i went to see Dr. Caroline Choan. first week of September. She is an amazing sweet caring Doctor I have been to the office many time my mom is a patient of Dr.Shen. staring off i want to mention that Dr. Shen has saved my mom twice. First time last year do to problems with seizures. Then in January 2020 shee started getting swelling in the legs. so this is the sad part. I called the office after taking my mother to her Pramary Phisician on this matter, do to covid 19Dr was not been available in person only by phone. office apparently had limited staff. so the one person during the begging of this Covid was someone by the Name of Erika that called back 4 days after my call. No I was not upset that it to that long to call. I wss upset. because she is rude horrible bed side manners. she clearly did not relay to Dr. Shen the severely of my moms condition and how worried I was.Dr Shen and nurse Gabby and Kathy. are sweet caring amazing. i was surprised at how mean and rude she is. my mother's legs were so big after a month of continuous calls and no help. eventually Gabby called me, right away i got a call from Dr Shen. I explained what happened with my moms legs and turns out she ended up at the hospital but now shes ok. it was frustrating dealing with this inconsiderate uncaring person.now I went in the beginning of September do to problems in my lumbar. Dr Choan did the EMG also did the cervical as i have i some problems there too.. do to the results and my severe pain to my leg, she told Erika to send for approval to my insurance for MRI.Everytime I called Erika she is so stand off and Rude when I told her my insurance send me the approval for the lumbar so I wanted to know what next step to get the appointment. she snapped at me saying she didn't know what i was taking about.. that she couldn't get through to my insurance. Furthermore I had to call my insurance to get authorization for the cervical it was denied because she didn't attach the document for the cervical spine. yes I do get apset when people are rude and mean to me or anyone else. This is Doctors office staff in this kind of environment should be nice and caring. im scared!!!!! I dont need this 😪Dr Choans nurse well let's just say I rather talk to Gabby it shows at how much she loves her job and cares for people. Dr Choan is the sweetest very knowledgeable and explained everything took her time, and made me feel comfortable. I trust her.
I would recommend Dr. Choan but as it is necessary to engage with a rude, uncaring and incompetent assistant in order to receive services, there is no way I would recommend this office for health services.
doctors staff and front office are as important and crucial in patience well being as the docotr. errors and unprofessional behavior of staff and front office reflects directly on the doctor no matter how good a doctor is."the buck stops here" applies more to doctors than other professions since doctors are to care for patients and their health.<br>front office manage and some staff of this business are incapable of running patience most valuable asset, their health. their service is even poor for a livestock operation(barn, farm, etec.)
Dr. Caroline Choan is an excellent specialist with an office staff that lacks training and professionalism. It is sad to lose business because of that.
I highly recommend Dr Choan! She is an outstanding knowledgeable, skilled, and dedicated neurologist! She has excellent communication skills, and is very thorough in her medical assessments. She saved my life and I'm so very appreciative. Their office is too difficult to contact.. I am disappointed in their service.. even if you choose the number to press to directly connect to the patient coordinator of your doctor you still get thru an operator that connects you to the specific doctor's patient coordinator but unfortunately the patient coordinator doesnt pick up so you ended up leaving a voice message where in you dont get a callback anyway.. so i tried calling them again a week after same scenario, until now no callbacks... ..so frustrating and disappointing.... i regret choosing them as my provider.<br>So if u dont want to waste your time just by calling them.. dont choose this provider...or the clinic, all in all... cause its a domino effect.. same thing if you cant get hold of the front desk u cant get hold or get thru to the doctor as well..just saying...
ZERO! The office is not responsive. Choan is useless to offer help and will not reply to messages. Nursing staff is extremely rude and uncaring as well.
I showed up last week to the appointment that I made and after 15 minutes a lady came out and said she cancelled me by error and rescheduled it for today at 4:30pm. 3 days ago they called again and said that late appointments are not given to new patients and rescheduled me to 12:45. I showed up 10 minutes earlier to complete the paperwork, paid my copay and after 40 minutes of waiting when I asked how much longer they said there are 2 ahead of me which meant waiting another hour to hour and half. My time was disrespected.. As I left and on my way out 2 patients told me that this is the way it is in this office and they were considering finding another Dr. well I will find someone else.. office is mismanaged and expect to wait a min. of hour and half to two. I wonder if the Dr. would be ok making an appointment and having to wait for 2 hours anywhere else...
15 minutes after showing up for my scheduled appointment last week i was told it was cancelled by error and rescheduled for today at 4:30. 3 days ago I received a call telling me that appt. was an error and they don't take new patients at that time so once again it was rescheduled to 12:45 today. I showed up 10 minutes earlier to fill out the paperwork and after waiting 40 minutes I asked the front desk how much longer I need to wait and they said there are 2 patients ahead of me which means anywhere from additional hour to hour and half... seriously???<br>I decided to leave and 2 patients in the waiting room said that this happens all the time and that the wait can be even 2 hours...they are considering looking for another Dr. One thing for sure I WILL!<br>Disrespect to clients and mismanagement of the office and appointments. I wonder if the Dr. herself would be ok with making an appointment anywhere and waiting 2 hours...<br>I wont!
Office was great! The Doctor was on time and extremely thorough. I would highly recommend Dr Choan
My mother’s mri was done about A MONTH AGO and we still haven’t received the results. We scheduled a phone appointment between 8 to 9pm to discuss the results with the doctor and I even confirmed the appointment with the front staff and the doctor never called. This is ridiculous. My mother can barely walk and we want answers!

I got into an accident they scheduled an m.r.i. I told them that I could not make it because I had no other transportation. Michael Chen's nurse scheduled an appointment anyways. I still could not make it anyways and I told them that. Then they scheduled an appointment for their office, so I got off work early had to schedule a ride between 3 different co-workers to get there and get home only to find out that Michael Chen cancelled my appointment because I didnt get my m.r.i. that i told them I wouldn't be able to get. At any rate they never bothered to call to tell me that they cancelled my appointment. I didnt even charge them for it. As there policy for cancelling appointments in under 24 hours time unusually results in getting charged anyways. It is funny how it does not apply to them. I gave them one star only because that was the least I could do I wouldn't recommend them as a veterinarian as they lack the most basic professionalism usually found in even the worst hospitals in 3rd world countries. All in all in was a pretty terrible experience. Please if you value yours or your loved ones health do not go here.
I don't know what the previous reviewer was going on about but Dr. Choan is a wonderful, skilled and intelligent board certified neurologist who gets hghest makes from me.
dr. choan diagnosed me with multiple sclerosis. one month later i had a serious flareup. very painful to inhale, exhale. very difficult to breathe. severe nerve pain up and down my sides and upper back. extreme painful legs and more. dr. choan refused to see me for 6 month until my next follow up appointment in july 2019. i called twice. my primary dr. called. my nurse practioner called twice. dr. said no she will see me in 6 months. i felt so deserate. im 70. she is rude, sarcastic.
Very unhappy with the care received. I had a spinal cord injury improperly treated by her. Suffered greatly for over a year. <br><br>Found someone else who correctly diagnosed me.<br><br>I can't find a single thing to compliment her on. Not one
Dr Choan appears to be a competent physician. Unfortunately, her office staff is deplorable. I had my CT scans 2 weeks ago, and after leaving 3 messages in an attempt to schedule an appointment to go over the results, I was finally contacted by a very rude employee. She was abrupt and angry. I very clearly stated I simply needed Dr. Choan to discuss the results of my CT scans. I was placed on hold for 7 minutes. Once she finally came back online I informed her I was about to step into a meeting and was short on time to which she replied I was lying and making up excuses so that I wouldn't be placed back on hold. She kept asking me if the Dr. informed me as to whether or not she would discuss the results with me? I am an RN and would absolutely never treat a patient this way. I offered the option of having the Dr. simply call me with the results if an appointment was not an option. She actually hung up on me when I finally asked her to end her bitchy tirade and just schedule the appointment. I have now picked up the radiologists report and CD myself and will have to find a different neurologist to review the results. What a huge waste of time and money.
Dr. Choan is skilled and listens to every concern. Unfortunately the front office is incompetent and indifferent. They consistently run 3090 minutes late and there have been serious miscommunications and dropped balls with a referral, 3 weeks for an Rx refill, and not having my MRIs when I showed up for a followup. I have to reluctantly find a new doctor after 15+ years; Im finished with the front offices repeated mistakes and poor attitude.
Dr. Caroline Choan is a wonderful caring neurologist. I saw her last year and her diagnosis was pretty much spot on. The office staff seemed very proficient and polite. I found her very very interested in solving my issues as well as treating me with respect. I recommend her highly if you need do see a good neurologist.
Horrible experience with this office and it reflects on the doctors. No one ever calls you back and I cannot get a simple DMV health questionnaire filled out. DO NOT use these neurology services go to UCI. This place is awful!
