Dr. Manisha Kumar While no one wants to be diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder, I’m beyond happy that Dr. Kumar is my rheumatologist. She is experienced, knowledgeable, helpful and makes me smile. Her quick diagnosis and treatment plan gives me the confidence in knowing I’m getting the best possible care in my recovery process.

Direct equals Rude, Short and Dismissive Dr. Kumar enters the room and spares no time in quite literally telling you, that you are a waste of her time. That your issue is ‘just (blank)’ and to ‘learn to live with it’. She refuses to accept medical documentation from other doctors that are not within Scripps. I took my spouse with me the first appt and thank goodness I did. I have never been treated so poorly by a doctor who was so incredibly dismissive and blatantly told they do not want to actually spend time trying to help me, but instead using a lazy diagnosis as a poor excuse of medical care that left me in a position with no help. Dr. Kumar is very well educated. However she has no bedside manners or any concept of how to interact with patients. She is incredibly dismissive and is certainly not afraid to openly tell you that you are not worth her time and to just figure out how to live with it. Disregarding the entire fact that you have been suffering extensively and severely with very little quality of life. Stay away.

Dr. Kumar is kind, caring and knowledgeable and has been instrumental in my daughter’s care. She routinely goes above and beyond and is thorough and thoughtful with testing and consideration of diagnoses and treatment plan. We highly recommend Dr. Kumar!

Dr Kumar walks into the room with some well entrenched (and dismissive) views about autoimmune disorders. I couldn't get a word in edgewise and I am no shrinking violet. When people say she is very direct, what they are saying is she makes it very clear that she is directing this show... and the show may not even be about you.

PATIENT BEWARE I have a condition that I desperately wanted to have looked into. I had set an appointment up which I waited patiently for only to have it cancelled and they did not have a slot for me that I could make for the next 2 weeks. I told them I would try and accommodate her and take a time slot I most likely would not be able to make. It turns out I wasn’t able to make it. The receptionist asked her specifically if she could try and fit me in before 2 weeks out as I needed answers but she refused to accommodate me as I had offered to do for her. The receptionist at least cared but sadly some doctors care about their patients and others do not. If you are willing to wait a full month when your appointment gets cancelled go ahead and see her but if you really want answers quickly to your concerns I strongly recommend staying away from this doctor. Plain and simple.
