List of Larry Gersten's Reviews
Mr. Gersten sure seems well qualified for his job based on his credentials, but the reality is he could care less about his patience medical needs and does not appear to know what hes going the costly prompts are the same in his office and then he refers you to chiropractor or physical therapy and those practices figure out what the real issues are and focus on the problem. Getstern visit was costly and frankly not needed. He should just stay home and watch tv, he may achieve more by doing that than wasting a patients time and money.
He took away my mom‘s life. My mom walked into the hospital at 87 years old, she not only never walked again she was bedridden for four years until she died. He performed four surgeries in four weeks on an 87-year-old woman after breaking her pelvis in the original hip replacement surgery causing a massive infection at the surgery site that never left in ravaged her body. He’s smug and has little sensibilities towards patients.
Stay away from Dr. Larry Gersten. This review is long overdue. Six years ago Dr. Gersten did a really bad knee replacement on my boyfriend. He was in excruciating pain for months. In spite of doing all of the recommended PT his knee was never right again. To this day the replacement knee is much bigger than the other knee. See attached picture. Still now 6 years later, every time he walks it swells up and gets stiff. He ruined our lives. Dr. G has an Ok bedside manner but what good is that if your knee is screwed up for the rest of your life? I never write negative reviews but when a doctor ruins the life of your partner and you have no real recourse, this is all you can do. Maybe I can help save other people from this same fate. Think twice before having surgery with Dr. Gersten.
Cant say enough about the whole process. He never pressured me to go for the surgery after 3 years of doing shots I decided I had had enough. Really worried about going under since I have put on weight due to not being able to be active but he assured me that I would not be completely under. I was considering backing out but as all of the specialists cleared me for surgery, I went through with it. Best decision ever! Im at 120 degrees 3 weeks post op. I did get a Game Ready machine which is not covered by insurance but I highly recommend. Tony Bedi
Would definitely recommend Dr Gersten
I thought Dr. Gersten was great when I met him. Not so much anymore. Had TKR June 2016. From day one his PA (because I never saw him again) said it was the pain and clicking sensation was the device hitting each other as I walked. Kind of poor design, I thought. As if that was normal. Found out the prosthetic on top of my tibia is too large. Result: pain, constant "clicking" when I walk, pain in the opposite hip which is compensating for how I walk because of my knee. So unhappy.
I visited this guy, he recommended an injection subject to insurance approval,& the insurance didnt approve,he referred me for a bone density test,& the result was sent to him by the lab. After these procedures in order to discuss my case with him I called & left messages well over 20 times with no success, none were returned. This man thinks he is above the patients, referring to this person for a health solution is an insult to the patients,as he does not have a physicians etiquette.
Total right knee replacement Oct. 2019, skiing three months later! Dr. Gersten and his team were what I had hoped for. From consultation, evaluation, surgical procedure, physical therapy in home & out patient, to pain management Dr. Gersten and his staff were excellent! Saddleback Hospital I would give 5 Stars too. Dont wait too long, your quality of life should not be compromised!
Dr. Larry Gersten operated on my knee to repair a torn medial meniscus and on a shoulder for an extremely painful bone spur. I had suffered from both conditions for months before going to Dr. Gersten. I struggled thru severe pain for a long time as I do all I can to avoid contact with the medical system. I finally could take no more and went to Dr. Gersten. What a great stroke of luck that turned out to be. Dr. Gersten was very friendly, was not judgemental or condescending. He quickly and accurately made the diagnosis and was able to operate with a minimum of delay. Afterwards he suggested physical therapy and wrote a prescription for that treatment. I know this is standard procedure but he did not get offended or resentful when I told him that Id probably do my own PT. It has now been about 8 years since the surgery and my knee and shoulder could not be better! I am in my 60s now and I still jog regularly and do moderate weight training on occasion. I could not be happier with the results, especially for someone my age and after so many years. Thank you Dr. Gersten!
Dr Gersten saw me for back pain that ended up being a much more substantial injury than I expected. He helped me to understand the extent of the problem then worked through the typical challenges of seeing the right surgeons until I was set. Dr Gersten is the ultimate pro. From his expertise and demeanor to his understanding of the personal challenges an injury like this causes I cant recommend him high enough. When you are unsure of where to go for orthopedic surgeons this is your Dr. to see. I want to add that the staff at the MRI department was fantastic. Jessica and Beth handled all the insurance company hassles and distribution of the information to potential back surgeons with no stress to me and have a great attitude. Scott St. Clair

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
