List of Digestive Care Center's Reviews
I ended up here (my bill actually says that its name is "Memorialcare Digestive Care Center" because my excellent physician Theodore Sy, M.D. does his colonoscopies here. As I said, Dr. Sy is great, but this place is not. This review is NOT for Dr. Sy who I recommend completely and wholeheartedly, it is for this garbage can facility and its staff. For a start, the facility looks like a scene from a movie set in a Russian Gulag with a single "old school" sliding glass window and wood and vinyl padded chairs straight from a 1970s James Bond villain's lair. It has all the warmth and charm of what the waiting room in that Gulag movie would be. Then there's the staff, they are cold, rude, and clearly unhappy. They act like a group of people who hate their job and wish that they could get up right then and there and leave it. During the entire intake process, I don't think that the person at the desk made eye contact with me even once - it was clear that she just wanted to process me as fast as possible and move on to the next one like I was just another unit on the production line. Dr. Sy and his staff were top notch and we got through the procedure nicely with probably one of the best and nicest pre and post-procedure nurses I have ever gotten. She was great. Yes, I got through the colonoscopy and all was well. Then came the post-procedure billing and all "heck" broke out. First, I was never told that that Dr. Sy just uses this facility, he doesn't run it (I wish he did, it would probably be a LOT better!). So... I was never told that I would be receiving a bill BOTH from Dr. Sy AND this depressing and poorly managed antiquated facility. As a result, when the bill for Dr. Sy's service popped up in my MyChart I immediately started making payments and thought that all was well. I was doing my part like a good citizen. So when the bills from "Memorialcare Digestive Care Center" started arriving in the mail I just thought, "Oh how nice of Dr. Sy's office to send me hard copy bills for my records too!" and moved on with my life since I was already paying them in the MemorialCare MyChart app on my computer and phone. Then the phone calls to my landline started coming. I explained to the lady on the phone that I was already paying "Fountain Valley" (where the Memorialcare billing department is) so it all was being taken care of. She informed me that they weren't being told so I encouraged her to contact "your people in Fountain Valley and find out why". When she told me, "We have nothing to do with them," I asked her why their (after all, they BOTH have "Memorialcare" in the sign over their door) internal system problems were my problem. Long story short, this began a long, stupid, ridiculous soap opera of insanity in which the incompetent staff at "Memorialcare Digestive Care Center" never ONCE explained their relationship with Dr. Sy OR explained to me that I was receiving bills from TWO completely separate business entities. It wasn't until I was turned over to their collection company (MNet Financial) that I finally spoke to a competent person who explained how the relationship worked and that getting a separate bill from the facility was very common in the horribly broken healthcare system (my words, not his) that we have in the United States right now. It stinks, but it's reality right now. So I am now making payments to MNet financial for this facility since I have exactly zero, zip, nada, zilch, NO confidence in "Memorialcare Digestive Care Center" and their unfriendly, unhelpful, and incompetent staff. I love Dr. Sy but as long as he is using this group of uncaring knuckleheads and their ugly disgusting facility, I will be going elsewhere for my colonoscopies in the future despite his top-notch expertise and great service. Dr. Sy if you are reading this I only have one word regarding "Memorialcare Digestive Care Center": Leave. Oh and two more: They stink more than the stuff that you work with daily. I am done with "Memorialcare Digestive Care Center" and I encourage you to never start with them - it's not worth the pain of banging your head against the wall having to deal with them or the aggravation of dealing with their incompetent staff. If your Doctor refers you to them or your colonoscopy Doctor uses them, ask for a referral to another Doctor. 1 Star rating and I wish that I could give them even less than that.
If you care about your loved ones, my advice to you is to STAY AWAY FROM THIS CENTER. If your doctor insists on using this facility, I recommend that you FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR. It's not worth it.I personally can't understand why a physician would use this facility unless they were receiving some kind of kickback. ???My husband had an endoscopy procedure, and I dropped him off at Suite 450. The first person we encountered was a morbidly obese woman who didn't seem like she wanted to be bothered. She wouldn't let me wait in their suite, but made me go down to the building lobby She had me fill out a form that included my name, my phone number, and I where I would wait. I checked the box that I would wait in the lobby for him. When my husband was finished, a woman who identified herself as "Nock" called me, but instead of bringing him down to the lobby where I was waiting, she asked if I was at the mall and could I PICK HIM UP IN THE NORDSTROM PARKING LOT 1) He was there from 7:30 to 9:45, so I doubt if the mall was even open. Regardless, I told her I would wait in the building.2) The woman who checked us in said nothing about a different pickup point.3) What's next? Are they going to buy a bus ticket and send him to Skid Row?I told her in no uncertain terms that I expected her to bring my husband down to the lobby and NOT IN THE MALL PARKING LOT. WHO DOES THAT?!!!i was getting nowhere with her. In my opinion she was RUDE, UNCIVILIZED, UNPROFESSIONAL AND JUST NASTY.At that point my husband's doctor called me and I begged him to please bring him down to the valet area next to where I had parked. He handed me off to someone named Maisha, and in my opinion she was not only RUDE, UNCIVILIZED, UNPROFESSIONAL, AND NASTY, but she was also CONDESCENDING.After going back and forth with her for about 15 minutes, she finally agreed to bring him down to the lobby. She was so DISGUSTING that she wouldn't even speak to me. I could see by her body language that she had an attitude. I'm just grateful that she didn't deliberately roll the wheelchair off of the ramp. After that short encounter with her, I believe she's CAPABLE OF ANYTHING. How can someone like that work in the healthcare field? How can any medical office DROP A PATIENT OFF IN THE PARKING LOT AFTER THEY'VE BEEN UNDER AND HAD A PROCEDURE?How can any medical center employ nurses who are so DREADFUL AND UNKIND?
I had a very pleasant colonoscopy experience with Dr Sy and office staff who made me feel very welcome, and at ease. The procedure was done quickly and office staff called me the next day to check on how I was doing. I highly recommend Dr Sy and his staffs.
Great service. The nurses including Donna, were so supportive, caring, and listened to my concerns. I'm a hard draw and sometimes my concerns are brushed off. Not here! Not only did they listen, but were able to find a vein the first time. Dr. Catherine Ngo also took the time to listen to my concerns on the procedure and went out of her way to make me feel comfortable. I highly recommend this place!

HORRIFFIC!!! This clinic does not deserve even 1 star. All this clinic cares about is taking your money. They do not care for their patients. I was in for a routine screening. Prior to the day of the procedure, I had confirmed with the clinic AND my insurance all details regarding coverage and ZERO copay due. Then on the day of my procedure, after all my prep- the clinic refused service unless I paid upfront. Stating "we cannot take you back or do the procedure without first receiving payment upfront." also telling me " it would be a shame if you went home since you have gone though all that prep!" They had already sent my ride home with all of my belongings, so I had to sit in the waiting room far past my procedure time until I figured out a way to pay them up front! ....Here is the best part of all- then when I was receiving my IV, moments away from going under anesthesia, one of the 3 nurses tells the doctor directly in front of me "sorry doctor for the delay, there was a problem with payment." Are you kidding me?! Am I in a horror movie??....I have never in my life been treated so horrifically. Needless to say, avoid this clinic at all cost!!
Excellent and caring process- nobody likes to have a colonoscopy but everything from the initial contact with MemorialCare Digestive Care Center to writing this review has been seamless. All of the personnel I met, including Elena, Joanna, Kelly, Russell, Dr Theodore Sy, and a couple I don't remember :)) in recovery and transport (I think they were Stephanie and Stacy) were just wonderful. The older I get the more I find most medical procedures stressful and anxiety producing but every single professional I encountered at the DDC was calming, reassuring and very attentive. I was asked repeatedly if there was anything I needed to help me feel more comfortable and I was even draped in 3 heated blankets! All of which really helped me feel cozy and cared for. I would highly recommend the DDC and your entire team. Thank you!
Care givers are great - bills are NOT!!The caregivers were great at this facility. I went in for a covered colonoscopy. My insurance has zero copayment for preventive colonoscopy. The caregivers were great, calling me to make sure I did the right thing, and the doctor himself was awesome. Then I got the bill.Doctor - $0 owed by meFacility $985 owed by me!! For a preventative screening!! I called to see if maybe they wrote the wrong code. The person in billing was unwilling to listen to me, and I called my insurance company. The person in billing was unwilling to listen to my insurance provider, who took the time to call them. The person in billing told me that "because you had polyps removed, you are being charged for a diagnostic procedure." Are you kidding me? While the doc was IN THERE, he, as common procedure, took out 3 teeny polyps. And because there were polyps to remove, the facility charged ME $985. That is AFTER insurance adjustment! The facility BILLED originally $2500. That is NOT the doctor, that is NOT the anesthesiologist. That is the price of 3 polyps while the doc was in there! I kid you not!!I talked to the woman in billing three times, and to no avail. So now my COVERED colonoscopy has me out of almost a thousand bucks from my pocket.Next time I'll find a different location, and I'm happy to keep the same doc.But I wont' go back to this location, who apparently thinks my sh#4 is gold.
I had a procedure done here a few weeks ago.The only issue I had with this place, was finding it. I had all of my paperwork that just had an address, so Suite number. Apparently the envelope all of my paperwork came in, the one thing I did not bring, was what had the Suite number on it. After walking the entire Womens Hospital, and ending up in the ER, the Admissions Office and making two phone calls from the unmanned visitors desk, I was told to go to the 4th Floor, and given the Suite number. All of that took a half hour, starting at 6:00am, so it was a good thing I was early for my appointment.Once here, I had to fill out some more paperwork, sign a few things, and then I was greeted by a nurse and taken into the back. I was given a gown, and changed, in my small area with a bed and curtains. Almost like an ER setup but a smaller area per each patient. The nurses started an IV and after a bit, I asked if they put happy juice in my IV because I was extremely relaxed, which is something not common for me. They laughed, and said no, that it was just fluids. They took my blood pressure, and asked me a few questions and checked back with me from time to time.My doctor was the one who performed the procedure, which I like. Once I was wheeled into the area where the procedure was done, there were two nurses and my doctor. They hooked me up to oxygen, and I remember talking, having trouble saying a word, and the nurse saying I am going to distribute your medication now (Which was a "Twilight" medication) and I think I said G Damnit when I couldnt get the word indicative out, music started blasting, a nurse commented about it being The Cars, and I was out! The next thing I remember was vaguely getting dressed in my cot, as I wasnt allowed to stand up... then I remember being wheeled outside where my mom pulled up to drive me home. I dont remember the doctor giving me a recap of my test, my mom being in the room, or anything. I do remember trying to talk, slurring, and again saying G Damnit because I couldnt make sense of my words, LOLEveryone was so nice here, very comforting and while I dont look forward to doing it again in three years, I would choose this place to do it again at that point if Im able. The room was really cold, which, sweating due to nerves I really appreciated.
10 years ago I came here and found the experience stressful because it was packed and little privacy and factorylike. They have made substantial improvements in the quality of the nurses and everything is well organized. Dr. Weinberg is terrific and let's you know exactly what to expect. He gave me my results immediately. Ashley the nurse made everything easy and comfortable. Staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. Highly recommend them!
