My dad was here and needed a colonoscopy for some unfortunate symptoms. Staff and doctors were all very friendly and the facilities seem safe and clean.
The billing department just stealing money from the costumer if you call them they will tell you let me review it and get to you back to explain, but no one explain to you where your money gone so they're thief that's all I have to say!
In any service field, you have bad staff and extraordinary staff that represents the essence of your company. After spend 33 days in this hospital recently, I got to see what it's like to have a staff that truly loves what they do. I know there were some few bad apples that were on power trips or forgot the purpose of their job is take care of people which includes the people advocating for them. But in general, I got to see a loving staff who truly wanted to address the patient needs. From the moment you walk in from Patty and the crew at the front desk and security with their lovely personality and smile you couldn't be sad or tired because energy is so contagious in a good way of course. The ccu staff was so kind and compassionate at tending to their patients needs. Dylan showed grace, patience and compassion when times got tough. He was such a blessing to my friend and I he was a god sent truly. The rest of the ccu staff and rapid team were so knowledgeable and compassionate I always felt at peace when they were in charge. It helped they were so kind and you can see in their eyes and hear it in their voices that they truly cared for the well being of people they were taking care of. Thank you for always bringing your positivity to make him smile and laugh in a painful journey. The 5th floor minus a few staff the rest were rockstars from the janitors, clean up crew, pcA, nurses, charge nurses, RT to radiology technician were all so flexible, understanding and kind. I am thankful for their help to help me advocate for my friend and allow him to heal enough to come home. He would not have been able to do this journey without you and without you letting me be by his side. Thank you for helping me fulfill my word to help him go home. You were all blessings to him and truly I am so grateful to meet each and every one of you. I am eternally grateful for the time I got to share with you and all the hello, greetings, smiles, hugs, encouragement and words of support. There are so many of you to thank. So the list below thank you from the bottom of my heart. If it wasn't COVID rules :) I would have baked my famous cookies hope you enjoyed the chocolates and star cookies. I appreciate you. Thank you.
Took my mom here to the ER for severe abdominal pain due to kidney stones. And from what the first doctor had told us, it was a 6 millimeter stone so it was larger than your average size (Very painful). First doctor she had seen was great. He gave her meds to help with the pain until it passed through her system and said if she needed a higher dose to contact him and he would be able to help. She was fine through the rest of the day and then unfortunately the next morning she called me and said she thinks the meds aren't working anymore and was in severe pain again to where she could barely move, let alone get into the car to go to the ER yet again. So, long story short we had her double her meds just to be able to take her back to the ER again just so we could get in touch with any doctor. The man that took her info entering the ER was rude and couldn't have cared less. Then after getting into the ER the second doctor she saw basically wouldn't prescribe her anything else for the pain because she hadn't yet finished her last dose even though that dose wasn't working anymore. He could have prescribed it but decided not to even though he knew she was going to be in a lot of pain. We made a few calls back to try to get ahold of the first doctor she had seen who seemed more able and willing to help her with no luck and got basically treated like trash on the phone by a woman named Nicki. She was insinuating that we were trying to abuse our prescription prescribed to my mom but really we were just calling on behalf of her because she was in so much pain already and was not able to make any calls.

This review is just based on how heartless the ER people are towards anyone with a health related issue who need help. I get that there are rules in place for people who abuse the system but it's just sad that those who are actually in need of help are given this kind of treatment and makes me lose trust in the health care system completely. I'm just so sad that this is how things are done.

It was no thanks to anyone in ER here that my mom finally got the meds that she needed to make it through this without writhing in pain for days... it was lucky that we were able to be seen at an urgent care somewhere else and get the care and help she deserved.

I hope I never have to come here for anything and will continue to stay healthy on my own and try to avoid any health scares. My family and I don't usually have to come to the doctor much as we are normally healthy on our own so really makes me mad and sad that this is how they are. Really disappointed!!
I understand patient care is tough during a pandemic but being human and understanding a patient and her pain tolerance should be basic and consistent. The ER here at Hoag is horrible when it comes to caring for the patient and making them feel at ease. This ER is interested in band aid solution approaches and seem to have forgotten basic medicinal practices and prescribing the correct medication. Don't be expected to be treated well here as the staff in general seems beat down and exhausted from working through the pandemic. I sympathize with them on that part but some way somehow but it was just bad. When they don't want to talk to you, they throw out the excuse of violating HIPPA. Stick with your PCP and make Hoag your absolute last resort.
I go to Hoag to get my blood drawn periodically for tests my doctor orders. I hope I never have to go back to to the labs like Quest.
Those poor people that work there... over worked and underpaid. The waiting rooms are jammed and the people drawing the blood are beginners. So it's a painful process as they search for a vein.
Hoag, on the other hand, doesn't over schedule so it's not over loaded. Every person I've dealt with at this Hoag has been polite and knowledgeable.
As an added plus the folks drawing the blood are real pros so it's not a painful experience.

Oh, almost forgot, Quest actually lost one of my urine samples. Then they tried to say I never gave them one. What? One thing I didn't forget was giving the urine sample. It's not something I do every day.
I am from Colorado but was in Irvine for work when I started experiencing extreme left back and stomach pains. I went to the ER at Hoag as it was the closest and can honestly say it was the best 'emergency room experience' I've ever had. From the poor guy who has to sit in the atrium to check you in, to the admitting girl gathering insurance information, to the nurse who attended to me during my stay, to the nice man who had to wheel me outside to another location for a scan, to the CT scan technician, to the doctor who had to take care of me...EVERY single person on this staff were just absolutely amazing. Caring, kind, attentive, funny. I was there for several hours but was never left to just hang out wondering what was going on. People checked in on me often, assessing my level of pain, explaining next steps, etc. I never felt as if I was forgotten or that my issue wasn't being taken seriously. I felt that they honestly cared about me as not just a 'patient', but as a person. And all this in the midst of COVID craziness!!! So, THANKYOU to each and every one of you for all you do! You were WONDERFUL! (Oh...and props to the cleaning staff, as well! I don't think I saw any of you but I saw your work! The bathroom, the waiting area, the hallways and the room I were in looked great!!! )
In 2008 i was diagnosed as a Type 1 diabetic and they saved me. In 2013 i got the flu and went into diabetic ketoacidosis and saved me. In 2014 my Mom got H1N1 and basically came in on and ambulance half dead. They induced a coma for 11 days and they saved her life. I came in last night with my 8 year old in the midst of a pandemic and we waited for 10 minutes and took care of my son like he was one of their own kids. Excellent front desk, excellent Med Techs, excellent nurses (one even warmed up a blanket for my cold son) and excellent ER Docs.

This hospital is a hidden gem.
I've been to HOAG twice before this and had okay experiences, I woke up today with a Urinary Tract infection and called HOAG first thing. Not only could the front desk girls not give me very much info about appointment times but they were very short and rude. I'm already in pain from my UTI and in distress because I know COVID is going to make my visit a lot harder. I'm sure the front desk girls are stressed from COVID too, but that's no reason to be rude with people who just need a little empathy. Needless to say I switched to Memorial Care who's front desk was very kind and understanding.

HOAG please do better. No one wants to be snapped at while they're peeing blood and on the verge of tears from pain.
This is the first of 2 reviews I will do...16105 Cancer Center is where
I'm writing about. I was very nervous to start Chemo/ Radition
The staff is wonderful, from the front desk all way through.
Glad I choose this location
It might seem strange to actually have enjoyed my stay in a hospital. I went to the Hoag Emergency room on 6/3 around 6pm for acute Appendicitis. I was only in the waiting area for about 5 mins before being brought back. They hooked me up to an IV and drew my blood right away. Within about an hour, I was admitted into the hospital and brought up to the 5th floor. The night nurse Soo was attentive. She made sure I settled in comfortably for the night. My schedule for the Appendectomy was not yet out. She checked frequently and provided me updates through the night. The day nurse Susan was excellent. She spent all the time I needed to help put my mind at ease with the Appendectomy. She is also very attentive and made sure all my needs were met. The doctors also came to visit me before the surgery to make sure all my questions were answered. After the surgery, food was brought up to me right away since I haven't had anything to eat for an entire day. I was discharged few hours after the Appendectomy. Overall, the hospital and its attentive nursing staff makes this a first rate hospital.
I am disgusted with Hoag Irvine. By the time I got my husband to the ER he was passing out from pain. I understood not being able to go in with him but I spent 6 hours outside the hospital with no communication. He walked out on his own. I found out he NEVER saw a doctor! Just a PAC which is UNACCEPTABLE! She NEVER did a physical exam. Just ordered tests. His heart rate was dropping from pain meds yet she just sent him home. He told me he was shivering so bad and asked for a blanket three times but nobody came, By the way the ER was not busy at all. Shame on Hoag. Before they use COVID as an excuse I was told there were ZERO cases of Covid there. RIDICULOUS!
I truly wish yelp offered zero stars because that is what I would give to Hoag Irvine. Are they still magnet? And if they are I wonder how. The system must be corrupt if they are still magnet. Every time I've gone we are always treated with disrespect. For this reason we no longer choose to go to Hoag and will never step foot in there again. We were there yesterday and due to Covid everything is a little bit confusing; there are many signs that are not clear and not directed in the way to which the public is walking into the hospital. When we got to what we thought was the front door was a nurse opened the door and I told her we were there to see a doctor and she said this was the wrong door. I then told her oh I'm sorry the arrows pointed toward this door and she said well if you you actually read our signs you would know this isn't the the correct way. First of all I did read the signs which again are unclear and confusing but most importantly she should not be talking to anybody this way it was demeaning. A clear direction would've been better and it doesn't matter that Covid makes things stressful they make it stressful for my job as well but I don't treat people like crap because I'm stressed out
I've been to this hospital many times and I have to say I've always had excellent care there is an ER doctor by the name of Tyler who I've seen on two occasions who is so kind and amazing. Today I had to come in because I had a gnarly asthma attack and I posted this picture because the doctor in the gray scrubs literally danced a happy dance telling me I was Covid negative. His first name is Brian I didn't catch his last name and the two nurses standing next to him I think their names are Jeremy and Rory Were so amazing. Jeremy put the IV in me got blood out of me and I didn't even know that's how awesome he is. The entire staff are freaking heroes. I hope someone from Rh sees this because these three gentlemen right there treated me with such respect enthusiasm and professionalism. Thank you so much. Oh and the guy who gave me my breathing treatment was also excellent I did not catch his name. Thank you
I am appalled at Hoag's billing practices. I went to Hoag's Irvine ER room for shortness of breath, tightness of chest, and a dry cough along with a mild grade fever. All known symptoms of COVID 19. They ran a bunch of tests and sent me on my way home to rest. A month later I get a bill for over $800 for copayments and coinsurance. Come to find out, they ran a bunch of tests on me for a heart attack? I called my insurance and they said all Hoag had to is correctly code my insurance bill with the correct codes associated with COVID 19 and they would take care of the copays/coninsurance. Fast forward to today and Hoag said because I did not recently travel I don't qualify for COVID 19 billing. WTF, we clearly see this virus transfers via community spread. To top it off, my PCP who is a Hoag doctor believes that I had it (this visit took place before widespread testing). HOAG ONLY WANTS YOUR MONEY. Proves that hospitals use unscrupulous billing practices even during a GLOBAL PANDEMIC.
Wow this hospital ER not very good medicine. And you can tell by the people reviews and score. My son went in and they pretty much did nothing. He went in with a mask on so they never thought maybe we should look under the mask at all the infection on his lips mouth and nose. But that was a minor issue. Went in for neurological issue. Of course I told the front what I could but since Covid19 I could go back and talk with the doctor. They said he needs iron. Wow know shit. I could have told you that. Very poor medicine. Very sad. Took him back this evening. Told them there is something wrong and to find out what is going on. More to come.
The director of Patient Relations, Keven Weindt, was the least compassionate person regarding the waiving of my deductable, $85.00. The issue was that I was at the hospital only a few weeks earlier for the same reason kidney stone. Bc of their failure to suggest my severe pain might be a kidney stone trying to pass I found myself back there again. I did have even worse pain. However, had I known what to expect, I would have stayed home, less than a mile away. I was there again only bc I was scared, blind sighted by what was happening to me. A little sharing of info w/patient would have calmed me, in my own home. The stone passed bf I got tot he hospital, which by then I was so anxious, a pain of sorts still existed. While in their care, pain faded away. The worst was over. Their docs, medical staff, labs, were paid by my insurance. Why would I pay for a visit I could have avoided.
Now they'll send their stock response this comment however, no changes will be made.
5 stars for support staff though.
Amazing service . Very clean . Very helpful and informative . Lovely place . I would go here for sure
I took myself and my 6 year old here and were treated very unfair. We were in a car accident 24 hours prior. They took my sons vitals and felt his stomach. Then i was told that they were not worried about him. Tywn the took my vitals and i got an xray of my neck. But ny head, neck, shoulders were also hurting. I had surgery 9 days prior so i showed my nurse he saud it hurt cause it was time for stitches to come out. And sent us home. TODAY I go see the surgeon who does an xray to find that the rods in my finger had moved down. This er did nothing to help me or my child. They were very wrong for this. Now on my way to take my child to another er he still complaining of pain. THANKS HOAG FOR THE GREAT CARE
First time visit to this hospital. Got a release without any proper treatment , medicines, prescription etc. The ailment still remains after the visit but we keep receiving bills after bills. Bed sheet was dirty which got changed on complaint. Doctor was not even able to understand the root cause of the problem.
so far we have already paid around $2500 and today we have received a new bill of more $1280. Patient is tired, unsatisfied , leaving back to their own country for proper treatment. This is the worst experience we ever had with any hospital. God knows how many more bills are lining up in queue which we will receive in another few days.
