Surat Phonsombat's Online Review Report Card

Dr. Phonsombat was recommended to me by another urologist for prostate cancer surgery. While he came highly recommended, and his knowledge was good, I found his bedside manner was brusque and rushed. I felt like he didn't have the time to answer my questions. A+ for knowledge in his field, C for his bedside manner.

I was so very impressed when I first met Dr Phonsombat. My very pregnant daughter was in incredible pain and in need of emergency surgery. Due to Covid she had no choice but to take on Medi-Cal insurance, which we were assured was perfectly acceptable by everyone we dealt with at the hospital from the emergency room to Dr Phonsombat himself. Dr Phonsombat called personally on the phone to explain what he thought we should do, showing all care and using terms like 'I have a family, this is what I would do if it were any of them'. He was only able perform a temporary surgery due to the pregnancy, but he personally assured me that as long my daughter returned within 30 days of the birth, he would be able to complete his task and it would be fully covered under her insurance. So very reassuring. So very professional. Baby was born, the time came to schedule surgery, daughter called Dr Phonsombat's office and was sent for ~$3800 worth of scans in preparation. Then...BOOM! 'Dr Phonsombat doesn't take Medi-cal...you will have to go somewhere else.' Talk about shocked! And, side-note...because the good Dr isn't doing the surgery, the scans were useless and therefore not covered. We did everything we could. During the process we sent a form to Dr Phonsombat to complete to help her apply for disability support for...you know...a painful foreign body inside her for MUCH longer than it should have been, and he wrote 'This person is not disabled and could have returned to work the next day'. Are you kidding me??? So much for the caring and support shown at the beginning. It took us 2 months to sort out the mess. My daughter had an unfinished surgery in her kidney, and a newborn to look after. And now a totally unnecessary medical debt that she has no way of covering. It makes me sick to my stomach to think of how we were lulled into this. Shame on you, doctor. Shame.

His manner of speaking made me feel like he was talking down to me, like I was a total idiot. I’m not a medical professional, which is why I made an appointment with him and he seemed to forget that. He wouldn’t really let me get a word in and when I finally did he almost sounded exasperated as if he was wasting his time.

Very responsive, caring and knowledgeable. Great doctor/patient communication.

We had a great experience with Dr. P in the office. He had a great patient manner for my husband and I (we saw him for male infertility issues). Sometimes his office didn't put lab orders in on time but it was minor.

He is a jerk; doesn't care to find out why you have certain symptoms!! Gives up on you!! Don't recommend him at all!!! Don't waist your time with this idiot!!!
