Go to a doctor who shows empathy and kindness. We got neither from the doctor or the staff. We went to the wrong adjacent room as we were misguided at the reception, hence reaching a minute late.We were told that the appointment would need to be rescheduled due to the same.We asked if we could wait around to see if any cancellations occur during the day, however we were told by the staff that the doctor would be on lunch from 12 to 1.45pm. It was almost like they did not want us to see the doctor. We traveled almost 45 minutes away to get to meet the doctor but after this terrible and zero empathy situation, we decided never to go back.

I came to Dr. Shorter for a visit early in pregnancy. I was very anxious, having previously had some bad outcomes. She listened too all of my concerns and addressed all of my anxieties. She was very knowledgeable and her counseling was very detailed, yet it was easy for me to understand! I felt very much cared for. When I had additional questions after the visit, she was very kind and responsive to my inquiries. She made me feel very comfortable.

Dr. Shorter provided the worst care I’ve ever had in my life. I saw her for a pregnancy confirmation where no fetus was seen. I told her I had been spotting and suspected a miscarriage was happening. She wouldn’t see me again for 3 weeks, during which time I miscarried, alone and confused. When I finally saw her again, she told me I miscarried and to just try again and left the room quickly. It was devastating. She offered zero tests to find the cause of miscarriage, zero counseling, and zero referrals to specialists and therapists. Despite telling her I had extra long cycles, she failed to diagnose that I had PCOS. I subsequently went to another doctor who diagnosed it immediately and found many other issues. She took up our appointment times teaching students to use the ultrasound rather than attending to me. If you have a normal pregnancy you might have no issues. But she does not provide any personalized care or emotional support for something as sad and common as miscarriage.
