List of Harlan Matles's Reviews
Dr. Matles was 'BY FAR' the best Dr. my Mom & I both received EXCELLENT medical care from... for 12 years, until he changed his practice. He had all the attributes one would want from a Dr. (& way more). I sincerely think he kept my mother well and alive through her late 80's, & I am grateful beyond measure for that!! Dr. Matles: please let me know if you ever return to to a practice that takes Medicare. Your friend & former patient, Laura W.
Mine is only a personal reference. I have know him since he was a small child, and he grew up as my son's best friend. He has always been a nice decent honest person. You would be luck to have him as your personal physician.
I just learned that Dr. Matlas will be restructuring his business, and I will not be able to join him. At first I was shocked, and am still disappointed. HE IS undoubtedly THE BEST doctor on the planet. A young man who is as sharp and focused as he is kind and thoughtful. For those of you who get to keep him, you are not only lucky, but blessed. Doc, I am very disappointed to lose you, but I sincerely wish you the best in your new venture. You are indeed truly one of the great ones, and I appreciate you, and loved having you as my doctor.
As my first Yelp review ever (and possibly only), I give Harlan my utmost rating and respect as a physician. He has been my primary care physician for almost five years. Harlan is one of the smartest and most intuitive physician. He will go above and beyond with preventative care as needed. He cares deeply about his patients and is a great person to talk to in general. Love this guy.
I am editing this review because of my unhappiness with Dr. Matlas and his decision to go concierge medicine. Concierge medicine is only something the very, very affluent can afford. I can understand wanting to leave the big Menlo Medical Clinic. However, I can't understand transitioning into elite medical care financially unavailable to 99% of residents here. But below is my first review which still stands true for his medical competence and intellect. Dr. Matlas is an EXCELLENT physician. He is very intelligent, personable and an all around excellent physician. He does not over prescribe medications or tests, is an excellent problem solver and a compassionate human being. You can't go wrong here!
Excellent physician. I have had him as my doctor for many years and I have never had someone so diligent, responsive and dedicated. We are very, very fortunate to have Dr. Matles as our physician. I am a very busy professional and I have always had a generous response from both his office and the Menlo Medical Clinic. I am blessed to have Dr. Matles upon whom I can count.
Dr. Matlas is an excellent physician, and I have great confidence in his ability. Very competent, experienced and thorough, he lacks the arrogance and condescension of other doctors and is receptive to new ideas and is less ossified in his approach to treatment. Many doctors themselves see him, which is an obvious testament to his ability. It's clear he enjoys his work, which is part of the reason he's so good at it. With his ability he could have gone into a more lucrative branch of medicine, but it's clear that he enjoys the challenge and variety of internal medicine. I consider myself lucky to be able to see him.
I've never had a doctor like Dr. Matles. His knowledge, attention to detail, empathy and responsiveness are unsurpassed. I can totally trust his opinion and find his coverage to be pretty broad; i.e. he doesn't just refer to specialists. When I did an expat assignment in India, he identified all I needed to do to prepare myself for the experience. When specialists are needed, he makes it happen. I had a ski accident and he spent his personal time getting me in to see the best specialist around. This is not the first time I've had this kind of experience either. Years ago I had a need to see another specialist in an emergency fashion and I was in seeing the doctor the same day. He's been my doctor now for nearly ten years and I feel very fortunate to have someone like him overseeing my care for the long term.
Dr. Matles is by far the best and most caring Primary Care Physician I've ever had. I live in South Bay but don't mind the drive to his Menlo Park office to receive the best possible care. I will definitely recommend him without any hesitation. His staff are also friendly and responsive.
Dr Matles is clearly an outstanding primary care physician. Very knowledgeable, listens to all of your issues and answers questions (many of which are certainly dumb questions that he has heard 100's of times), and has a great calming quality. My only issue is that he has a ton of patients and it is hard to get in to see him for routine visits except for months in advance. He does hold times for short visits for more urgent visits. I guess that's what happens when a lot of people want to have him for a doctor. I am glad to have him as mine!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
