List of Stephen B. Prepas's Reviews
Our experience with Dr. Prepas' new location is almost identical to that of the last reviewer (Aimee). Dr Prepas has relocated his practice to UCI. If you are visiting the new location for the first time (coming from the Newport location) be aware that since UCI is considered a hospital facility your insurance may not cover your visit. This happened to us and we went from paying approximately $110 for a standard children's eye exam to $377 (which includes a facility fee). Dr Prepas is great but we were not made aware of the change and it's quite a bit more.

Dr. Prepas is an excellent Dr. I have no complaints when it comes to him. My daughter has been his patient since she was 3 and he did strabismus surgery on her when she was 4. No problems. However, he recently closed his private practice, and is now in cahoots with UCI medical center. I took my daughter in for her yearly checkup. Basically a routine eye exam. This service usually costs me $75 out of pocket. I got my bill today and they want $760.65 for an eye exam! Dr is in network but the facility is not. Stupidly, I didn’t realize I would be charged hospital fees and provider fees separately, for an eye exam. Outrageous. Unfortunately, I will have to find a new Dr because these fees are ridiculous. Very disappointed.
Like the other reviews mentioned, this place will charge a $200 new patient fee regardless of how good your insurance coverage is. Double check your insurance coverage and know your EXACT visit cost before coming here. The lady receptionist that works here provides inaccurate and very vague information about visit cost even when I specifically asked her prior to seeing the doctor about my insurance coverage & total billing. I did not realize this until after the visit - but the office sent me a hefty bill, which was all out-of-pocket costs for just a new patient office visit for a preventative vision screening.

Doctor is okay, but cost of service is very high. Just go somewhere else.

Doctor is okay, but cost of service is very high, and front office is super unhelpful. Just go somewhere else.I learned my lesson and hope that other people will be able to read this before coming here to avoid making the same mistake as us.

Be cautious, Dr. Prepas charges a $200 new patient fee regardless of insurance, and most insurance companies (I have the best PPO insurance available) will not pay this new patient fee...so you are in the hole $200 just for a visit...definitely not worth it for a child to see this doctor...unfortunate and the office will not do anything to rectify....don't know how he can stay in business like this.....
Dr Prepas has been my kids' Opthamplogist for 10+ years. He is experienced, knowledgeable and thorough. He is patient and good with small children, highly recommended.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
