I have been going to Doctor Bateman for many years. On April 04, 2023 I went to him to find out why I was in near constant pain. He is very empathetic and listens to his patience carefully. This visit after carefully reviewing the document I provided to describe my discomfort. He ordered x-rays to confirm his diagnosis that nothing was broken or fractured. This may seem unremarkable to most patients but having gone to him for many complex health issues with his diagnoses being remarkably accurate, I trust in his judgement. Just recently, I had to be placed on medication for high blood pressure. He worked with me to find the dosage and the medication that worked for me. I am one of those patience who isn't able to tolerate medication very well so this is no easy task. Thank you, Dr. Bateman

In my view, either too busy to care or simply not a good Dr. If you have a choice, take it, and go elsewhere.

Long waits, short visits with the doctor, an overall poor experience every time. Just waited 1 hour for a video consultation to be told it will be another 15 minutes. I suggest you find different doctors

My entire family of four has seen Dr. Scott Bateman from the time when he was located in the Malibu Country Mart to now with UCLA. He always treated us respectfully and never once spoke over any of us, unlike another reviewer, including when I encouraged my children (boy and a girl) starting at age 12 to speak for themselves to Dr. Bateman. By the time they were 16, they met with him privately, and neither of them (I was told by other parents) needed assertiveness training. They loved Dr. Bateman, said he listened to them, asked them questions, and made them feel well taken care of. To give you an idea of what an excellent family physician he is at my annual physical a month ago, Dr. Bateman reviewed every medication with me that I was using, addressing any of my concerns then. He also asked if I had any new medical concerns, and he patiently listened to every one, then discussed options and whether a referral was needed or it was treatable in his office. I never feel rushed in his office. Dr. Bateman over the years has demonstrated himself to be time and again a caring, patient, thoughtful family physician. There has been a substantive change of office staff for the better from a few years ago. The staff are all caring, professional, and sterling in their performance from a few years ago. With the UCLA online patient website, it's now fast and easy to self-schedule appointments with Dr. Bateman. I still call from time to time, and the phone system has improved tremendously from a few years ago, with rarely a dropped call. Since the Woolsey Fire, the one time a call was dropped (when my cell signal failed), his office called me back!

His daughter Ashley who is also a doctor at this practice is lovely. Today was my first time seeing Dr Scott Bateman and it will be my last. He was incredibly dismissive, spoke over me, was forceful with his evaluation, rude and incredibly unprofessional.I will NEVER see this doctor again. He acted like I was annoying him when he asked me to describe my symptoms (couldn't even talk to him because he was too busy talking over me and telling me to "be quiet" so he could tell me how I was feeling instead of listening to what I was saying). He disregarded my medical history, medications and what I was doing leading up to this visit as unimportant info which is the whole reason why I had to come back in the first place (the prior visit to his office left me with no resolve, still incredibly sick and out of work for 2 weeks). Total waste of time, money and insurance! Ridiculous my insurance is going to have to pay for a visit like this. If he's that unhappy being a doctor then retire. No one deserves to be treated this way or dismissed.

Dr. Bateman is a nice man, but I am so bitter about the way he cared--or didn't--for my mom. He under-treated an ulcer on her leg that she had for nearly a year and could have had horrible consequences because she had a prosthetic shoulder and infection is very dangerous. It was her dermatologist who, horrified, referred her to the wound care center at UCLA where they had it cleared up in three weeks. He was also lackadaisical about several of her problems and I think it has to do with her age--she was in her early 80's. It really did seem like his heart wasn't at all in his profession. Then, in March, she died from complications from an infection (that he wasn't treating) and I called his office to tell them she was gone. Not a phone call, not a voicemail, not even a condolence form letter. Bah. Can't recommend him at all.

Dr Bateman was recommended to me by my dermatologist Dr Janet Vafaei in Malibu It's hard to find a good internist in Malibu but I trust her so I chose the older dr Bateman (apparently his daughter is also at UCLA Malibu)Let me tell you.... He's the best! My dermatologist noticed I had hair loss and sent me to him for some blood workTurns out I have thyroid issues The UCLA office of dr Bateman isn't in the country mart anymore but it worked out great to go to their nearby office Office was clean and organized

If I could give zero stars I would! What an awful experience and completely disgusted by this doctor. To make a long story short I made it clear that I was new to the area and looking for a reliable practice that I could grow with. This doctor saw me three times within 3-4 months and prescribed medications to me... When I called to have them refilled and wanted some clarification on the medication I was told that he could not find me in the system and he would have to see me again to refill.. When I explained that I am a cash paying client and HE was the doctor that prescribed the medications in the first place... And it seemed silly to rebook another appointment ...making it a $300 visit he told me that I was just another voice over the phone...and that he is too busy to deal with me. Nice! Great customer service! Couldn't believe how rude he was! Not to mention the staff at the office are all students and have no idea what's got on...so it's a hassle to even get an appointment! Putting this doctor on blast ...what a horrific experience in the medical profession . Totally disgusted

Dr. Bateman himself is a fine doctor but I'm switching because of continued problems with booking appointments. No one seems to pick up the phone. This last time, the phone system cut me off before I was able to speak to a person. When I called back, the phone system played piped-in music then eventually switched me to what I thought was going to be a real person, only to have that real person switch me to the piped in music. Never once did I talk to a live person. After 15 minutes of this, I hung up and called my insurance company for a list of providers. If this was the first time it happened, no big deal. But it's becoming a trend.
