I signed a contract for $78.50 per month and they increased prices without telling me. When I went to cancel my membership, they charged me for 2 months instead of their 30 day cancellation policy. When I complained, they stood by their charges. Terrible customer service & gauging....

At first, 80 bucks seemed like a lot for a gym, especially when I was shopping around in Dec. and Monterey Rec had their yearly special and a yearly membership would've been around $35 p/month if paid up front. However, Montage is a month-to-month membership, and that worked in my favor. I was looking for a place to do lap swimming and on most days I would be able to find a lane for myself. Once in a while you'd get young people in the evenings who wanted to hang out in the pool and not get a work-out in. But if you wait enough in the hot tub, eventually a lane opens up. Then on weekends, if you go too early, you get the older people who walk in the pool really slowly for a looong time taking up most lanes. Other than that, Montage is clean enough, has saunas in the locker rooms, and the weights are always properly put away and well organized. I didn't really use the cardio machines since it's Monterey and I'd rather go outdoors for my walks, but they always looked clean and working, so I assume they're alright. Anyway, I love this gym.

Buyer beware...been a member for 10 years and facilities have considerably gone downhill. Women's showers ALWAYS DIRTY with mold in the grout, hair everywhere in the stalls and VERY low water pressure. Amenities such as the sauna, jacuzzi and swimsuit spinner, workout equipment ALWAYS seems to be broken and takes FOREVER to repair. Facility does not make any adjustments to your monthly dues for the lack of broken amenities. Also does not notify you on monthly dues increases. Staff at front desk always seem to be doing nothing, however there are maybe 1 or 2 staff members that are great. For the amount they charge for initiation fees and monthly dues this facility is NOT up to par...MUCH improvement is needed to get your money's worth.

Long wait, however, they will get you in line and tell u an approximate time and they will courtesy call you. The shopping center is directly across its parking lot. The service is impeccable. Great staff, and caring practitioners. Highly recommend them.
