List of Diana Yao, Md's Reviews
I can not recommend this doctor, she is very inconsiderate of her patients. Don't waste your time and go take an appointment somewhere else.
Great experience with a very caring and knowledgeable Dr and team. Highly recommend!
Dr. Yao is a truly excellent gastroenterologist. I am a retired professor from Cal State Long Beach, and I had my colonoscopy just yesterday. I'm ashamed to say that a few low Yelp reviews almost had me rescheduling to change doctors, even though the ranting reviewers were mostly upset with the office staff (and policies) of Long Beach Gastro, not the doctor. First, I had only positive interactions with Long Beach Gastro's office staff (as well as the over-the-top caring and professional MemorialCare Outpatient Surgery Center staff, including Real, Natalie, Susie, and Johanna). Second, Dr. Yao was friendly and down-to-earth, checking in with me before the procedure. Afterward, she came out to go over my results with me (and to praise my prep job--avoid foods with seeds!). She did find and remove a tiny polyp and sent it for biopsy, but she told me that she was already certain that it was benign. Me: "How do you know that?" The Doctor: "I've been doing this for 30 years, and I can tell based on the overall health of your colon and the size of the polyp." (At least that's what I can remember her saying when looking back through the fog of my anesthesia meds. I'll get the official lab results next week.) As she walked the floor, it felt to me that the entire staff likes and respects her. I found her to be friendly and very professional. I feel fortunate that she was in charge of my colonoscopy. P.S. Here's what the Gastro website says about her education (It's impressive.): "She received her undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She received her medical degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of California, Irvine as well as completing a year as Chief Resident. She also completed her GI fellowship at UC Irvine. Dr. Yao is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. She is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology. Dr. Yao joined Long Beach Gastroenterology Associates in 1996. Her primary interests in the practice are general GI consultations and colon cancer screening with extensive experience in endoscopy and colonoscopy procedures." She rocks.
She’s an excellent doctor. Very caring and knowledgeable. She’s an expert in her field.
Unfortunately I have no choice but to leave a poor review without ever having seen the Doctor. I made an appointment with Dr Yao's office after having received a referral from my primary care physician. I waited more than two months for my appointment date to arrive. When i showed up this morning in the office, i was told they did not accept my medical insurance despite my having provided them with an insurance ID number and Group number when i booked the appointment. I also conducted an online pre-check and again provided my insurance information. What if I had had an urgent issue that needed be addressed? This is amateur level failure and is unacceptable. If you have an appointment with them, my suggestion is to triple check your insurance details with them when booking the appointment. The procedure i needed has now been delayed by months.

Thank you for nothing.

She is superb, caring and thorough!
I like Dr. Yao but the office staff in scheduling is lacking follow up to phone calls. I called 4 days in a row before someone finally called back to reschedule and the original appointment is still on the books. Not so sure how organized they are but I'm not happy with their lack of professionalism.
So disappointed. I've been going to Dr. Yao for at least 10 years. I've loved her office manners, until 2 years ago. I have diverticulitis, and I have had about 5 feet of colon removed because of it. She has done several colonoscopies and all went well. 2 years ago I was having some issues, and thought I may be getting diverticulitis again. I went in to see her, and she was quite rude and dismissive. I chalked it up to a bad day, and figured I should not try to visit unless I felt like I was having problems. In June, the night before I left on vacation, I developed diverticulitis, and called the office wanting to get some antibiotics. I know when I'm getting an attack, I've had this for over 30 years. The office staff was quite rude, and said that since I hadn't been to the office for 2 years, they would not prescribe antibiotics for me. I would first have to see the doctor. First appointment in October. I am now having another attack, and once again, they will not give me antibiotics because I haven't been to the office in two years. (I just got back from vacation.) I asked for an appointment, first one in December, but they will not give me a prescription -- kind of a Catch 22. I tried to explain my situation, and Claudia was quite abrupt and kept repeating that I had not been there in two years. I am seeking a new gastrointerologist. I don't know if Dr. Yao has had a personality change or if her staff is unfeeling. I do know that if I didn't have a friend in Hawaii that is a doctor who phoned in a prescription for me, I would be in a terrible situation - possibly having a burst of my colon. I do know that I will not be giving any referrals to this doctor's office. Too bad I used to really like her.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
