Albin David's Online Review Report Card

I was literally a block away and called them to let them know and was 2 min past my 1pm appointment. Which would have been 3-4 minutes late. I told the first receptionist that answered the phone. She transferred me to another woman that was rude and curt. She told me that I had to arrive 30 minutes before appointment and that she had cancelled my appointment after waiting almost a year for one. I told her why IS'NT this on THE LEGAL paper that I got? She replied, "I don't know". Really unprofessional and out right incompetent for a so-called medical facility. I have NEVER encountered such disregard and out right ridiculous practices from a medical business. I would give 0 star if I could. U will be hearing from my lawyer too.

I attempted to schedule an appointment & got the run around about insurance. When I said I could pay cash for the visit. The lady continued asking more & more questions. I told her I was in pain & needed to see someone as soon as possible she was flippint about my situation & was more concerned about the financial aspect of the process. If necessary I could pay cash for the procedure so repeatedly asking me about insurance showed a lack of professionalism & tact.

2 pm Appt, was not seen till after 3.  Huge disappointment when surgeons are late to your appointment!!!Why make appointments if you can't keep them!?!?!?!?

Dr. Albin may know how to do hernia repair with a mesh. But he may not warn you enough of the risk of chronic pain as a result of damage caused to your body by the mesh. When I contacted Dr. Albin's office in my desperate search for a solution, my call was not returned. Think twice before going to Dr. Albin or anyone for a mesh implant. You may never experience issues but it is also possible that you'll end up like me and wonder what you were thinking when you agreed to the procedure.

Dr. Albin treated my hernia with a mesh implant in the early 2010s. His book had convinced me that a mesh was the way to go and given Dr. Albin's experience, I thought I could not go wrong. Indeed, other medical sources also confirm that hernia recurrence rates with a mesh placed by a skilled surgeon are extremely low. Thus, I flew in for the surgery and everything went as expected. Recovery took a few weeks, and everything was fine for about 4 years. That's when a variety of pains started. Soon, I was in pain on a daily basis. I went to see hernia surgeons in the state where I live and they told me that I had chronic pain syndrome, something that is known to happen when the mesh catches with some nerve or organ. I suffered increasingly for 3 years, and sudden pain bursts in the middle of nights finally convinced me to risk a surgery that few doctors agree to do: mesh removal. The answer to this post will probably be that cases of chronic pain are rare, but in fact, they may be quite common. The allegedly low numbers of chronic pain patients may come from how cases are tracked. When I called Dr. Albin's office to ask what could be done about my chronic pain, I didn't get a call back. Thus, how would doctor offices know how many patients suffer if they don't get back to them? I'm not saying Dr. Albin is a bad doctor. Putting in a mesh is his specialty and I have little doubt that he knows what he is doing. But my recommendation is to think twice before having a mesh implanted. There is a lot of money involved in the mesh business. This makes your homework harder because most medical websites will recommend a mesh for hernia repair. A majority of people do perfectly fine with a mesh implant but those who don't may be in for a lot of pain and potential serious complications that are avoidable. Now that I went through the experience, I know what a mesh can do to the body. Needless to say: never again will I accept to have a mesh implanted anywhere. I just hope I will recover from the problems Dr. Albin's mesh has caused.

I did not come soon enough to thank this Doctor David Albin. He is the best surgeon I had ever experienced. He had saved my life. The sumer of June 1988 had no clue why I am having a sharp pain around my waistline . The type of pain was ( someone cut my waistline and put back. With the x-ray and CT scan I have Gall Bladder issue with pancreatic inflammation. Gall bladder was producing gall stone and blocking the pancreas.After Surgery’s I got major infections. The infections was from Typhoid doormats in the gall stone. With his quick thinking and teamed up with infection specialist got the right antibiotics and took care of the problems!Every time when I see my scar I am thinking of that surgeon who had saved my life.Thanks a million doctor David Albin.

This review is of Dr Albin's intake, insurance verification, and appointment staff - it is not is review of Dr. Albin's work.  Unfortunately, I've discovered that if you have trouble working with the front office staff, those problems will sometimes outweigh the benefits of seeing a specific doctor.Making an appointment with Dr. Albin is more complicated than it is with many other doctors. Because I have a chronic health condition, I frequently see many specialists. There are a number of hoops you need to jump through before scheduling an appointment with Dr. Albin. First, you'll frequently encounter a voicemail message regardless of whether the office is open during normal business hours.  The outgoing message indicates that the office requires 24 hours to get back to you before scheduling an appointment.  It appears that this office requires all of your insurance information and will verify that before even scheduling an appointment for you. I'm very lucky to have amazing PPO coverage that's accepted at any office that takes insurance. I left detailed information on my voicemail message, including my full Insurance member ID number. When I received a call the next day from Dr. Albin's office, I was asked I was told that I did not give complete member ID information. I read the information back directly from the online website. I was told that I was not reading the correct number and that I would need to call my insurance company to verify that I have the correct number. I asked the employee I spoke with to repeat the number back to doublecheck it, but she refused. I offered to provide Dr. Albin's office with the phone number of my insurer, and with the screenshot of my information, which should have allowed the administrators for Dr. Albin to look up all of my information. They refused to do that and insisted that I prove to them that the number I already gave them was correct. If the office staff are refusing to take the time to verify my insurance information upfront, I can only imagine the problems that I would have with them on an ongoing basis failing to process needed paperwork on my behalf. I decided to make an appointment with another specialist. It's unfortunate, because the review here on Yelp made me inclined to work with this doctor. Your results may vary, but buyer beware.

Meh- not for me. Does old fashioned work and not the newer techniques.

This man is a medical magician. Without getting into gory details, I can only say I was a quite a bit of work, but thanks to Dr. Albin's skill and expertise, I was able to drive myself home after the procedure and went to work the next day. Two weeks later everything healed as good as new with no complications whatsoever (and this is after ten years of struggle and several other procedures in outpatient clinics that seemed to help very little). He also went out of his way to do more than originally planned for my procedure and was very kind. Staff members are very helpful and caring, and the facility is spotless. I couldn't have chosen a better surgeon to turn to.
