The line item says, "Office otpt new 45 min." I was in and out of her office in less than 30 minutes and that includes my wait in the waiting room. I have lipoma on the back of my neck. My primary care physician informed me of that and referred Dr. Wakily. I went to go see her and she told me how much. Covid happened and not prepared to spend any amount of money on mostly a cosmetic procedure. I received a wonderful bill in the mail for an unearned 45 minutes of the doctor's time. My share, including my copay is $163.59. I phoned her office and the nice people there threatened to send me to collections if I didn't pay. Besides attorneys, what other businesses could operate like this?

I had a lipoma on the back of my neck. My primary physician pointed it out and informed me that it wasn't something to worry about unless it caused me discomfort. It looked weird and would hate if it kept growing, so I asked for a referral for a surgeon who would remove it. I met with Dr. Wakily for less than 15 minutes. I thought I was doing so to obtain a price. She gave me a price for the procedure, with and without using my insurance. Then the Corona started and I decided to put off the procedure because who knew what could happen. I wasn't sure I'd have a job in the near future. 3 months later, I received a bill for $118.62. Dr. Wakily's office charged my insurance $330. The statement had this line item, Office outpt new 45 min - $330. I was in and out of her office, including the wait, in less than 30 minutes. I had paid $44.97 for the office visit. I think my insurance company paid $166.41. I called their office to question the amount. I spoke to two different people, including the office manager. They wouldn't waive the charge. They told me they'd send me to collections if I didn't pay. Seems like such a racket. It seems like they could charge me just about any amount and if I don't pay, I get sent to collections and my credit is screwed. I'd write to avoid this place but they're all the same.
