I went in to the Stanford Byers Eye Institute to have Dr. Robert T. Chang perform my cataract surgery (that was a big step for me because I'm a Cal Berkeley graduate- LOL). I must add that I previously had a very bad experience with Stanford Emergency-- so I can't say that all Stanford MDs are wonderful-- or even competent. What I can say is that there are not enough stars to give Dr. Chang in this review. He patently answered all of my questions and provided a wonderful experience (I was a little anxious and not the easiest patent). Because of his calm presence, I went into the surgery confident that everything was being well managed by this wonderful doctor, whom I have already recommended to all of my friends.

Dr Chang is a one of a kind doctor. He is not only extremely intelligent and knowledgeable — the top of the field in glaucoma — I was referred to him by another ophthalmologist and actually changed insurance plans so I could see him — but he is also extremely kind, humble and patient. He’ll listen carefully to my concerns, explains thoroughly, and even responds to questions I think of after the appointment that I send him via email. He also is very careful and has scheduled close-together appointments to monitor the condition. My heart feels very much at peace because of his care.

I have seen Dr. Chang at Byers Eye Institute for my eyes for several years. He is an excellent doctor and I have every confidence in him. However, I have been disappointed that almost every time I have an appointment, I end up waiting more than one hour in the waiting room or in the actual exam room. I wish they would take less patients each day.

Dr. Chang was highly recommended by my formal ophthalmologist when she retired. Glad I have him and his entire staff to care for me. He is very knowledgeable, skilled, caring and patient. Had glaucoma/ cataract surgery on both eyes in 2021. Great job! Highly recommend to have Dr. Chang as your ophthalmologist!
