernia. I was very confused because I had no digestive issues and very upset because at the time had paid out of pocket for elective surgery. Now January 2019 I began seeing Dr. Bhyorul and explained to him my situation. He recommended Gastric Sleeve and I was on board. He had me do an endoscopy with a doctor in that building he works with to see if I had a hernia or not because when doing the Sleeve Surgery they can fix the hernia at the same time. My endoscopy comes out showing NO HERNIA according to Dr. Bhoyrul. We proceeded with all the post op appointments including all the required dietician appointments. Insurance makes you do all these so that it looks like surgery was the last and final try to lose weight. I spent all together a few thousand on co-pays, dietician appointments, supplies from the office, deductibles, medications, AND unexpected hospital charges.I did not mind at the time. I wanted to get healthy. We are now in August 2019. I had Gastric Sleeve Surgery. I felt great. No pain, no issues. All the staff and doctors were so great and kind. Went on with my life. A few months later when I finally began having a few bites of solid food.. I started having problems. I would have like burp attacks. They would happen every single time I ate food.. no matter what kind and how little. It was getting worse to the point where it was BELCHING and I would have to sit alone for an hour after eating and belch very very loudly and be in so much pain. I complained about this to the doctors and to Kirsten. They brushed it off. I went home and started documenting these belching episodes. October 2020 a year later, I went back and played them for Dr. Bhoyrul. He immediately said "No, that is not normal. I need you to get and endoscopy immediately. You might have a hernia." I remember saying WHAT?? I literally was in shock. I kept saying I thought you checked for this last year before my surgery are you sure it's not something else?? I went and did the endoscopy and guess what... there's a hiatal hernia. Now what do I do?Scheduled the surgery for November 2020 to have the hiatal hernia removed.I was infuriated upset and frustrated. I am not a shallow person but the scar and trauma damage this surgery caused to my previous gastric wounds has left me feeling so sad. Everytime I look at my stomach I get so mad. Because Dr. Bhoyrul did NOT do his due diligence as a doctor the first time around I had to have surgery TWICE when it could have been taken care of the first time around. I literally have two belly buttons now thanks to him. Do you want to know what the absolute worst part is? The belching DID NOT go away. I told them this several times. I went in February 2021 and said I am still having these problems. They brushed me off and said there was literally nothing that can be done about it. It is now October 2022. While I am thankful for the weight loss I am in pain everyday. Every meal. I have a lot of friends who had gastric before and after me. None of them have these issues. I live in pain every single day and in shame because after a meal I need to lock myself and be alone so I can literally belch out the gas. Please if you are thinking of doing any surgery with this office specifically Dr. Bhoyrul I encourage you to look elsewhere. I believe something went wrong in my surgery and he wasn't honest about it. I also believe he did not do his job as a caretaker and look at my tests/medical records efficiently from the beginning. If anyone who had gastric with this office experiences the same pain and belching episodes I do, please reach out.
My husband had suffered years of unnecessary pain from a hiatal hernia and an umbilical hernia. He had seen multiple doctors who weren't able give us answers or had been dismissive until we met Dr. Sunil Bhoyrul. He first positions himself to understand the party he is addressing by actively listening. I can't stress that enough. When first introduced to Dr. Bhoyrul, he asked my husband what he did for a living, he said "engineer". He explained my husband's diagnostic results and his condition in terms he could understand. He listened to my husband's concerns and research we had done on our own which actually some of the publications had referenced Dr. Bhoyrul's work. His holistic approach to medicine and in his assessment and treatment of my husband has been phenomenal. He had also referred us to specialists that he trusted implicitly for other conditions my husband has been suffering from as well. We came out of our visit with him more informed and reassured in one day than we did in the last two months. He has really set the bar of what healthcare standards in this country should be. He has been a God send to us.
Dr Bhoyrul is one of the top 3 Surgeons I have met in my 45 years of critical care nursing practice. He is one of only 2 Surgeons in California who are able to perform the technical, difficult laparoscopic surgery I required. In addition, he is warm, kind, and obviously genuinely cares about his patients. If you are lucky enough to have found him, don’t hesitate!
Dr Sunil Bhoyrul was the lead surgeon on my operation at Scripps Green hospital in La Jolla, California, one of his last surgeries while he was on staff there. My surgery failed immediately, since then I have had two revision surgeries. When I called his office to tell him the surgery failed I received a message back he would "be delighted" so see me again. Why the delight when my surgery failed? If I could give a negative infinity star rating I would, but the lowest rating I can give is 1 star. While I did not file a complaint of medical malpractice against Dr Bhoyrul, I should have and if they extend the statute of limitations I will.
Dr. Bhoyrul performed a very difficult Hiatal Hernia Surgery on me that others said could not be done with excellent results! I commend him for his honesty & explanation before surgery! He is one of the kindest & most compassionate Dr.s I have met in my 50 yrs. in the medical field. He truly cares about his patients as if they were his family! Excellent Surgeon & exceptional patient care!!
A true hero. Dr. Bhoyrul saved my mom's life. Truly. He diagnosed her life threatening condition. Operated. Healed her. Treated her as a VIP at Scripps. Always with confidence and a smile. And a hug. A true champion. A true medical hero. We are forever GRATEFUL to you Dr. Bhoyrul for Carole's care. God bless you.
Starting with our first appointment, Dr. Bhoyrul showed so much concern for my husband's total health. He has Parkinson's and a heart condition and needed hernia surgery. Dr. Bhoyrul checked with his cardiologist to be sure hernia surgery was safe. We are getting ready to move to Chicago very soon. Dr. Bhoyrul examined him and realized the surgery needed to be done before we leave, and was able to schedule this procedure quickly. He arranged for me to spend the night with Ken because of all his issues.I can't imagine any doctor doing more for a patient!! We most highly recommend Dr. Bhoyrul, and feel furtunate that our paths have crossed!
I cant say enough great things about Dr. Bhoyrul! I was referred by a friend from the San Diego area I actually live in the Central Valley a travel that far and I'm so glad I did I recently had surgery in February I have had the best care and never regret traveling so far he is amazing and he genuinely cares about his patients thoroughly explains the whole process treat you as an equal never as you're just a patient of his I just can't say enough nice things about him or the staff at Ole Del Mar if you're here to read reviews read no more make an appointment you absolutely won't regret it!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
