Kay Chang's Online Review Report Card

If I could give zero starts to this provider, I would. After waiting months for an appointment (and filling out the required paperwork before the appointment), taking a day off of work, taking my child out of daycare and driving her an hour to the appointment, we were told we had to sign an agreement allowing the doctor to use pictures of our daughter for any purpose. We refused to sign the portion of the document allowing for unfettered use of photographs of my child and because of that, Dr. Chang WITHHELD CARE FROM MY CHILD. Moreover, staff misrepresented to us what the plain language of the document stated to get us to sign it - after first trying to have us electronically sign off on the document without even reading it. Shame on you folks.

Dr. Chang provided a very clear explanation of my son's problems and was the first doctor able to help us.

We "self-referred" our son to Dr. Chang after a horrible experience at a local ENT clinic. My then-15mo old son experienced 11 ear infections in 8 months, and required ear tubes. (Thank goodness for PPO insurance!)Dr. Chang met with us, listened patiently to our long and tortured history, took his time to explain the recommenation, procedures and other alternatives we may consider, all of the pros and the cons.He is gentle, patient, well-spoken and communicates well. What I liked about him is that he seems to understand that taking the time to explain things thoroughly to the parents is what eases the anxiety for the entire family. To this effect, he took 2 hours of his and his assistant's time to reassure us, to answer every question we had to our satisfaction. At no point we felt rushed, or felt that he wasn't fully engaged to our problems. he made us at ease having to put our 15mo old under general anesthesia for the procedures, etc. putting all the risks in perspective.The procedure went smoothly, no complications.He is very skilled. But what makes him stand out is how he takes the time to explain and answer questions thoroughly. Great doctor!

Very good. Helpful and informative. did not talk down to me and spent time explaining options and procedures until i was confortable. did phone appointments due to distance!

My son,(less than a year old) just received bi-lateral cochlear implants from Dr. Chang. The surgery went great. Dr. Chang was amazing and so was his staff at LPCH. Yes, you may have to wait for an appointment with him but know that you are getting an outstanding physician/surgeon.

Only problem is 3 to 4 month wait to get an appt.

Dr. Chang took out my son's tonsils and adenoids. I noticed that he'd done a study about pain levels following different types of tonsilectomy procedures - and perhaps not coincidentally, my sensitive 4-1/2 year old never needed anything stronger than regular kids' Tylenol (no codeine). In fact, he was happily playing and in great shape the day after surgery. I'd heard that kids are often feeling crummy for a week or so after the surgery, so this seemed quite the miracle, OTOH, I was thinking a week of quiet time wouldn't have been such a bad thing - but yes, I was thrilled with the speedy recovery. Of course YMMV, but Dr. Chang deserves this 5-star review for being a wonderful and skilled surgeon.

In July '08 our 7 week old, premature baby was transported by ambulance from Sacramento to Lucille Packard Hospital and Dr. Kay Chang's care after the Sacramento specialist who had been treating her subglotic hemangioma determined that she required more sophisticated care. Dr. Chang and his team immediately assessed her situation and began treatment. Her condition turned out to be much more complex than originally believed, but over the next few months, Dr. Chang provided extraordinary care with his personal approach to her case. Examples of this include his insistence upon re-testing when initial tests did not lead to a logical diagnosis, and his consistent willingness to take the time necessary to explain any one of a number of treatments, procedures or medications that were administered to our child. Dr. Chang's persistence and ability to collaborate with a diverse group of colleagues, led to the groundbreaking discovery of the treatment that allows her to be a robust, healthy child today. Along the way, he and his team diligently kept our family informed of what was being done and why and answered our many, many questions with patience and in terms that we could, for the most part, understand. After discharge,. Dr. Chang has been accessible to us by phone or email throughout the treatment process and very accommodating with regard to our travel time from Sacramento to Palo Alto. We are forever grateful to Dr. Chang as our daughter now leads a normal, healthy life. Todd and Julie Anna M.

Compared to the other ENT's at LPCH, he has been fabulous. He has partnered with me regarding my son's apnea, as opposed to making things harder on me. I would recommend him.
