Acuity Eye Group - Palm Desert's Online Review Report Card

The staff was efficient, courteous and friendly. They seemed to be understaffed, as there was no one at the desk upstairs when I went to select my new glasses. The virtual exam by the doctors was well done, thorough and impressive. Although their offices need some refurbishing and upgrades, overall I would recommend their services.

Dr Chang is awesome. But you have to decide if bad service and appointment changes all of the time are worth the wait. In the last 4 years my appointment has been changed EVERYTIME. If if. Or the dr not coming in they try to cancel as they overbook him.Today they cancel and I’m on hold for 31 minutes. That’s just BAD Service. I love the doc but again the service is poor.

The clinics messaging system is less than desirable. It put you on hold for a long time, like 15-20 minutes. Then it kicks you into the voice message mode. Immediately it tells you that the voice messaging is full and cuts you off. I believe the service provider is giving a very bad rapt for the Acuity Eye Group. This has happened to me more than twice now. Keep calling until a person gets on the phone.  Ty

Run, don't walk away from this group, unless you want to be part of an assembly line.  I've worn glasses for distance for over 40 years and never have I had a problem getting a correct prescription until Acuity.  I saw the Doctor and got my prescription filled there, well I couldn't even see out of my left eye.  So I saw him again, and it was worse, so I saw him a third time and it was a little better but still not right.  The previous glasses I had were better seeing out of my left eye then this pair.  The gal in the dispensary said she was going to make me another appointment with a different doctor, great! No!  I went to my appointment to see Dr. Mao yesterday and was told the previous doctor had closed out my prescription and I would have to start over, paying out of pocket.  I asked to see Dr. Mao to explain that all three of my prescriptions were wrong, and even though I was her 3pm appointment I was told by the snotty receptionist that if I didn't pay $55.00 up front Dr Mao wouldn't even talk to me.  Again, I was her next appointment.  So now I am stuck with a pair of glasses that I have to take off to waLk as I can't see the ground evenly.  DO NOT USE THIS GROUP!  THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY AND NOT THEIR PATIENTS.

I just left the Palm Desert Acuity facility. I had an appointment for my son and had the worst experience there. Not only did we have to wait 3 hours after our appointment time but Dr. Kweku Grant was condescending and arrogant. I have never been treated the way that he treated me. I will never go back and definitely will get a second opinion from another doctor. Bad experience! Do not go to him!

Several years ago when I was referred to this group, I went in because an Optometrist stated that it looked like I had the start of Glaucoma. I saw Dr. Chang, (An Ophthalmologist) first, a couple of times. He noted that indeed, I had Glaucoma but it could be controlled with eye drops. First, the drops that were ordered were so expensive that I could not afford them. His office assistant had ordered the wrong medication. Glad I couldn't get it. (He also asked at the first visit, if I used YELP{ and I said I did. He would be grateful for a post. Glad I waited to do it.) He then ordered the right prescription but he turned me over to Dr. Joel Solano, an ophthalmologist. Both doctors were very nice and kind. I saw Dr. Solana, who ordered an additional prescription for me, a couple of times and the next thing I knew, I was seeing Dr. Quach, an optometrist. Again a nice man. Pleasant. He tested me for new glasses. I saw him a few times because I was told that he is a Glaucoma specialist...which seemed strange since he is not an MD. But I went anyway. My prescriptions were being filled through Dr. Solano. Then the prescriptions went awry. They come through Express Scripts and I get them on a 3 months basis. That saves the insurance and the pharmacy money to send them like that. The office couldn't seem to get the order placed correctly because they kept sending it to a different address than they had used in the past. There was no need to use the other address and no one seemed to know what the correct prescription company address was. Don't they have that information posted somewhere in their office?? Fast forward. I see Dr. Quach a few times and then I am moved on to another person...this one is not a doctor but a nice technician. She takes pictures of my eyes and sends those pictures to some other doctor that I find out isn't even in that office but is in an office about 135 miles to the west in LA County.  I am told that I not only have Glaucoma and the startings of cataracts that Dr. Quach had found, but now I have the start of Macular Degeneration. So I go back in a month and more pictures. This is now 2022 and this all started sometime back in 2017, I believe.  So I tell the tech that I should have my prescription refilled...she said the doctor....135 miles away will look at my pictures and order the prescription. Well, instead of filing it correctly for a 3 month supply...I am getting 1 small bottle every 13 days. I have to go online and contact Express Scripts to fill that item...one bottle every 13 days. How very foolish and wasteful this is. I don't know this doctor...but the conditions that I have are "medical" conditions...not just a need for glasses or contacts...but serious medical treatment by a doctor who can order the prescriptions properly and monitor my eyesight better. I have filed a complaint with my insurance. I have complained to the EyeMed insurance that covers optometry. I have complained to Desert Oasis Healthcare. I will likely have to get a referral from my regular doctor to see an Ophthalmologist at that place. It seems to be the only eye clinic our insurance covers.In the past, I wrote two letters to Dr. Chang about the office and my other concerns.  No response. I am aware that they are overloaded with patients...but still.Side note: When they did my husband's prescription for eyeglasses...they made the lens incorrect, twice. It took 3 tries before he got the correct lens and they aren't all that great! Not a happy camper!!

Dr. Fish is great. Coordinator is terrible! Lacking an organized work ethic. It is Saturday and I can not get eye drops from the pharmacy, all because the coordinator (who I will not name but you all might know who she is) mixed up the eye drops refills and they were not authorized. So I am needing to put those eye drops 4 times a day, and now I will miss out on about 3 days until Monday, all because she didn’t do her job. This isn’t the first time she does this. I let it slide the last surgery, but again! Just unprofessional and careless. Don’t need anymore surgeries but if I did, won’t go back....but if you want to go through this mess, by all means this is the place for you.

I was scheduled for cataract surgery - 2 days before I get a call cancelling it because the Dr. Murphy has an emergency. Two days later my insurance carrier informs me the surgery has been denied because the doctor has failed to submit the required clinical paper work. They contacted the doctors office and left information and received no response. I made numerous calls trying to contact the doctor only to be transferred to voice mail. Never received a return call. I finally made an appointment with the doctor to get this resolved. During the conversation he stated, "I just work here." Then he had the audacity to bill my insurance for an office appointment. To this date my insurance has not received any update nor have I received a call. This is the the worst follow up and handling of treatment by a medical professional and organization I have ever experienced.

I have been lucky enough to have Dr. Mao as my primary optometrist for the past couple years. I knew there was something special about the way she conducts her work the very first visit I had with her, when she was very diligent with getting my vision dialed in for my spectacles. By golly, when those glasses came in, I could finally see again after decades of trying. I cant even tell you how many places and other doctors must have been prescribing me the wrong glasses! At that time, I got my eyes dilated and she found a previously undetected medical condition. It was in it's early stages so I am lucky her attention to detail was able to pick it up and save my vision! Well that was many moons ago for this old fart, and since then I have been getting very good results with my treatment at Acuity Eye Group. Be warned, sometimes the wait can be long at this office. I see long waits at more and more offices nowadays (from the ER to other doctors' to automobile repair shops). It's a real shame, must be the labor shortages they talk about on the local news channel.

Wonderful dr experience on time professional 10 star plus every one was great
