List of Lars H Hertzog's Reviews
I travel from the East Coast to see Dr. Hertzog and the medical team here. They take excellent care of my vision needs and provide excellent patient care.
Booked an appointment for a third class medical renewal 4 months in advance, they called me 3 days before the appointment (and a week before my medical expires) to tell me that the assistant who does them just left for a month-long vacation and they had to cancel my appointment. I've been training for a CFI checkride for 8 months, it was supposed to happen in a week, and this has completely destroyed my training schedule. Won't be back.
Great guy! Great Ophthalmologist! Very knowledgeable; trustworthy; efficient! I trust him.
There are some positive reviews of Lars Hertzog, and that is good. However, that was NOT my experience at all. And yet, I put up with it for five long years: He seems competent in what he does but his bedside manner is very iffy indeed. I was NEVER made to feel comfortable asking him questions, legitimate questions meant to enhance my knowledge about my condition. His responses or lack thereof would make me feel very uncomfortable, as if I was violating some sacred divinity. My inquiries were met either with silence, or tangible irritation, or monosyllabic responses. I take an active interest in my health and this does not suit me at all! Physicians should gauge their patients’ education level and appreciate that questions asked are genuine and not meant to challenge their medical authority! One time as I was speaking to the front desk, a livid woman stormed out of his office demanding to see someone else and complaining that he had berated her for being late to her appointment!
Exceptionally kind and compassionate physician. Takes his time and gets to know the patient. Thorough in explaining symptoms and diagnosis. I’m confident I have a surgical specialist should I need one in the future. He has a friendly staff as well. I’ve been with Eye Physicians since their old days on Cherry Street in Los Al. They are now in a great location in Long Beach. Ample parking and within an ultra high tech, modern, three floor facility.

Excellent results. Dr. Hertzog did an excellent job with my husband's eyes. and now I too have great vision. Long wait times like any MDs office, but worth the wait!
Sent Lars a letter to his nohome hoping he would look into his staffs behavior and was ignored. Many doctors who live in park estate suggested I write him at his home. They were shocked that he chose not to contact me. Oh well!.
Incompetent staff! Given incorrect information from Tina, Indria, Elsa and others etc. Day of surgery called with questions regarding what I could consume before procedure. Could not receive an answer from anyone. Was put on hold for twenty minuets. only to resort to contacting Oscar the CEO for assistance. Second call from Oscar I was advised to take my business somewhere else. because I yelled at his staff ! sadly the patient has no validity. this is after I had taken medication and set up my transportation etc. feel bad for Dr. Lars Hertzog. Disenchanted with Dr. Martinez, tried to sell me different lenses for $3,450.00 each plus $1,600.00 for my astigmatism. Told him I did not want a Ferrari just a Porsche at seventy three basic lenses good enough. I felt I was at a used car dealership. Also the rhetoric was beyond acceptable. Bottom line If you want malarkey, I urge you to see them. If you have a brain this is not the place for you. They do not value intelligence! Indria tells you one thing and does another( she hates driving from Ontario to her job) too much malarkey ! Tina does not listen, told me she does not make the appointments with memorial care. Memorial care expressed that the doctors do the appointments not the center. who's on first. Kari Joseph gives lip service spoke to her with issues how the front office does not identify themselves when answering the phones or advise you on basic protocol, which then turns into you having to make a second appointment . I am shocked beyond! Hope to speak with Lars and get his perspective.
I come to Dr. Hertzog for my Aviation Medical exam all the way from Torrance. He's a no-nonsense AME who is in an office without any sick people. I don't like going to an AME where I sit in the waiting room with people coughing and sniffling, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. He has reasonable pricing and keeps appointments without the usual wait to see a doctor. My only regret is that the FAA vision test is done on a machine, where you look through the plastic holes. I constantly feel like I fog the lenses making the critical vision test difficult and stressful.I plan to continue to come in to see this AME as long as he continues to maintain his practice.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
