List of David R. Gwynn's Reviews
I recently went to Dr. Gwynn for an evaluation of my right eye, due to sudden changes of vision. He took time to examine and discuss the reason for the change in my vision as well as a treatment to correct the change. Dr. Gwynn also discussed a possible treatment for my left eye and quickly got me an appointment with a surgeon who specializes in my condition. I would recommend Dr. Gwynn for his understanding and knowledge, he is efficient and does not rush you through the exam or discussion of treatment. He really cares about restoring one's vision.
I saw Dr. Gwynn at the San Clemente office. My PCP gave me the referral on Friday. I called and received an appointment for the coming Wednesday. Everything went smoothly even though they were busy. I couldn't ask for a more experienced surgeon. The staff was great. Bring your mask. :)
Had cataract surgery on 2018, lost vision in one eye 4 months later . Had a torn retina. Retina doctor tried to fix it twice .l--4 months apart . I see waves out of that eye. I believe this doctor office should've emphasized the risk of detached retina due to my severe nearsightedness. They did not. Even though Dr. Gwynn was a nice doctor. He said he was sorry.
Was referred by my primary doctor.BUT THEY NEVER ANSWER THE PHONE OR RETURN CALLS good luck getting a appointment what a way to run a business.Called Optum-Monarch and gave me a list of other doctors to choose don't waste your time with this incompetent Doctor like I did .Look up Saddleback Vision and read more reviews on this doctor's office .I am so glad they didn't call after I reviewed them. This is a red flag warning.
I usually don’t write a review on doctors. I called on MDs for 30 years , the last 13 selling software to their offices. I don’t not do so if the visit was a particularly bad or really good experience. I understand their business so I’m not talking about wait time or billing errors. I mean something where I feel a medical situation exists. I was annoyed that they started pitching me cataract surgery starting in the waiting room that continued in the exam room before the doctor even saw me. That wouldn’t have made me pull out my iPad. Neither would the situation where they didn’t read my insurance card to see that the doctor wasn’t part of my network. That happens. It was that the doctor came in with his mask down and sat across from me coughing, looking ill. We are still in a pandemic. He pulls his ask up during the exam but coughs all the time he’s doing it. As we part I say “I hope you feel better”. He then goes in to how bad his cold is and how it got in to his lungs. Not good.

My experience with Dr. Gwynn has been less than the exemplary experience that his advertising promotes. After almost one year since the surgery was done to remove a cataract I still can't see clearly and the color vision in eye is very diminished. After numerous tests and seeing various eye specialists Dr. Gwynn is unable to diagnose the cause and cure. After seeking a second opinion from another Ophthalmologist I was told that it was probably too late to have the surgery redone as I could lose my sight in that eye.
I recently had cataract surged by Dr David Gwynn. He is an excellent surgeon who goes in depth to explain what to expect. I am very very pleased with the results of my cataract surgery. I no longer need glasses for even small print. I also want to add that all of the staff and optometrists that I have been in contact with are so informative and nice. From the phone call to make an appointment to the actual surgery and postop, I can't say enough great things about these people. Very down to earth and make you feel special and comfortable the whole time. They are five star and more!!!!
I went to Doctor David Gwynn for cataract surgery, starting with my left eye. He was the worst Doctor EVER!!! I saved a long time to pay out of pocket for the upgraded lens, 5,000 dollars after all the stuff he had me get and pay for. He didn't chose the right lens and didn't compensate for astigmatism. Ugh! and to make matters worse, he started the procedure which only take 5 minutes, stopped half why through to do someone else's eye (or went to lunch) and hour or more later he returns to finish (my eye is taped open with his staff poring water into my eye to keep it moist) he never asked how I was doing and the one time he spoke to me he yelled at me. Needless to say I found another doctor to do my 2nd eye, which I can see 20/20. So long story short, I have to have a 2nd procedure on the 1st eye (PRK) another 1,000 dollars. I told him I wanted my money back but only got 600.00 bucks. He sucks!
I have been a patient of Dr. Gwynn since 2016. I have always had prompt, courteous and professional care. He performed cataract surgeries on both my eyes after which I no longer needed to wear glasses. This past December he detected wet AMD in my right eye and immediately referred me to retina specialist. His prompt action and follow-up has saved the vision in that eye. The entire staff at Saddleback Eye are attentive and friendly; they put meaning to the word "care" for your vision.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
