I had a disappointing experience with Dr Chien Ye Liu at the Los Gatos Neurology department. Overall, he seemed very disinterested in my care, he was either tired of his job, bored of dealing with patients, or maybe just having a bad day. During a short exam, he made his diagnose and essential said the only treatment was to take a prescription for an unrelated drug that may have a side effect to help me. According to him there are no non-prescription treatments like exercise that could help (I did find alternative treatment options for his diagnosis on both JohnsHopkins and MayoClinic sites) Other than that he suggested drinking alcohol would help. In the end, I left his office with the feeling that he was just trying to push medication and he wasn't interested in any possible alternatives.Too late I have done some research on the web for Dr Liu. Somehow he has a high ratings on the sutterhealth site, but when you dig deeper at other sites that may have a less biased reviews you see much lower scores and serious complaints like yelp, healthgrades, and webmd. In the end he hit all the negative doctor stereotypes from television and movies. Not being empathetic, disinteresting in my actual well being, not listening to my concerns, trying to get me to take prescription medication, not willing to offer alternatives, and overall just giving bad advise.I would serious dis-recommend him, and believe there is a deeper problem here. I rarely go to see specialist, and am firmly disappointed with the care I received after I've heard so many people praise the doctors at PAMF in general.I complained to the PAMF review board, and not surprisingly they found no issue with him even after I provided documentation on the multiple issues I had.
Let me tell you about my experience . I went to Dr. Lou for a diagnosis . After what I felt were a few perfunctory test he came up with a diagnosis , but never explained anything to me or tell me what to expect from the medicine he prescribed. Needless to say say I won’t be back to see this doctor again.
I saw this doctor for sudden numbness in my left leg and toes, with pain radiating up from my ankle to my lower leg. I also had issues with my hand numbness during sleep. Tests revealed carpal tunnel in my wrists (which after wearing the recommended braces has not reduced the symptoms). Without a single test on my leg, he diagnosed my foot issues as neuropathy from diabetes—just based on my history. All of my leg symptoms started within a month, my A1c results have been in prediabetic range since diagnosis 2 years ago, and I had scans on record showing lower back disc issues—yet was nothing was further discussed or further tested on any of that. His bed-side manner is seriously lacking. I felt like a test study subject during my consultations, not an actual person with questions, concerns and fears. I don’t need someone to hold my hand, but definitely deserved someone who would investigate all of my symptoms with more interest and consideration. Look elsewhere.
This doctor did not listen or care during the two years I was under his care. He prescribed estrogen patches which put me at risk for stroke because he didn't listen when I told him that I get migraine aura. He kept referring to my "headaches," despite my symptoms being strictly eye and dizziness related, without headache. He was condescending and dismissed my input about my own condition, because, as the arrogant mug in his office says: "please don't confuse your Google search with my medical degree." He leaves this out in plain sight for patients to view. I also honestly believe that I would have been treated better if I were male because he often dismissed my condition as just being upset or emotional over life events. This was totally unacceptable. I did not get a correct diagnosis or start healing until I finally left PAMF and went to Stanford neurology.
I recommend avoiding this doctor. He put my son on seizure medicine, then told him not to take it for 24 hours, and not to sleep more than 4 hours then go in after 24 hours to do brain scan, then take his seizure medicine after his scan. My son followed his steps. He was over his bathroom sink when he took the seizure (Kappra) med, right after he took his seizure med he went into seizure and he fell down like a tree trunk hitting his head hard on a tile floor in the bathroom blocking the door. During his seizure on the floor he was hitting his head and his whole body on the tile floor My son had major head concussion. After so many months, he is still dealing with his head concussion along side of his seizure. After we switched from doctor, the new doctor switched him from Kappra to another seizure med which is working for my son. I don't recommend this doctor to anyone. The doctor failed to warn my son that he could fall, he should take the med on the bed to protect from falling.
Dr. Liu is a very egotistical and uncaring Doctor, not qualified to be part of PAMF. He misdiagnosed my condition and pushed medications that were not necessary for me. His insistence to push unnecessary medications were capitalized by sending me a very condescending and arrogant message which resulted in me immediately changing doctors. Do not see this doctor!
If symptoms can't be connected to something he's familiar with, it seems he's the kind of doctor who quits listening. He'll explain himself well ('It's not A or B or C because X, Y Z'), but isn't into sleuthing.
My husband went to Dr. Liu for 3 years because he had tremors and was drooling. Dr. Liu misdiagnosed him as being depressed since he had retired and treated him with anti-depressants. We kept going back and he continued to misdiagnose him. I was pretty sure my husband had Parkinson's Disease. Long story short, another doctor suggested he try the meds for PD and his tremors stopped. When we returned for the next visit Dr. Liu spent 20 minutes defending himself as to why he didn't think it was PD. I said, all I want to know is where do we go from here. His answer was I have another patient coming in and I don't have time to discuss it now. We'll talk about it during his next visit. Needless to say we didn't go back to him.Years later I got my husband's medical records and Dr. Liu had the nerve to put in his notes, wife seems to have an agenda. I sure as hell did. My husband had PD and wasn't being treated for it!
I have been seeing Dr. Liu since I was diagnosed with MS 8 yrs ago. He listens and explains things well.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
