Henry Hudson's Online Review Report Card

I have been receiving shots from Dr. Hudson for wet macular degeneration. He is very fast, and says very little. I am left feeling uncertain about the whole experience. I am not qualified to rate him from a scientific perspective. From a human perspective, he seems very cold.

Absolutely the finest doctor I have ever seen for my eye problems. He is extremely competent and has a no nonsense approach to patients. He tells it like it is with clear explanations and accurate information. A true professional in every way.

First of all, I would like to suggest that you don't believe everything that has been written about Dr. Hudson. I did, and I was very reluctant to keep my appointment. When I did meet him, I found him to be very professional. He explained my problem in understandable terms, explained how he was going to treat it, and let me know the sequence that he was taking. I felt as though I was in good hands, and I'm looking forward to a full recovery. I would also like to add that he changed my prescription to a drug that is just as effective, but costs considerably less than what I am paying. The entire staff was excellent.

This fellow moved to San Diego a year ago to persue his love of ballroom dancing. He is extremely rude and verbally abusive to all of his patients and uses his superior intellect to try to impress. He may have a brain between his ears but the center that regulates empathy, compassion and modesty is missing.

Thankfully his staff is amazing. His bedside manner is about as inviting as ice and his ability to inject my eye is just short of indifference with no sympathy for my discomfort.

Dr. Hudson is straight and to the point. I want a surgeon who is confident and performs well, not a DR that sugar coats things and holds your hand. Dr. Hudson is a professional and a very "type a" personality. He gives you precise instructions and expects you to follow them. I have had two vitrectomy surgeries from him and I would definitely trust him with my friends and family. If you take someone being blunt and straightforward as mean, then you may need to "toughen" up a bit. Dr. Hudson is very professional. Being able to see after a competent surgeon completes your procedure is worth it to me.

I have seen 4 different retina specialists in 25 years for my macular degeneration. One of my other eye doctors said if he had to see a surgeon it would be Dr. Hudson, but don't expect any kind of good bedside manner. I trusted Hudson, as he appeared competent and I still have no argument with that. However, his manner is terrible. I would ask him a question and he'd give me such a scientific answer that I couldn't understand. I once asked a staff member for information about the drug he was using for my eye injections and she said they didn't have any written information. After each injection, he wouldn't rinse or patch the eye -- just handed me a wad of tissues to hold on it. I told him it really hurt when the anesthetic was wearing off and his reply was "no it doesn't, it's just a little needle." Every visit I wold leave his office frustrated, unknowing, and sometimes crying. I don't expect to be coddled at a doctor's office, but I do expect respect for my health issue -- it is MY VISION! He is making really good money for what he does and he should, but don't treat the patients as second-class people. I now go to a doctor who has both expertise and a wonderful, caring manner. Her staff is excellent. Wait time in the office might be a bit long, but I'm willing to endure that for what she does. I have told many people they should consider another retina specialist over Dr. Hudson.

I was unfortunately referred to Henry Hudson by my Ophthalmologist when she discovered the retina in my left eye had torn and was detaching. She said before sending me there, he is very competent, but is kind of mean. An understatement. He is an extremely competent surgeon and am grateful for, what appears to be a good result (I am four weeks out from the vitrectomy procedure). However, Dr. Hudson is rude, condescending, snide and DOES NOT LIKE to answer your questions. When we questioned the nurse about his behavior, we were told that he feels if it is important he will tell you, otherwise you don't need to know. I cannot wait until my post-operative care is done. I have warned as many people about him as I can. I believe a good doctor is one skilled in his specialty AND is willing to take the time to answer questions. He may have done several thousand of these procedures, but this is my first and I want to know what to expect. My follow up visits were five minutes or less and anytime my wife or I attempted to ask him questions we were brushed off as annoying him. I have spoken to several other doctors and they have noted they get a number of referrals due to his poor behavior. There are a number of qualified, gifted retinal specialists in Tucson, do not visit Henry Hudson, it will be an unpleasant experience. In addition, it is clear his staff cowers under his rule and are not interested in listening to your complaints.

Dr. Hudson may be educated and experienced in his field, but I could no longer deal with his rudeness, failure to listen, unhelpful, lack of empathy, aloofness, disrespect for my other eye doctors, and in general a jerk. His staff seems to cower when he's around, therefore they can't be warm and helpful. Yes, he's prompt because he has no time to spend with a patient, other than what exactly is on his agenda. If he does take a minute to answer a question, it is so technical that a lay person could never understand. And I have met several former staff members who say he should be written up. He doesn't even deserve a one star on bedside manner of spends time with me. I have a wonderful, caring, doctor now and I am so happy I changed!

I had a ruptured globe injury...not only did he save my eye; he saved my sight in one surgery. And he straightened out the work comp vultures. Will reccommend to anyone and everyone.
