I have a lot of respect for Dr Chang. He is a highly qualified expert in his field and able to relate to people in a human and caring manner. I trust him and his decisions. God guides his hands.
This MD is irresponsible. He performed a brain tumor removal surgery on my father which unexpectedly left my father permanently paralyzed on one side of the body waist down. In the first six weeks after the surgery, Dr. Chang told us to just to wait and do more PT. After six weeks, it never got better. When we asked him for advice again, he just tried to distant from us and shrug off this failed surgery. His failed surgery left my father with 2.5 years of miserable bed-bound life before passing away due to complications. The surgery which was told by Dr. Chang as an easy one - right frontal lobe, 5mm tumor , obviously didn't go as easy as he expected. Worse, nor did he even show he ever cared about the results. Dr. Chang should NOT work in the care industry.
I found him to be very cold and distant. He kept me waiting for over an hour in an examination room and then spent less than 15 minutes with me. He did not explain the results of my MRI except to say that my tumors had not grown since my last MRI seven years ago, He then told me that I should have an MRI yearly to watch their progress! The staff who performed my MRI was great, very attentive, helpful and considerate., unlike Dr. Chang! I traveled over 200 miles to see him and he made me feel like I was wasting his time! Well, I feel like I wasted my time and I will seek professional help elsewhere.
Saw Dr Chang for an assessment. Had seen others before that gave me no idea of what to expect or what could be done. Dr Chang was extremely informative and gave me information and understanding such that I left feeling very confident that I knew enough to manage the condition, knew what to expect and when to deal with it.Excellent!
Dr. Steven Chang is AWESOME! My husband is a stage 2 colon cancer survivor - he is over 16 years cancer-free. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Chang. My husband, 39, went in for a routine polyp removal and it was very clear that there were additional problems; Dr Chang removed the cancer that was clearly visible. A few years later, I had a minor surgery (a lipoma on my rib, probably from a car accident - but who knows?) - I went to Dr. Chang. I have a tiny, discreet scar (despite the fact that there ended up being several of them) - no recurrence. So, yes, I recommend Dr. Chang.
I was in so much pain and right before emergency surgery saw Dr. Chang. Surrounded by nurses I exclaimed man he’s cute. Extremely caring compassionate and just made me completely trust him. All I can do is cry when I called his staff and they were just off the charts helping me navigate the medical system.
Dr Chang is easy to communicate with, describes in detail options and doesn't hold back information. He comes across as both caring and confident, in a professional manner.
UCSF Oral Surgeons and dentists misdiagnosed my pain from a dental implant one of their OS's placed for over a decade as being "psychological." In excruciating, horrific pain, I was finally referred to Stanford. I was diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia. Dr.Chang is extremely compassionate and understands every single symptom a Trigeminal Neuralgia patient goes through. Dr.Chang send me for an MRI at Stanford. Dr.Chang very thoroughly & clearly explained the branches of the Trigeminal nerve to me. And also my MRI results and all my treatment options. Dr.Chang did my brain surgery (MVD). For any patient who has Trigeminal Neuralgia (or any medical problem related to the human brain). I highly recommend Stanford and Neurosurgeon Dr.Steven D.Chang.
Outpatient surgery went smoothly from pre-ops thru follow-up. Very happy with Dr. Chang and his office staff, and the hospital.
Dr. Chang helped me when I developed symptoms from a brain tumor.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
