Ucla Radiation Oncology's Online Review Report Card

At 74 years old, I was diagnosed with low-mid grade prostate cancer. After extensive research regarding the treatment of prostate cancer, and even though I live in Texas, I selected the radiation treatment provided by UCLA-Health. They utilized the Mridian accelerator by Viewray. Starting with Dr. Kishan, his staff, and the radiation techs... everyone was professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. I would give them all 10 stars, if that was an option. My treatments began in October 2023, and 8 months later, I have had little or no side effects. Thank you all very, very much for your excellent care.

As a retired physician and former medical school Dean I feel comfortable in evaluating the quality of medical care. Since one in every 7-8 men will eventually have prostate cancer I thought it might be useful to comment on my recent experiences at the UCLA health care system. Most of my practice era colleagues are now retired and I relied on my youngest son for a recommendation. He is now the Section Chief for Interventional Radiology at UCLA and he referred me to Drs. Wayne Brisbane (Urology), Dr. Albert Chang (Fiduciary and OAR spacer placement), and Dr. Amar Kishan (Radiation Oncology - Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy) at UCLA. I found the care by these physicians and their entire team to be exceptional. The equipment at UCLA is top notch and I would highly recommend consideration of this facility to anyone needing evaluation and management of this condition. It was certainly worth traveling to CA. Dr. Kishan has a number of presentations available on YouTube that I found helpful in making decisions regarding care. The evaluation and management of prostate cancer has changed dramatically since I was in active practice. I would like to formally express my appreciation to the professionals at UCLA - they have a highly developed system for providing comprehensive and responsive health care.

Dr. Chin is great, the radiation department staff are awesome, very caring and respectful.. the staff has a positive attitude all the time.. they are easy to talk to.. I have 3 more days until I'm finished with my neck cancer treatments.. it has been a long 32 days of treatment.

don't live in California. My medical lab results was high and diagnosed cancer by three Dr in three hospitals. I chose to get radiation treatment in UCLA. Dr Amer U Kishan is polite and professional. He save my life.

Super professional and experienced staff that treat the patients with kindness and dignity. My doctor for a one shot radiation on a tiny benign meningioma was Dr. Tania Kaprealian, a real pro. Highly recommended!!!

Completed the feedback form UCLA requested. Never heard back. i guess it just looked politically correct for their PR rep to respond to the review. All show, no substance.

Here's my experience with UCLA Radiation Oncology; draw your own conclusions. My mother was diagnosed with a Stage 4 brain tumor in June 2016. We lived in Las Vegas, but I was desperate to get a second opinion at the illustrious UCLA Medical Center. I wrote a detailed letter to Dr. Tania Kaprealian and included MRI and PET scan reports and was given an appointment in mid July. I was told it would be a flat $800 private pay. Two days before our flight, UCLA called and said Dr. Kaprealian was busy and that we should be ready to pay $2000 to see an oncologist and a neurologist. I flew my mother to LA, paid the fee in full, and during a brief appointment with two rushed doctors was told that a biopsy was necessary before UCLA could provide any medical assistance. The procedure and recuperation time would take at least four weeks. (My mother had been given a month to live from initial diagnosis.) I received the report and flew my mother back home; she died on July 27. Then in October 2016, we received a collection notice for almost $800. It was only until I wrote a letter to the COO/CFO of UCLA's Dept of Radiation Oncology, promising to file a complaint with the CEO of the UCLA Medical Center, as well as the California Attorney General that I received a call saying that a mistake had been made and would be rectified. I never did receive a call, an email, a letter, or any type of communication from Dr. Tania Kaprealian; I guess she was quite busy for two years or so.

Dr. Cameron (and all of UCLA) are the best in the world. I had half a lung removed, as well as some other tissue, and radiologists who look at my x-ray and think I never had a lobe removed. He is a starter on the all-star team.
