Dr. Rice and his staff have always been so kind and helpful to me.  I had been seen on an ongoing basis by an ophthalmologist in Orange County for recurring iritis.  Moved to San Diego, had a baby, and then that tell tale pain was back.  I found Dr. Rice actually through another ophthalmologist (who was a specialist) and I'm so thankful I did.  When I spoke to his staff they were extremely helpful about getting me in for an appointment ASAP as I was dealing with pain.  Over the past almost two years I have seen Dr. Rice quite a few times (probably 4-6 times) and every time they have been wonderful.  The first time I saw him my daughter was only 3 months old and she has been with me for every appointment as we have no family/friends in the area and I don't have a sitter.  They are always so kind about me bringing her in and don't make big deal of it.  Dr. Rice even spent time with me on the phone on a Sunday when I was having atypical symptoms in my eye and answered all my questions.  The ladies also have spent time with me on the phone answering questions and helping me schedule appointments.  Thank you all so much for being so wonderful and helpful!

Went to see Dr Lawrence Rice at Methodist Hospital for symptoms I've had for many months, skin rashes, Low blood platelets. mass in my neck starting to form. He completely missed my diagnosis of Lymphoma and showed little interest in trying to do any research of my symptoms. Told me my platelet levels were normal that day and to get another blood test in three more months. I would never go back to this guy.

I visited Dr, Rice, who had previously performed cataract surgery, for a follow-up exam. Although I did not request a re-check on my left contact lens prescription, I mentioned to the technician who did the intake exam that I wanted a rewrite of my previous contact lens Rx. I paid a $40 co-pay for the complete exam and told the Dr. I wanted a rewrite on my Rx for the left lens (my only lens). During the exam, Dr. Rice asked if the lens was working for me and I said very well. He sent me to his person in charge of selling glasses to write the Rx and she requested another $50 for the Rx. I asked why I needed to pay for the rewrite. I was told because I had a "refractory" exam from the technician - who spent maybe two minutes asking me to read the chart withh my left eye. I know that Rx prescriptions for contacts or glasses are - by statute - only good for one-year, requiring consumers to visit their dr. or optician annually and pay for an exam. The reason given for that law is that people need to be seen by their doctors for confirming eye health. I was getting a full exam as it was, so my "eye health" was already the subject of the exam. I feel that Dr. Rice is charging for the Rx  for the conact lens- which was no more than two minutes of the exam, if that - because he can. Extracting that kind of profit from people whoa are already paying for the full exam is taking advantage of consumers. The law is an obvious lobby effort to keep consumers paying for exams they don;t need. After being examined by an MD who is an opthalmologist, there is no justification for charging me $50, except they wanted to make that profit off of me. They told me it would be $50 for one eye or two, didn't matter. I think it is a wrongful consumer practice, even if everyone does it and even if the law allows it. Shame on them all.

I had cataract surgery in both eyes, after researching, I found Dr, Rice definitely had the knowledge and experience I was looking for. No complaints at all!

I have to agree with the other reviewer.  I've had my contact lenses refitted four times now and they still haven't gotten it right.  The perscription/fit was changed everytime.  And that's taken nearly all year.  I finally gave up entirely.  The staff is nice, but overall, the place just doesn't have it together.  I've been wearing lenses for the last 30+ years and I've never had such a poor outcome.

Dr. Rice has always been very professional and explains everything. He needs to know how bad his front office gal Margie treats people. She's beyond rude. She makes you scared to call and ask a question. You would think I asked her to dig a ditch. She has no business working with the public.
