If it were possible to give this program negative infinity stars I would, because I believe the UCSD CHEAR program puts the general public at risk. The theory the program is trying to prove is that you address the eating disorder first, then the physical weight loss should follow. After months I found out the UCSD CHEAR program is directing patients to follow a caloric intake which is designed for weight maintenance, not weight loss. When I pointed out to the program director that such a program can result in serious health risks such as organ failure because the physical health issues are not being immediately addressed, the answer I received was that this is a behavioral program only. I believe the UCSD CHEAR program and the UC Regents are putting patient's health at risk and are are engaging in unethical scientific research. UCSD CHEAR has no cost treatments for minors, that said I would not put my child's health at risk by trying to prove this program's theory. I believe it is better to go to a medical doctor, for example one at Rady Children's Hospital or Scripps or Sharp or Kaisar, to holistically address both the physical health and if present any eating disorders. After well over $100,000 health insurance was paid to UCSD CHEAR, plus thousands in copays, and we discovered no weight loss, the UCSD CHEAR dietician lowered the caloric intake by a nominal amount 500 calories. I asked more than once how long it would take to reach the ideal weight at this lower caloric intake and received no reply, so I used a standard weight loss calculator and determined it would take over 120 years under the USCD CHEAR program to get to the ideal weight -- at which point everyone agreed the program was and will continue to be a failure with no net weight loss. I believe the UCSD CHEAR program is using a predatory intake process to get patients into the program with no disclosure that physical health is not a consideration for the program. If you or a family member are trying to lose weight, I recommend following a low fat diet such as the low fat diet books written by Ron and Nancy Goor, after reviewing such a program with your medical doctor, and if there are behavioral issues getting a referral to professional, not an intern like you'll in the UCSD CHEAR program. In the CHEAR program I was unable to convince the dietician that a low fat diet should be followed, and the director explicitly told me she would not direct patients in the program to such a diet. The body has an unlimited ability to store fat, eating healthy fats like almonds and avocados combined with Aerobic exercise to gain lean body mass may be a good idea if you're under your ideal weight, but not over IMHO. I met one friend/patient who I am told was not allowed to lower her caloric intake in the program even though she requested it, her weight went up and she went into crisis and she disappeared from the program. I hope she is okay and finds a doctor to put her on a weight loss program which will allow her to get to her ideal weight.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
