List of Ahmad Shaban's Reviews
Keeping it simple. Dr Shaban is a straight shooting, no BS partner in my health management of a pretty severe situation. He's been very professional. personal ( we don't know each other well) about my questions and two procedures. I can't at all agree with the low (unfair?) ratings and comments about he and his staff here on Yelp. Its just not been my experience at all. Mostly I just want to say THAT... I recommend him without reservation.
The Doctor seems competent and okay. He's got a vibe about him that says "I'm not woke. I'm not progressive. I believe in million year old traditional family values" kind of about him but that's not necessarily a reflection on his surgical skills. His bedside manner however is. He's dismissive. He's got the last millennia attitude that Drs used to have in the 50's to 90's. When they thought they were gods. Before insurance reform. Before their income dropped by half. He still has the 'tude. In fact. His whole office reeks of it. Truth is - he was competent on the procedure enough. His choice of anesthesiologist is horrible (the guy seemed drunk or on drugs when he finally (3 minutes before the procedure) timidly and reluctantly introduced himself to me. (I sensed some major homophobia vibes again but dismissed them). Anyway. Procedure was ok. I was supposed to forget the whole procedure but the anesthesia (ie: date rape drug) didn't do its job and I recall a lot about the procedure and the roughness of the Dr and the excruciating pain and panic that they had all hoped they would have erased from my memory. Fail. The dr chipped a tooth with his rough handling of the procedure and he was extremely abrasive and ballistic in his surgery. But. Believe it or not. That wasn't the worst part of the overall experience. The worst part. The total %^*] who claims to be the office "controller". (Lol!! Like his stoooopid little 1983 office is a Fortune 500 firm or something)Anyway. He must be personally attached to this lady who runs his books since her attitude is one you would find is someone "sleeping with the boss". She takes her tasks way too personally and seriously for any normal employee. Plus. She is absolutely vindictive and ferocious about collecting even the smallest amount of money. Like the office is desperate to pay off a malpractice lawsuit or something. She is unreal and has zero concern for patients. Zero tact or decorum and breaks HIPAA laws for breakfast. Do yourself a favor and AVOID THIS DOCTOR AT ALL COSTS!!!!!
My second visit to Dr. Shaban and staff. Very friendly and welcoming. Thorough prep for what was coming, what to expect, and a prescient reminder that I wouldn't remember most of the visit. The procedure was a snap, to me, as was my first visit. The office followed up with me the next day to make sure I was ok, and if I had any questions. A side effect of the anesthesia is you don't remember things while under its influence. So they very patiently went back through what I am sure they tried to tell me the day before. My results were very good, and so it will be another five years before my next review. Thank you Dr. Shaban for taking great care of me, and to all your staff for their professionalism and easy manner......
Dr Shaban treated me 40 years ago when I was diagnosed with autoimmune liver disease which at the time was not very common. I was a young mother and very sick. When I miscarried in my second pregnancy the obgyn told me I should not try for more children due to the severity of my illness. I was crushed. During that hospital stay Dr Shaban notice my name on admission while doing his rounds and stopped in to check on me and told me “you absolutely can have more children, trust me” I did. Today I have 2 grown sons and 5 grandchildren and I always reflect on those few moments in time when a doctor took the time to comfort me and give me hope and changed the path of my life, and I am forever grateful to him.
I am glad a friend recommended Dr. Shaban for my GI procedures after I relocated to California. I know I am in good hands when I go to his office. He is an excellent physician as well as a person who cares about his patients beyond a given procedure and is available in case of emergencies. His staff are professional and friendly. I'll remain a patient at Dr. Shaban's Institute and recommend him to my friends without hesitation!
I am glad a friend recommended Dr. Ahmad Shaban to me for a needed procedure after I relocated to California. I have now had three treatments over a seven months period and am impressed with the professional knowledge of Dr. Shaban as well as his sincere concern for each patient. His Institute is welcoming, his staff are thoroughly familiar with their tasks, and I especially appreciate their very different personalities that make each visit fun and interesting. I also know that if I were to experience an emergency, I could reach Dr. Shaban quickly and would be in good hands.
Dr. Shaban is an amazing provider of care. He is compassionate and goes above and beyond in his care of his patients. He took amazing care of me and helped me get connected with other providers who helped with my health crisis. I couldn't be more grateful to him and his team for their kindness, support and empathy.
I've seen Dr. Shaban as my gastroenterologist for the last 20 years and have had regular procedures during that time. I have received the best possible medical care during that time. His level of expertise and devotion to his patients are at the highest level and are in my opinion unsurpassed. His facility is excellent. On what are these opinions based? I am a physician myself, and as such I am capable of accurately evaluating the quality of medical care I receive. Not surprisingly, as a physician, I receive many requests for recommendations from friends and family. I have recommended Dr. Shaban without reservation numerous times, including to members of my own family, always with positive feedback. I am aware that multiple other physicians have chosen him as their own gastroenterologist, which is obviously an exceptionally positive indicator. As a physician it is easy to make the right choice, but I am always impressed with how appreciative my non-physician freinds are after a referral to an excellent physician. It is my hope that by taking the time to write this I may assist someone who needs help to find this exceptional gastroenterologist.
What a great doctor with a heart of gold! His dedication and kindness is so evident. Being a patient with a chronic condition for many years, it has been my experience that Dr. Shaban without fail listens and continually goes above and beyond. This past week, he and his staff have again offered me excellent care in a difficult situation, thus helping me to avoid another lengthy hospital stay. It has been my experience that Dr. Shaban is knowledgeable, with a unique ability to listen, and always gives compassionate and wholistic care. Through the years and countless hospital stays, tests, surgeries, etc. Dr. Shaban remains the doctor that I trust most. His ability to tackle each issue that arises instills confidence and trust in me as his patient. I am so blessed to have met Dr. Shaban and have, and will continue to recommend him and his office to anyone in need of excellent G.I. care.
Dr. Shaban is unbelievable! The man is a saint! He has been seeing my daughter for years, and has always been there to offer wonderful and professional care. His compassionate ability to listen and act professionally has kept her coming back to him. Her extremely complicated history has put her in several very difficult and life-threatening situations and Dr. Shaban has repeatedly gone beyond what one might expect to help her. I am so grateful to Dr. Shaban for his skill as a doctor, and his compassion as a fellow human. He truly is a blessing to our family. I have and will continue to recommend Dr. Shaban and his office to anyone in need of comprehensive GI care.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
