List of Shana Yao's Reviews
A session with Dr. Yao is a very unique experience. Unlike with other uptight doctors, I feel at ease talking to her. Her chatty and lighthearted style makes me feel much more relaxed when discussing medical issues with her. Imagine you are having a conversation with your doctor regarding such sober topics as your disrupted sleeping cycle and high blood sugar while all shes been telling you are funny stories between her interaction with her colleagues in addition to restassure you that none of that is as serious as you thought? Dont get me wrong. She does take you seriously. She listens to you carefully and at the end of the session shed order all sorts of tests she thinks may help her getting to the bottom of your case. Its an interactive process and she takes in your feedback and makes sure she addresses all of your concerns. e.g., I went to see her after had had two episodes of dizziness in the morning without apparent reason. I had my suspicions and wanted to run certain tests. Within half an hour, she had a good understanding of my issues and gave me some suggestions in addition to a bunch of tests she ordered to rule out more serious scenarios. Its a very interactive process and she took into consideration my input along the way. She also ordered colonoscopy given my father recently was diagnosed with colon cancer. I was reluctant to go through with this procedure as its such a painful process plus I feel that Im only in my 40s and I dont need to do this. Reluctantly I went and had a polyp of size 1.5 centimeter removed as the result! The doctor told me itll definitely evolve into colon cancer if left alone. I feel that Dr. Yao could have saved my life!A session with Dr. Yao feels like a chat with a friend who happens to be a doctor and a very good one. I never enjoyed a doctors visit before I met her. I highly recommend her to anyone whos looking for a good family doctor.
Dr. Yao is a good fit if you do not have any major issues, go only for routine checkup, or you like to spend the time talking about various parts of your life with the doctor. She is very friendly and likes to chat up with patients.I have been with her for several years. It was great in the first few years whereas I only went for routine checkups. Things took a drastic turn when I suffered from some health issues and needed desperately her advice and help. Following other doctors advice, I requested a referral to see a Stanford specialist from her. She spent most of the appointment chatting about (her) life and other nonconsequential issues. She did not ask me much in details my symptoms nor lab works. She repeatedly ignored my request for referral. Later I found out that specialist referral costs insurance company more that primary care physicians have to make up by seeing more patients. At the end, I have to turn to a conceige doctor to get the referral needed. I can no longer trust her with my healthcare needs and assign my conceige doctor as my primary care physician.
Dr. Yao is an extraordinary doctor! She is warm, smart, funny and patient. She also has a great sense of humor! Dr. Yao compliments me when I do what it takes to stay healthy or improve my health. She gives great coaching when I need to improve my health but never makes me feel bad when I need to improve. Dr. Yao knows her stuff and is very wise. I just love Dr. Yao!
I have been going to Dr. Yao for about 4 years, and I am so far very satisfied with her service. She is like your older sister with whom you can talk about a breakup over your ex., well I know that is not part of the bedside manner, but there is really nothing that you cannot inquire, nothing you cannot discuss for the fear of being judged. As a doctor, she is sensible and straightforward, in other words, she doesnt get unnecessarily alarmed like those practicing defensive medicine, but she doesnt sugarcoat either. She has this special touch of soothing patients anxiety which I really appreciate. Sometimes I feel like visiting her as my psychologist lol. She is certainly very kind, patient and caring like the other reviewers said.As a GP, there is really not much room for her display her medical skills particularly if the patient is generally healthy. I also have not used her referral of specialist that much, because I do my own specialist research and go straight to those I like without referral. Whenever I think of my annual visit to Dr. Yao, I always have this anticipation that we are going to have a good time together again, as usual.
I really enjoyed my visit with Dr. Yao. Shes very kind and caring, and she took a lot of time to get to know me and my history. She was very patient and explained my lab results to me and answered all of my questions thoroughly. Im very glad to have found her as my primary care physician.
I think Dr. Yao is an extremely caring physician. She really takes the time to listen to your complaints, does thorough exams and blood work. She also connects with you on an emotional and personal level so you feel like you have a doctor that knows you. I feel like I can tell her anything. I think the patient that gave her a low rating had a language barrier with her. Her English is clear and articulate, but she may have just used the wrong form of expression to boost that patience self esteem. I love her! I love doctors who baby you when youre not feeling well.
I do not feel much impressive by Dr. Yao. I was afraid my face would have a scar. She said that you are already a mom, so who cares if you have a scar or not? Im not sure about the logic there... but at least I feel she does not care about her patient much.
I love Dr. Yao too. She is such a sweet lady. Shes like your mom without the nagging. She speaks mandarin Chinese.
She is such an awesome doc. I dont dread my annual checkups because Dr. Yao is so fun to talk to, and she makes me feel super comfortable. And the new medical center is pretty nice, too. The one in Sunnyvale is so out of date, it was kind of depressing to enter.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
