List of Jason A Liauw's Reviews
Neurosurgeon - Dr. Liauw reviewed my medical records and spent as much time as I needed going over my options. He was friendly, professional, and compassionate. I recommend him without reservations.
I am so thankful for Dr Liauw. We’ve had the experience working with Dr Liauw and he has been tremendously helpful putting us at ease during recovery.
Dr. Liauw is my HERO! I am 8 weeks post op from major spine surgery and 100% pain free for the first time in 10 years! He literally gave me my life back! Not only is he the absolute best at what he does, he is very kind, warm , compassionate and truly cares about his patients. As busy as he is he never once made me feel rushed and was always so attentive answering my many questions! All of his staff has been amazing as well! Always there for me no matter what I needed.
On 7/5/2018, I was sitting in a folding chair that broke and I fell down and my neck jolted back. 2 hours later, I was paralyzed from the chest down. Dr. Liauw was the on-call neurosurgeon at Saddleback Hospital and performed emergency surgery that evening. He removed the C6/C7 disc that had slammed into my spinal cord, and did a C5-T2 fusion. After 26 days in in-patient PT, I walked out with a walker. After 18 months, I plateaued but able to walk with a slight limp, and I got back to umpiring college baseball, and even snow skiing. I still have deficits, but those are all related to the spinal cord damage that occurred when the disc shot into my spinal cord. Without Dr. Liauw, I'm scared to think where I would be today.
Dr. Liauw performed my lumbar surgery exactly one year ago today. Prior to that, I had spent years with debilitating pain, likely a result of having spent years of running on hard pavements. I was never without my pain patches or creams. Before the surgery, I was treated by an anesthesiologist who helped manage my pain with nerve blocks and epidural injections. Yet, on family vacations and trips to amusement parks and museums, I needed up to 10 pain patches just to get through a single day. When I met with Dr. Liauw, he ran many tests. He told me I had lumbar nerve root disorder (sciatica), lumbar disc degeneration, and a narrowed spinal canal. He showed me my test images and carefully explained what I was seeing. He said that surgery would correct my conditions. Initially, I didn't want to take the surgery route. However, when I finally admitted that my chronic pain was adversely affecting my quality of life, I agreed to have Dr. Liauw perform the lumbar surgery. Today, I still can't believe how quickly and completely my body has been restored to its pre-chronic-pain condition. As soon as 2 months post-surgery, I told Dr. Liauw that it felt like I was walking on air. Occasionally, I did experience pain that required pain medication. But, as the days and months passed, I found I could do without pain medication; so much so, I forgot about it altogether. Before my surgery, I was hunched over when I walked, because I couldn't stand up straight without extreme pain. After surgery, even today, 1 year later: walking upright is no longer a problem. Friends who have had back surgery are the worst people to consult when you're considering having it. If they have a horror story to tell, they will make sure you understand every detail of "their" ordeal, and they won't quit until you are quaking with terror. I was reassured by Dr. Liauw and his staff--especially Alyssa and Taylor--that I was making the best decision in light of my condition. Dr. Liauw's entire team--including assisting surgeon Dr. Wang Teng and his staff--were consummate professionals. They made me feel secure in the fact that I had placed my health in their hands. Thanks to them, I am completely healed of my lumbar/back health issues.
Amazing care - quick, kind, personable and professional. Also, so easy to book an appointment through Klara and staff is so helpful
Dr. Liauw is an amazing doctor and mentor. I’m a current second year medical student at UC Irvine and I’ve had the privilege of shadowing on multiple occasions. He has always taken the time to explain difficult cases and truly cares for his patients.
I left a review but wanted to leave another one since my last surgery. Dr. Liauw essentially saved my life. He has performed surgery on me before and essentially was able to stabilize a fracture of my c3-c5. He did such a masterful job that within a year and a half I was completely normal. I was prior to that laying in a trail and paralyzed. Recently I fell and I fractured my c1-c2. He has to perform such a complicated surgery but 6 days after my accident I walked out of the hospital and have no neurological deficits. Dr. Liauw is one of the best and nicest human beings you will ever find. If you ever need the services of an expert for spinal surgery I can't recommend him more highly. He is an amazing person and an exceptional doctor. Thank you Dr. Liauw and team!
I suffered over 20 years with back pain. Turned down surgery from many doctors. After meeting with Dr Liauw, I knew I was in good hands. He performed a 6 level lumbar fusion that has changed my life in a way you can’t imagine. He was willing to listen and answer all my questions. His bedside manor is better than any neurosurgeon I have ever met. His credentials are very impressive as well. I thank him for giving me my life back.
Dr Liauw and his PAs Taylor and Haley were, and are, fantastic. I've had to visit several doctor's offices within the past 8 to 12 months not just for myself, but, for my wife as well. I can tell you that the concern they have shown towards me and to my wife has been amazing. They truly have gone above and beyond compared to all the other doctors. Now, specifically about Dr Liauw; I had significant pain not just in my middle lower back (L3, L4, L5 area) but, also that ran down first my right leg for a few months then switched over to my left leg. There were times when I had trouble walking. Anyway, one of the things I noticed immediately after surgery was there was no more pain in my legs. Understandably there was surgical pain in my back but, I could tell right away that he had resolved the issue in my back and my legs. I highly recommend Dr Liauw and his staff. They were great!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
