I called the number I had for Dr. Martin’s office and, after waiting on hold, was kindly informed by a staff member that I needed to contact a different number for that location. I did so and waited on hold again for a significant time before pressing 3 for a callback. When I received the callback, I explained that I did not have my insurance card on hand, as I assumed they would have my file from Dr. Martin’s practice. I requested to schedule an appointment regardless, intending to provide insurance details later, as I did not want to endure another long hold time. The representative I spoke with was unhelpful and dismissive, stating that no appointment could be made without my insurance information. This seemed unreasonable to me—surely, appointments can be scheduled for cash-paying patients or those who can provide details later. When I expressed frustration about avoiding another long hold and indicated I would seek care elsewhere, the representative seemed indifferent and abruptly ended the call. This was the Balboa Location. I called another dermatologist Dr. Sheyhan got a live receptionist and scheduled an appointment as a new patient.
