List of Theodore Chu's Reviews
Although I appreciated Dr. Chu fitting me in on shorter notice because of my worsening eczema flare-ups, I ultimately left feeling sorely disappointed and even more frustrated than I did before I came here. The visit was underwhelming, strange, and exorbitantly charged for the services rendered. My husband and I sat there while Dr. Chu probed and prodded, and pondered whether my eczema was because of scabies. His energy was questionable and curt, and that would've been fine if it weren't for how uncertain he conveyed everything. At the end, we weren't able to walk away with a confident diagnosis, and he ended up prescribing some corticosteroid meds. I checked in with him if it was safe to take because of my pregnancy, and he confirmed that it was. When I arrived at the pharmacy to pick those up, the pharmacist took a second look and concernedly asked if I was sure I wanted to take this on account of the side effects that it may have produced during my pregnancy. I decided against it and to ride out my symptoms. The visit ended up being a complete waste of time and energy, and although I ended up with a more reasonable co-pay thanks to my insurance adjustments, the original charge ended up being $482.00. For a bizarre experience.
I have been seeing Dr. Chu for many years. He is a consummate professional who really knows about allergy and asthma. He listens, takes his time with patients and ALWAYS has a solution. If I need to be seen quickly, I can always get in to his practice or in touch with him-he used TeleMed to help me just two weeks ago. He cares and is the best allergy and asthma doctor around. His staff are professional and kind. I would give him 10 stars if I could!
I have battled Asthma for a lifetime. It got progressively worse after having my daughter. Dr. Chu has been life changing for me because I am no longer coughing all the time and I am healthier with my overall breathing/ sleeping. He is professional, kind, patient, very knowledgeable, and always takes time to help me . He has reached out to me way past office hours and I really appreciate Dr. Chu . I would recommend Dr. Chu for all ages of patients. He is a five Star asthma and allergy specialist. Thank you Dr. Chu!
This doctor office is fraud. Only for allergy test and 30 minutes consultation they charged insurance company $1074 and after insurance discount my payment is $718. Ridiculous charges by office. Please see attached picture for billing. Staff is very rude. I would give them negative ratings. Please stay away going to Dr. Chu's office.
Dr. Theodore Chu is a very patient. nice doctor, he totally controlled my asthma.
Dr. Chu was recommended by a friend who was also a patient of Dr. Chu. He is the best Allergy and Asthma doctor who has cared for me since I first started contending with Allergies and Asthma many years ago; Furthermore, Dr. Chu helped me to manage and control, by educating me on the does and donâ??t, a unique form of Asthma that other allergist had missed or misdiagnose. I had a few close emergency office visits were Dr. Chu spent an extensive amount of time with me making sure that I was okay. Every single time that I had an emergency office visit, he personally called me the following day to make sure that I was okay. I give Dr. Chu TEN Stars out of FIVE. He is extremely knowledgeable in his field and he is a wonderful Doctor. I have moved out of the Bay Area and I often find myself talking about his quality of care with friends whose children were also his patients. We all have nothing but praises for the care he has given us and our families. I am happy to report that I am in good health and only contend with Asthma once or twice a year if that.
My family and I have been seeing Dr Chu for many years, his professionalism and willingness to listen to what is going on is great. I does not matter of the time of day, he will get you in to to be seen very quickly. He is always current with new medication and willing to take the time to find out what works best with each family member. He has a great staff, very personal and pleasant. I have also seen other Drs in his office and the all have the same depth of experience and willingness to listen.
In addition to allergy care, Dr. Chu is an amazing diagnostician.
I came to Dr Chu as a self-paying patient to get a second (sixth) opinion on my asthma treatment, after seeing ~5 doctors. He has spend nearly an hour with me and has told me about a new treatment strategy which none of my previous MDs have mentioned to me. I have started the treatment (under my regular coverage) and it has brought my asthma under control. Dr Chu was very attentive, caring, and did not suffer from attention deficit disorder, like many other doctors (and much more "expensive") do. He has charged me a base rate for the visit which to me seemed almost like charity. From what I know, Dr Chu also voluntarily conducts pollen counts as a service to the Bay Area asthma sufferers.
I was send to DR. Chu by another dr to check if I have allergy. I didn't have any symptoms and just simple talk would be enough. He decided to check me anyway. I said that I not think I have allergy, and I don't have insurance to do checking just "in case". Dr promised me a special deal "saying it just would be a couple of hundred". I trusted him. Then nurse said it will take about 1,5 h, but I was needed to pick up my child- I wasn't ready for this test. Before I left, I reschedule my visit and ask that they will not charge me twice per visit ( which was about $300), when I come back. They said, no, they will not charge next visit, just test. Next day I proceed the test, then doctor said I need to come back to do another skin test. I did. Result -I do not have allergy, as I thought. I said to the doctor Chu, " I told you I don't have an allergy, because I don't have any symptoms! Why we even started this tests, when I don't have an insurance? " Doctor again promised me just couple of hundred to charge. On the end- I got bill for 3 visits( they did charge me the day I left) and $2500. I called billing department and lady was so rude and almost yelled at me that doctor not authorized to charge less and she doesn't believe me. I end up paying full amount of charge. He just wanted to get money from insurance or patients providing tests that is not necessary! I am very disappointed in him !

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
