Eileen Lo's Online Review Report Card

Our family has been seeing Dr. Lo for quite a few years with our now 3rd daughter. She got braces to help close the space between her teeth. Dr. Lo and all staff have been accommodating and understanding throughout the process. Even when she was frustrated they were patient through the process. Overall, it was a great experience and I highly recommend Shine Orthodontics to others to come and get 5 star service.

I 100% agree with the review below. I regret taking my kids to Dr. Lo. She made my daughter feel extremely self-conscious and guilty when a bracket comes out or the wire is loose. My advice to you is: BACK OFF. You have no right to parent my child. If you have concerns, put your big lady pants on and address your grievances directly with the parent. It's not appropriate to make any child feel responsible for a loos bracket! You need help or training in that area. Lots of kids, especially teenagers, are struggling with other issues in their lives. The last thing I need is for you is to make my children feel guilty. I am not biased. I spoke to another mom/ patient, who agreed that there is a clear pattern of disrespect towards our kids. You are made to feel responsible for any arising issue. I have enough issues to deal with than to worry about a loose bracket. May I respectfully remind you that most of us pay thousands of dollars for your services? Please be respectful and gentle with our children. Everything seems rosy and wonderful when they sell you the package, but things have gone downhill since our initial sign up. Punctuality is a ZERO. I took time off my work and drove from downtown to be on time. Despite my efforts to respect my appointment time, I spent more than 45 minutes in my car. This happened TWICE in the last two months. Considering all this, I am floored with the audacity of your reproachful behaviour. Your staff is no better. My children communicated that some of your assistants have communicated displeasure at a bracket being loose. AGAIN, TALK TO US DIRECTLY! We're strong parents- we can take it. I just hope you can heed this feedback and change your ways. I regret recommending your office to friends. If you're reading this, do yourself a favour and invest your hard-earned dollars somewhere else.

There is no physical way this person is the third best Orthodontist in Calgary. There's just too many issues with her practice. First, her office hours are erratic AT BEST and do not match what is posted on the door or on the website pretty much ever. There's also no emergency contact listed or provided. Her examination area also has the appearance of being what I'm calling "Spartan Sterile Chic" and barely in good repair with tape holding things in place visible from nearly every vantage. It's obvious the office has spent more in the administration areas than where there work is actually done. That's just the beginning though. Her website lists products and services she refuses to provide. When challenged on her reasoning behind it, she provides false information that is not within her medical expertise to provide. Go ahead and ask why SureSmile is listed on her website and she might give you the same answer that an Orthodontist, not a radiologist or oncologist, feels the radiation risk harms her patients. Assuming for a moment that was even true, why in creation would you list it on your website if you were not professionally comfortable providing it to your patients? Any other professional advertising services or products they don't provide would be up against potential false advertising claims, so why should this office be different? Regardless of the patient safety assumption above, it's a categorically false claim and any medical professional should know better than stating nonsensical misinformation to potential patients! If Dr. Lo were a radiologist or oncologist, or employed one, and actually held qualifications to speak about radiation concerns, she'd know 4 bitewing x-rays taken on d-speed film provides radiation in the amount of 0.038-0.05 mSv (this drops as low as 0.02 mSv for digital). For those of you out there getting mammograms, you'd need nearly 10 times as many bitewings to equal the radiation of 1 mammogram. Even if you needed 50 times as many scans, you would still not hit the annual ambient radiation exposure of 3.0 mSv most people encounter from natural sources! Compound the above with her unwillingness to explain the rationale for her proposed treatment plans, combined with her combative personality when dealing with reluctant or uncertain patients, her lack of empathy towards those patients' needs, inconsistent cost quotes and treatment goals, and overall poor customer service, it honestly surprises me this practice remains licensed at all. The only saving grace is the staff ASIDE from Dr. Lo who are fantastically friendly and try to be as helpful as they can. Even then, they very much appear to be hamstrung in their ability to help you by the one calling the shots. Honestly, go ANYWHERE else. See an actual professional.

The journey was amazing. I cannot stop smiling. I love the bond between the staff and the patients. It made the journey much easier and much more fun. I could not have asked for a better smile.

The reception was exceptional. The process was nice. Staff were kind and caring. I profoundly recommend this orthodontic clinic.

The front office staff have always been very friendly and accommodating. Dr. Lo is always professional, supportive and have a true passion for getting you the perfect smile.

Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Dr. Lo is great with kids and would recommend her to anyone. The before and after on our son's teeth is absolutely amazing.
