Visited Dr Shih for a root canal. Not there by choice but Dr Shih was extremely efficient, thorough and pleasant. He took time to review the X-ray (even spotting things that my regular dentist didn't) and explained the procedure clearly. I was even able to keep my new crown! Him and his team are extremely efficient and get you in and out of the door in less than an hour. Pain medication (not the most fun part) was also applied thoroughly, painlessly and quickly. He used a plastic funnel to avoid water getting into my mouth during the operation. I couldn't recommend Dr Shih more.

I had a repeat root canal on a molar a few months ago. I had been in a lot of pain leading up to the repeat root canal and was extremely scared. Dr. Shih took the time to listen to my concerns and calmly & efficiently explained the course of treatment. He is extremely competent and stands behind the work he does. The tooth in question had to be extracted later due to a bone infection, but in the meantime, Dr. Shih did everything he could to make sure I was as comfortable as possible. He also took the time to address my concerns, kindly and patiently. His style of treatment is not agressive; he consistently adviced against having the tooth removed unless we have exhausted all other treatment options. No nonsense, straight to the point and extremely efficient- highly recommended. There was a billing issue with the front desk. We had paid some amount which according to them we hadn't... One phone call fixed it. Scheduling is easy!

At age 65..& 9 month's I just had my first root canal. I definitely wasn't looking forward to it. I will never eat carmel corn..or any popcorn again! After reading Dr. Shih's bio. I felt more at ease. The procedure was virtually a breeze in his more than capable hands. I highly recommend him and his very efficient, awesome staff!!

No joke, dr shih fixed the abscess in my lower molar with oral surgery the same day, same hour we first met. I was taken in by a super nice front office person and got an X-ray right away by the assistant. About 20 minutes after stepping into the office, dr shih came in to discuss what he saw and my options. He reviewed the choices to address the progressive infection and we decided to go in and fix it through the gums instead of a root canal. "Want to do this now?" " Yes" I've never had oral surgery before so gave a quick shout to the family that I'm doing this (in case of emergencies) and tried to get over the adrenaline shakes while the assistant pulls one side of my cheek to expose the gums below the infected tooth. I felt like an F1 car at a pit stop. Dr shih numbed, cut, clean, sewed up the inflamed area within 45 minutes!! In total about 1hr and 10 minutes including paper work, aftercare instructions, and payment. If you want no nonsense, "please just make it stop hurting" this is the guy to see.

Doctor Shih is the best specialist in Bay Area, he saved my tooth, definitely recommend this place. I needed to redo my root canal. Satisfied!

He listens carefully, and explains everything thoroughly, before, and after the treatment. I have been his customer for many years, and I travel a bit to receive his services, and it is so well worth it! TLDR: Questionable and misleading billing practices (even for in-network), well trained staff in passing the buck/deflecting questions, worst dental treatment experience Went for a root canal and was told Delta dental is in-network. Paid the 10% portion of treatment estimate in advance of surgery. During surgery: I'm in pain and the dentist starts off with asking where I work and makes a request for finding a secretarial job for his spouse in my company! Mention that I don't have any insights for that role type and new to company etc, but continues insisting (I'm still in pain), and then asks me to reach out in case I become aware of any low skilled jobs in tech industry. 10 days later: the root canal treated tooth is cracked majorly; had to find a new dentist for extracting it completely. Essentially root canal treatment was a waste Billing horror: Though Im in-network, start getting misleading bills sent to home that insurance paid only a portion and as per the contract I signed on the day of surgery, I'm liable for remaining amount. The bill conveniently listed only the amount that had been submitted to Insurance without mentioning the "Accepted fee/Maximum Contract Allowance"! Call to dentist office: after 4 months of misleading bills stating inflated unpaid amounts (6 times the correct amount) + interest applied (along with threat of sending it to collections), I make a call and this is the explanations I received on reason behind incorrect amounts 1. The first person: Yes, agreed you are in-network but we charge flat rates so pay up the original listed amounts. (When challenged) I will transfer you to billing/account department 2. Account receivable person: You know how many patients we see (apparently trying to say that errors happen). Many of the patients we see are out-network (apparently trying to say that we incorrectly treated as out-network). Our computer system was bad, I did not generate the incorrect bill. We always tell people to ignore bills sent home as insurance may not have paid their part and give us a call (trying every way available to deflect, mislead and put blame on others) If you already visited (or plan to visit in future) then check your EOB from insurance and compare against the dentist bills. Wish there was an easy way to file complaints with relevant CA dept, dental professional associations

Lets be honest, no one enjoys getting dental work done. Dr. Shih was great, though! He walked me through the whole process as he was working on me, checked in with me multiple times and even called me the following day to check in. I thought that was so nice and shows he really cares about his patients. The procedure was virtually painless. You can tell he takes pride in his work and is a perfectionist. I hope I don't have to go back for more root canals, but If I did, I would feel very comfortable seeing Dr. Shih again. Highly recommend.Thank you, Dr. Shih!

I was referred to Dr. Shih for a molar root canal. After my experience yesterday, I can't imagine ever getting a root canal anywhere else. Dr. Shih exudes competence and expertise. Not only was the entire process completely painless but I was in and out within the hour, including paperwork, payment and consultation. Thank you!

I have unfortunately had to have many root canals - what I realize now after receiving care from Dr Shih is that he is the best I have ever experienced and I trust him completely - he knows what to look for and his work almost painless - he can also fix the mistakes others have made - Dr Shih is knowledgeable, experienced and very very gentle - if you need a root canal Dr Shih is the best in my opinion
