David E Tourgeman's Online Review Report Card

When I was searching for a fertility clinic 4 years ago, I wanted to make sure I found the right fertility doctor. I read many great reviews for Dr. Tourgeman at HRC Fertility. More importantly, Dr. Tourgeman was extremely compassionate, personable, and treated me with the upmost respect. The first thing I let him know when I saw met him was that I was nervous and sensitive - I always get like that with my annual pap and I was scared thinking of the shots that I was going to give myself for my egg retrieval. Dr. Tourgeman was very gentle in each exam and he even prescribed me subcutaneous injections, which were smaller needles and much more doable (I feared the intramuscular injections that are over an inch long!). When my husband and I were ready for our frozen embryo transfer in August, that process was so smooth and thankfully we got pregnant on our first transfer. I know a lot of that comes from a skilled doctor who made it look so easy! We are forever grateful for the help of Dr. Tourgeman who was there throughout our journey to parenthood and helped us start our family.

My experience with Dr. Tourgeman spans over 4 years, when I first came in to see him about an egg freezing process. I had started with another clinic (Pacific Fertility) who completely mishandled my care. They started me on a cycle without doing any blood work, and wouldn't answer my calls about switching prescription brands to ones covered by my insurance. I came to Dr. T in a state of crisis, and he took my care very seriously and more importantly, handled it with the utmost compassion. He ended being able to save my cycle. Four years later, I went back to him to put those frozen eggs to use, and again, I was met with the same professionalism and kindness that I had learned to to expect from him and his office. While it was not an easy journey, with plenty of hardships and disappointments along the way, I felt like I had a partner with exceptional expertise and empathy along the way. In the end, Dr. Tourgeman along with his amazing staff (Mei and Maria) were able to help us get us results we came for. We couldn't be happier, and I would (and have many times) highly recommend him for your fertility treatment.

I highly recommend Dr. Tourgeman and his staff. I went for egg freezing, which was not an easy process, and they made it a positive experience for me. From day 1, Dr Tourgeman was patient, informative and was comfortable/easy to talk to. Their assistant coordinator, Vivian, was truly the best and treated me more than just her job. She was understanding, supportive and all around made my experience pleasant as she truly went above and beyond to make me feel cared for. I am grateful for Dr. T and Vivian (and the whole team there) and had to write a review so others were aware of their caliber of service and professionalism. Dr. Tourgeman is the best doctor I have had the pleasure to know - and I am happy to report that I am pregnant after two rounds of IVF and our first embryo implant.The highlights:- Dr. Tourgeman has the best bedside manner - the absolute best. I trust him to be honest and direct, but in a way that calms anxiety and brings focus to the path ahead. I looked forward to seeing him multiple times a week during the IVF cycles. He wasn't just my doctor, but a key member of my support team helping me to navigate what became an emotionally and physically taxing process. He never seemed rushed, always taking time to discuss my questions and concerns. He presents his perspective with experience and facts, but also an open-mindedness that is often missing from the fertility/pregnancy space. Honestly, he makes me feel like I am his favorite patient, even though I am sure that many of us share this feeling given his exceptional care.- The office runs on time! This was important to me as I was keeping everything under the radar from work. I was able to make early morning appointments around 7:45/8:00am and count on being in and out under 25 minutes.- The entire office staff is knowledgeable and supportive. Like I said, I looked forward to my visits and will be sad to leave HRC after 6+ months of frequent visits. They were also incredibly diligent (and patient) dealing with my unbelievably difficult insurance. Maria, Vivian, Wendy, Jessica - everyone has made this experience a positive one. Our family will be eternally grateful to all of them.To those of you considering fertility treatment, or maybe thinking about it for the future - DON'T WAIT. I walked into Dr. T's office at 27, without ever having tried to become pregnant naturally, but with a gut feeling that something was off for my body. After a few tests, Dr. T confirmed that my fertility didn't match my age and IVF was a wise course of action. Worst experience ever with HRC and Dr. Tourgeman. Left feeling like I was just a money making thing and it's just biz versus caring about the patients. They overcharged me for my consultation visit and added a charge for a vaginal exam I never got. Luckily I read my bills and caught it. When I called to try to get it fixed with billing, it was a nightmare with no one getting back to me or trying to fix it or even calling me back. The accounting people would tell me they would look into it and call me or email me back and nothing multiple times. I guess they were really hard up and didn't want to give me my money back on a service I never got.It was mine boggling. I had to constantly keep calling even though they confirmed to me on the phone they realize I never got any physical or vaginal exams (just talked in his office for 10 minutes) but they wouldn't fix it. After being frustrated from having to follow up so many times about their error, I called Dr. Tourgeman to let him know and also tell him how difficult it was for me to get information from someone else in his office that he referred me to, and he couldn't care less and totally blew me off on the phone. This guy really doesn't care about people or helping them. What a nightmare and have told all my friends who are looking for great clinics to stay away from HRC.

I'm not even sure where to begin. Dr. Tourgeman, to me, is a miracle worker. He is the kindest, smartest, most thoughtful, careful, creative and patient doctor working in reproductive medicine today. In a field where many doctors want women to just be quiet and do what they tell them, Dr. Tourgeman actually listened to my questions and explained his methodology -- a methodology that beats everyone else in the business, I promise. He gave me a family -- two beautiful children -- when every other IVF specialist said I was a lost cause. I have seen doctors all over Los Angeles and New York, in Chicago and London. No one compares to Dr. T.My issue was low ovarian reserve, which meant the big academic factories like Cornell and private facilities like SCRC quickly pushed me out of their programs, when I only got three or four eggs per cycle. Watching every doctor and nurse's face fall when they look at an ultrasound broke my heart, FOR YEARS. It was grim and funereal and I was miserable. Until I found Dr. Tourgeman, who only cared about getting healthy embryos, not about maintaining his statistics, like these other places. He figured out the protocol that worked. He remained pragmatic and optimistic. It's never exactly a pleasure to go through an IVF cycle (I've done 16), but Dr. T makes it straightforward, quick and cheerful, under the circumstances. I never had to wait more than 10 minutes to be seen. He runs his practice like a family, and everyone is friendly and kind. You schedule an appointment for ultrasound and bloodwork -- rather than just show up and wait an hour, like at Cornell -- and they're always on time. I've heard other IVF facilities referred to as "the DMV of sadness," and I lived that for years. Until Dr. T.I would recommend any woman facing fertility problems go to HRC, but I'd especially recommend it for women who've been through the ringer with other places, who have bodies that don't fit the one-and-done 12+ egg retrievals that the bigger places want to see. Dr. T is a good doctor, a good man, and, really truly, a miracle worker.
