Dr. Kanter performed what they considered a high risk surgery to level L-3/4 of my lumbar spine. 2 years ago with a different surgeon a previous lumbar surgery resulting in 2 additional surgeries from complications. Dr. Kanter spent the time and clearly explained the risks involved to me. After my own research learning of Dr. Kanter's education and experience, I felt both comfortable and privileged for him to agree to perform my surgery. After only a week from the performed spinal fusion surgery, I have complete strength and use of my right leg again and I feel as my recovery is already happening quite quickly. I can not express how grateful I am to have Dr. Kanter as my surgeon and I would highly recommend his skillfulness and abilities to others.

After only a week from the performed spinal fusion surgery, I have complete strength and use of my right leg again and I feel as my recovery is already happening quite quickly. I can not express how grateful I am to have Dr. Kanter as my surgeon and I would highly recommend his skillfulness and abilities to others.

I have suffered with back pain which resulted leg pain and numbness for over a year. My MRI showed severe deterioration of my L4-L5 resulting in the need for fusion surgery. I consulted with 4 different surgeons ( 1 which wouldn’t take my case, 2 which wanted to do very invasive surgery with rods and screws) and Dr. Kanter. From the very beginning he was confident his minimally invasive lateral fusion would give me relief. He was so right! From my pre-op visit thru all post-op visits I have been so well cared for. I was in a lot of pain in the recovery room and Dr. Kanter was right there at my side making sure I received the best treatment possible. He assured me what I was feeling was perfectly normal but instructed the nurse to make sure I received her undevided attention until my pain subsided. I have never even seen my surgeon in recovery let alone have him beside me making sure I was cared for. I WALKED out of the hospital 24 hours later and have had such an amazing recovery. Yes I had pain but that was to be expected for the first few weeks. I am 6 months post-op and am so happy I had Dr. Kanter and his staff care for me. Every follow-up appointment has been met with positivity and every question is always answered. I have never felt rushed or dismissed. Dr. Kanter looks me straight in the eye, explains everything and always makes me feel like he truly cares about my recovery. His PA’s are great as well. They take their time, go over xrays and make sure i have all my questions answered. I have had a few different surgeries but this one was by far the best experience.

Dr. Kantor performed spinal tumor surgery on me after an ER admission. His continued diligence and thoroughness to detail is something I have hardly seen approached in the US medical delivery system. Now, almost five years later he agreed willingly and with enthusiasm and effort to re-examine new MRI’s taken at another hospital facility to give me a third opinion on additional surgery.. Dr, Kanter and his team of Amy, Gia, and himself.went way above any level or standard in his effort to support me with additional medical efforts even though I am no longer an active patient ( I live 700 miles away from Pittsburgh). I never knew of or ever met Dr. Kanter until that ER visit. I never thought I would ever say this phrase, but it is literally true: Dr. Kanter, Amy, and Gia saves my life not only once, but twice. I can not overstate the praise and trust I have in Dr. Kanter. I would easily trust him with my life without another even seeking another option. I can't recommend Dr. Kanter to anyone. I had degenerated disks in my back. Dr. Kanter performed a laminectomy. We discussed doing a spinal fusion and he said he would not do it now. I was still in pain after the surgery. Sixteen months later the pain was so intense, I went to another surgeon who said that he could not see any difference in the before and after MRIs. In fact he said he could not see that Kanter did anything. He also said it was one of the worst disks he had seen on the first MRI. Very unhappy that I had to go in for surgery that soon. Kanter is very arrogant and not patient friendly. I have considered filing a malpractice suit against him. I did have the other surgeon perform the fusion and I am a new person now.
