List of Valerie C. Altavas's Reviews
I would have selected no stars if it were an option. Experience was horrible with office staff, especially the office manager. Not one bit concerned to determine what the problem or if there was a problem. Terrible attitude and phone etiquette and when that was pointed out she simple stated that perhaps patient and Dr. Altavas' office isn't compatible and should look for another physician.
The best Dr. I EVER had! I was very sad when she moved to California. Haven't found a Dr. In New York that compares to her.
If ur in need of immediate attention we’ll this is not the place for you. When I got assigned to her I called to make an appointment and the staff told me that they will take my insurance information but will call Call me in a week because it takes that long to verify insurance. That is ridiculous I have called many other doctors before in the past and it takes about 5 minutes to verify while I am on hold. They never called me after the week to schedule me an appointment when I called to make an appointment they told me that office policy if you are not a Pass patient there within the past 5 years they will not accept you. All this waiting I did for nothing… I do not recommend this office…
Dr. Altavas definitely cares, or at least she did with me. She sent me for routine screening that probably saved my life due to finding cancer. She followed all my care with specialists, and always followed up with me as to how things are going. I definitely recommend her. Very caring doctor.
Worst experience I've ever had with a medical team/office. I kept getting the run around with the admins at the front. My first appointment was rescheduled literally the last minute. I was never seen by a doctor and after requesting a female doctor they scheduled me with a male doctor. For telehealth appointments I signed in 5 minutes before my appointment at 12pm like I was asked and at 12:15pm ended up leaving because I was kept in the waiting room with no word from anyone. I left multiple chat messages to let the doctor know I was waiting but was never seen😠 I do NOT recommend this place.
Terrible doctor, thanks to her my father’s health declined significantly.
Dr. Altavas is very knowledgeable and friendly. In terms of skill, she is one of the best doctors at Paradise Valley Hospital. I'm hoping that her office will accept card payments soon. I was caught off guard by the cash only policy. I won't reduce my rating because of this - I don't know if she's the one who's in control of the payment system or someone else is making the cash only decision.
I just had my first appointment with Dr. Altavas. She and her staff are very thorough in examining patients - they are focused on finding out if your ailments are physiological or psychological and will refer you to an appropriate specialist for further care. Dr. Altavas was professional. I just wish that her office would accept credit cards but I believe that it's out of her control.
The staff here is pretty good at what they do. Most times the wait is long, that's normal in some Dr offices. There's TV and magazines in the lobby. Read up and learn some facts on medical illnesses... They take walk ins as needed. Mainly for the elder Care. Insurance is also somewhat a hassle as they didn't accept certain types of insurance. Call and check.
Dr. Val Atavas is wonderful. She is compassionate, intelligent and professional. I had issues with my mother that involved elder financial abuse, hoarding, mental illness, dementia, and uncontrolled hypertension that led to a series of strokes. Dr. Altavas was able to adjust medications reducing the possibility of continued strokes, referred my mother for further studies with on of San Diego's best neurologist, Roberto Gratianne. I would refer both Dr. Altavas and Dr. Gratianne to everyone!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
