Please dont believe the reviews you see on yelp. Do your research on OBs. Dr. Akerman is a nice and funny. But honestly hes all about business. Every time i had my check up he was always running around trying to get patients out. He didnt really care. I went through depression and i told him and hes like well thats life. Hes not a woman and doesnt know what it feels like to go through pregnancy. Yeah hes a dr but physically hes never been a woman and doesnt know what pregnancy is like. It honestly just seemed like he didnt care or maybe he takes too many patients and he cant handle it. I ended up having a emergency csection and if you do your research hes always doing csections when you dont need too. I personally think its bc of business and of course the insurance money.  I wouldnt recommend this dr. The staff is nice and debbie is incredible!!!

Dr. Akerman is amazing. He is intelligent and kind. He is an amazing physician and I’m so lucky to have him as a doctor!

Let me start by saying Dr Akerman, Debbie , the other doctor, NP and midwife are awesome. Dr Akerman just makes you feel well taken care of and like youve known him forever and can just trust him delivering your baby or with a surgery. The staff however well let me start by saying I had my baby End of July I went in for a follow up a week after and told them I wanted to get my tubes tied and was sure dr Akerman said okay lets submit a pre cert for your procedure and my scheduler will call you when its done. Go back to another follow up they tell me same thing and I signed already to go through this must have been two weeks after having my baby. Okay well time passes and were at a 6 weeks after and again I go in they let me know okay well call you to schedule. Time passes I never hear. I call them and finally get a call back scheduler Letty tells me the reason she hasnt called me is my number is wrong on chart hmmm I updated my number when I checked in last few time since front office has a sign in and one question is has your number or address changed I marked yes with my new number okay whatever its been 8 weeks or more and I no longer have patience so she throws a date at me and Im like okay yes I want this done. I didnt realize the date she threw at me I had something to do so I call back and shes like well I can reschedule but its a $ 250 or 200 dollar fee WTF rt Im like seriously thats more then my copay for surgery itself. Whatever kept day because I wasnt going to just throw my money at them for moving dates like it was already a month off so I dont get what the big deal was. By this time I think my pre cert for procedure was all good well I have it done which she even told me wrong date because when I called back she was like oh youre having it on Friday I got called by surgery center well of and it was Thursday ... I call scheduler and they told me oh yes we must have got confused usually he does these Friday at hospital. Omg okay get procedure done after 12 weeks after having baby .... staff at la veta surgery center were nice no complaints there everything went well. But now I got a bill that no one in their office seems to be able to appeal... Ive been on phone with blue cross for hours trying to fix this mess. They told me no pre cert was ever submitted and it needed to be. Even billing office called me to call blue cross myself. So again dr akerman is the best doctor but the staff and all this I have encountered is a damn headache. Also I got a no show fee I use to get reminder calls for appts my number still must not be updated in that office Im sure.

Vicki is an incredible midwife with Dr. Akermans practice. I first met her in February 2020 and she delivered my baby at St. Josephs hospital in October 2020. She encouraged me throughout my pregnancy and gave excellent advice and resources to support my desire to have an unmedicated birth using hypnobirthing techniques. Id had a difficult birth experience with my first child and I was afraid to go through it all again. Vicki was so supportive at every visit and she assured me that my plan for a birth without medical interventions was absolutely possible. Her positive energy during the labor and delivery assured me that I was doing exactly what I needed to do. She provided topnotch postpartum care and even helped me with some breastfeeding issues I was having in the first couple of weeks. I felt so empowered by this birth and I am forever deeply grateful for Vickis support of my positive experience.

I have been a patient of Dr. Akerman for over 10 years. To this day I cannot say enough great things about him. I am currently recovering from a hysterectomy done by him on Nov 5th. My recovery is going great as the surgeon Gods have Bless Dr. Akerman with the ability to perform flawless surgeries. This is my 4th surgery performed by him. 10 years ago I had a myomectomy, then 2 c sections, and now the hysterectomy. I am blessed to have my children because of Dr. Akerman. He was able to save my uterus after my myomectomy and helped my husband and I conceive with fertility meds. From day one his bedside manner, knowledge , and experience are the things I share with others when referring them. After meeting him All is agreed he is the BEST OBGYN there is around and Im lucky to call him my doctor.

I was referred to Dr. Akerman by my former Gyno He had retired and was referring his patients to Dr. Akerman  I knew that I would be in good hands. My daughter in law  had already been to Dr. Akerman as well I was pretty pleased by him back then. Fast forward it was now time to have my yearly visit at the time I called to make an appointment Dr. Akerman wasnt available, but I was given a choice to see another one of his associates. I made my appt. The young ladies at the front were very polite and welcoming. The office was clean as I usually know what to look for considering I myself have been in the medical field for the past 30 years.  I look for cleanliness, knowledge and friendliness.At any rate I was seen by Vicki a mid wife that is part of the staff. She was very thorough and gave me so much information and had great bed side manners.  I left very satisfied with the whole staff.This is why I am giving this office a 5 star rating.I will refer my family and friends here.Keep up the great work!

Ackerman almost killed me in 2014. I went in at 36 weeks and told them I believed I had a bladder infection. They tested me and said no news is good news. Never got a call so I assumed I was wrong. At 37 weeks I went in with horrible back pain to find out they never tested my urine and had a very bad kidney infection which caused my kidney to stop functioning. It was the worst pain of my life! So much so that they kept drugging me without my plan to do so. I had to have a emergency surgery that sent me into labor. Not once did I get an apology just tons of medical bills for being in the hospital for over two weeks. My baby couldnt breastfeed because she was so drugged and everything was extremely painful which he did not care at all about. Dont deliver on Sunday because he doesnt work Sunday. My second delivery was so much better with a different doctor. Please be safe and dont pick him.

The office staff is very friendly and professional. Debbie NP and Dr Akerman very caring and patient.  I highly recommend this office.

Just do not go here. The office staff is not helpful and rude. The patient portal program they use is out dated therefore useless. The actual office is a mess and under construction. You have to pay for parking and the parking is located across the street. I had one visit for a consultation while I was pregnant and I am getting the “consultation,” bloodwork, and ultrasound billed separately including separate co pays for the same one 10 minute visit. The visit was so unpleasant that I never went back and decided to find another doctor.

Complete lack of compassion by this doc and his staff after I had a miscarriage following an IVF.  Also, very concerned about going back since he had his license restricted by the CA Medical Board.
