Great dr very through very smart and kind!
Week of Feb6th-10th called the office twice about setting up an appointment; left info about myself and insurer. No call back as of Friday afternoon. By the phone answering message, I have the right phone number. For me, its rare that an office does not call back.
As a patient suffering from chronic GI issues with alarming symptoms, the last thing I need to hear from a dr is that my expectations are too high to want to find the root cause of my symptoms and improve the quality of my life/health. He is one of many who aren't willing to research and take time time to find the causation.
I had a telehealth first appt with Dr Zamost. First off, office staff were amazing and helpful in setting me up as a first time patient and giving me instructions on how to log onto the site at my appt. Dr Zamost is patient, he listened to all of my concerns and answered all my questions. Great advice, great experience! Top notch professional! Thank you Dr Zamost!
Shouted my mental health diagnosis across the entire office when handing me off to his nurse who never once looked at my face. Furthermore, he delayed care for my husband who we now know has stage four colon cancer. RUN OUT THE DOOR. Also, he spent less than six minutes with me during my office visit and told me false information about colon cancer running in the family- told me I didn’t have to worry about the fact that my grandmother and cousins battled extensive polyps and colon cancer. Nope. He maintains this does not correlate to colon cancer risk contradicting everything else I have ever read. He’s a terrible doctor and I hope he retires soon. For everyone’s benefit.
Just had my colonoscopy with Dr. Barry Zamost at their center on Worsham. For such an awful thing to do this doctor and the staff were absolutely fabulous and made it very comfortable. I would highly recommend this place. It is like a factory that is very well run. That is what you want for this procedure because they are excellent at what they do.
A medical practice doesn't get any better than this one. Dr. Zamost is tops, the facility is beautiful, parking is free and easy, high use of technology, speedy check-in, well-prepared for my visit. Wish all doctors were this competent and efficient.
I have used Dr. Zamost 3 or 4 times in the past 20 years for colonoscopies. He has found and removed polyps on each visit. Surgeries were uneventful with no complications. The office staff is very pleasant and takes the time to make sure any pre- or post-surgery instructions are understood. Dr. Zamost is a thorough interviewer and explains the expected procedure and recovery completely. From the perspective of a patient, I could not be more satisfied with Dr. Zamost and recommend him unconditionally. I am lucky to have both Barry Zamost (20 years)and brother, Marvin Zamost (GP) 25 Years), as my doctors since I moved to Long Beach.
SUMMARY I have read all the Yelp reviews. I must admit I don’t give Yelp reviews much weight in terms of picking a surgeon. Doctors can be nice and great individuals but often this has nothing to do with PATIENT OUTCOME. The outcome we are looking for is being CANCER FREE (dying some other way). So it is necessary to tell you my story so you can make this important assessment for yourself. My story below illustrates that you must have a competent and skilled doctor doing your procedure.

All doctors are not the same. If the surgeon misses things, or is not good at removing polyps, you could die. I believe Barry Zamost is a skilled and competent surgeon who I trust my life to. His staff is excellent. The office runs like a clock. .. And yes he also happens to be a great individual but this was not my primary consideration in picking him. MY STORY I had an HMO do a Colonoscopy at age 50 where they missed several large polyps. Five years later, under PPO insurance, I had a subsequent colonoscopy with the same group and it revealed several polyps an large flat polyps . It is likely that these polyps were likely not caught on the first Colonoscopy. These polyps were all pre-Cancer. I began looking for a new Gastroenterologist to do a subsequent colonoscopy to: 1) find other polyps that may have been missed; 2) Make sure no fragments were missed on polyps taken out; 3) no growth of old polyps removed; My friend had a knew Gastroenterologist who worked in the valley and asked him who he would have operate on him if he needed work done and he recommended Barry Zamost. 6 months later, Dr. Zamost did a Colonoscopy and found that the original large polyps were not fully removed, also he found new polyps that were likely not caught on the first 2 procedures. He also recommended repeat procedures first 1 year and 2 years apart.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
